After setting up the two traps, Lu Fengnian followed the map drawn by the old hunter and slowly walked towards Tiger Leap Gully.

Tiger Leap Gully is located very deep in the mountains and forests, and you are likely to encounter wild beasts on the way there.

With Lu Fengnian's current physique and archery skills, he would be able to hunt down even ferocious beasts like tigers and black bears.

However, he did not come here to hunt these ferocious beasts.

Instead, they wanted to catch foxes because fox pelts are expensive, and foxes are small and easy to smuggle out of the forest.

Therefore, as he made full use of his powerful senses to avoid making any noise or disturbance to the animals hiding in the forest, he made the most of his ability to sense his surroundings.

As dawn broke, Lu Fengnian carefully traversed more than ten miles through the forest and finally arrived at Tiger Leaping Gully.

Along the way, he encountered many wild animals hunting, including a huge tiger.

Tigers are solitary animals, so encountering one is extremely rare.

Moreover, tigers are far more valuable than ordinary foxes.

Even a damaged tiger skin can sell for at least thirty taels.

However, the tiger vanished in a flash, giving Lu Fengnian no chance to fire his arrow.

No wonder it has the name Tiger Leap Gully; there really are tigers in this forest.

What puzzled Lu Fengnian was why tigers didn't live in Tiger Leap Gully, but foxes.

When he entered Tiger Leaping Gully, his question was answered.

Between the two mountains, there was a deep ravine.

One of the mountains, when viewed from a distance, looks like a tiger about to leap.

Lu Fengnian first went to the mountain peak on one side of Tiger Leaping Gully, observed it carefully, and then went down to the bottom of the gully.

He first found a secluded place and temporarily hid everything on his body that took up a little space, except for his bow and knife.

Then, they crept into the valley and began searching for the fox's tracks.

The mountain gully was covered with lush vegetation, so the sunlight couldn't penetrate it at all; it was deep and dark.

If Lu Fengnian hadn't possessed eyesight far exceeding that of ordinary people, he probably wouldn't have been able to find any clues among them.

Tiger Leap Gully stretches for seven or eight miles. Lu Fengnian searched from sunrise to sunset, covering almost the entire gully, and finally found the fox's den on a small earthen slope.

It's a bit of a pity that this is a den of yellow foxes, and a single pelt can only be sold for about one or two taels of silver.

Finding the fox den is only the first step; it's far from time to be happy and relaxed.

Lu Fengnian circled the earthen slope twice and finally discovered that the fox den had a total of four entrances, one large and three small.

After repeatedly comparing the four entrances and their surroundings, he finally chose the second largest entrance.

Foxes are cunning by nature and have keen senses, so Lu Fengnian did not rush to act before he had figured out the situation of this group of foxes.

Instead, they climbed up a large tree not far from the hillside, found a branch where they could half-lie down, and rested there.

Foxes typically emerge around dusk, forage all night, and return to their dens around dawn, spending most of the day sleeping inside.

There was still some time before dusk, so Lu Fengnian ate a few pieces of rice crust with water.

After filling their stomachs, they went to sleep.

After sleeping for about an hour, the sun set and dusk arrived.

Lu Fengnian also woke up at this time, crouching behind the tree canopy, staring intently at the direction of the hillside.

He didn't have to wait long. As the sun completely set, a yellow head quietly peeked out from the largest hole—it was a yellow fox.

The fox peeked out of the hole several times, then withdrew again, before finally emerging.

Turning its head to look around, and after confirming that it was safe, it crawled back into the cave.

A moment later, four foxes emerged from the cave in single file, paused briefly, and disappeared into the woods ahead.

After the foxes had gone far away, Lu Fengnian observed from the tree for about 15 minutes. When he found no movement, he quietly climbed down the tree, found a secluded, safe and dry place, gathered a pile of dry leaves, scattered some mugwort around them, and then crawled into the leaves to sleep and conserve his energy.

His sensory perception is now far beyond that of ordinary people. He can react quickly to the slightest disturbance, which is the source of his confidence to stay overnight in the deep mountains.

Fortunately, the storm passed overnight and all was calm.

With about half an hour left before dawn, Lu Fengnian slowly woke up, took a few deep breaths of fresh air, and cleared his head a bit.

After stretching his body a little, he climbed back up the old tree he had been on before, lay on a branch, and quietly observed the direction of the hillside.

As dawn broke, a rustling sound came from the woods near the old tree.

Soon, four yellow figures appeared on the hillside; they were the four foxes that had gone out hunting the night before.

The four foxes returned to their den, but instead of taking the same route as the previous night, they changed the entrance, observed briefly, and then disappeared one after another.

Lu Fengnian remained perched on the tree, observing for about the time it takes for two incense sticks to burn. When no movement was heard, he quietly climbed down the tree.

They returned to the place where they had hidden the items, retrieved all the tools such as ropes and nets, and went back to the hillside.

I first lay down near the largest opening and listened for a while, but I didn't hear any noise.

Lu Fengnian then took action, finding some large stones to seal the third and fourth largest openings, and using grass vines and leaves to seal the cracks in the stones.

They then went to the second largest cave entrance and began setting up a net not far from it, securing it with stakes and then camouflaging the net with leaves.

Three nets were placed near the second largest opening, forming a fan shape to surround the opening.

After confirming that everything was in order, Lu Fengnian went to the largest cave entrance, laid out dried mugwort and dried cypress leaves, and lit them with a flint and steel. The fire was small but the smoke was plentiful.

He then took off his jacket and fanned it continuously, sending wisps of smoke into the cave.

Before long, rustling sounds came from inside the cave; the fox had been awakened by the smoke.

Soon, Lu Fengnian saw a fox's head cautiously peeking out from the wisps of smoke.

Instead of fleeing in panic, they traced the source of the wisp of smoke, trying to figure out what was going on.

Lu Fengnian guessed that they would react this way, so he drew his short knife and tapped it against the stone at the entrance of the cave with the back of the blade.

A sharp knocking sound rang out, startling the fox that had poked its head out to observe the situation, and it immediately shrank back.

Lu Fengnian put the dagger aside and continued to fan his robe, sending more smoke into the cave.

Whenever a rustling sound approached, he would strike a stone with his dagger to scare the fox away.

If a fox escapes through this hole, it will be quite difficult to catch it by hand.

Moreover, there was a fire at the entrance of the cave, which could easily damage the fur.
