Chapter 27 Careful Planning
Jiang Anhe got angry: "Hmph, Auntie is bullying the child! I'm not playing with Auntie anymore!"
With that, he ran back to the stone table to continue reading the Three Character Classic.
He has already learned half of the characters inside, all of which were taught to him by Jiang Che.
"Jiang Che." Jiang Yun Ning rubbed her stomach, which ached from laughing, "Do you know how to shoot an arrow? You can teach me, I want to go hunting."
She likes to venture into the mountains, where unexpected treasures await.
That's how it's portrayed in novels and TV dramas.
Even if all else fails, learning archery provides an additional means of self-defense.
Jiang Che was still in a daze when he was patted on the back of the head, at which point he suddenly looked up.
"What?" His Adam's apple bobbed twice, and his eyes darted around.
I just spaced out, was it because of Jiang Yun?
Jiang Yun Ning didn't seem to care: "Archery, do you know how?"
Jiang Che nodded: "It should."
These memories are too vague; he has long forgotten the learning process.
Just like literacy and martial arts, they both rely on instinct and bodily memory.
It felt like something was forcibly shoved into my brain.
"Okay, then we'll go to town sometime and buy a bow." Jiang Yun Ning stood up and then noticed that Jiang Che's face was very red, almost red to the roots of his neck.
"What's wrong with you?" she asked, frowning as she leaned closer.
Jiang Che instinctively backed away, saying, "It's okay, it's hot."
Jiang Yun Ning looked up at the somewhat gloomy weather and blinked blankly.
The corn next to the pigsty has grown as thick as a calf, and the tomatoes in the yard are ripe and red.
Jiang Yunning picked a few tomatoes and went into the kitchen.
"Mom, cut up a few tomatoes tonight and sprinkle some white sugar on them."
Anyway, we're not short of money now, so we don't need to worry about this little bit of sugar.
After leaving the courtyard, Jiang Yuning went into the cellar to check on the soap.
The cellar was very cold; even at midday in the height of summer, it felt chilly.
The soap is already semi-solidified; the first batch will definitely be sent out within three days.
"Jiang Che, what do you think? Should we buy an oxcart?" Jiang Yun Ning climbed out, then picked up a tomato and started eating it.
It's not a good idea to always borrow the village head's oxcart.
"Are you worried that someone will be jealous?" Jiang Che wrung out his clothes.
Jiang Yun Ning nodded. He knew Jiang Che was very smart. Often, the two considered problems from very similar perspectives.
Just then, Jiang Laosan walked in and heard it. He waved his hand cheerfully and said, "You heard it? Aren't you going to plant the crops?"
Jiang Yun Ning smiled: "Father, you're right."
In the evening, Jiang Yuntian pushed a handcart and went with Jiang Laosan to the surrounding villages to collect cicada nymphs.
The remaining people waited at home for their fellow villagers to come and deliver the goods.
"Cuihua, weigh this for me quickly, it must weigh six or seven jin, right?"
"Look at mine, my whole family went, and we must have weighed almost ten pounds."
Looking at the chaotic scene, Jiang Yun Ning called out helplessly, "Uncles and aunts, don't worry, let's line up and settle everything here tonight."
After that shout, the courtyard quieted down considerably.
"Yun Ning is becoming more and more proper."
Someone shouted, and the surrounding praise never stopped.
The group had a clear division of labor: Jiang Yuntian and Jiang Laosan weighed the cicada nymphs, while Wang Cuihua and Liu Yuzhi emptied them into the large bamboo basket. Jiang Che kept the accounts, and Jiang Yunning settled the payment.
Soon, everyone in the courtyard dispersed.
Jiang Yuning rubbed his arm as he saw off the last aunt. As he closed the door, he noticed a figure disappear in the corner.
She smiled, shook her head, and didn't seem to care.
The next morning, the Jiang siblings and Jiang Che borrowed the village head's oxcart and went to Baiweixuan.
"Oh, Miss Jiang, you've finally arrived!" The shopkeeper had been waiting impatiently and quickly called the waiter to weigh the items.
"Baiweixuan serves hundreds of tables a day, not counting these walk-in banquets. Miss Jiang, could you please add a little more cicada nymphs?" the manager said with a smile.
Jiang Yunning nodded: "Okay, I'll deliver another batch this afternoon."
It just so happens that I haven't gone to pick up those things at my uncle's house yet.
After the waiter weighed the goods, the shopkeeper paid the money. "This batch weighs 135 catties, which makes a total of 2 taels and 2 mace."
Jiang Yunning nodded.
After deducting costs, we made a net profit of four hundred coins.
This is only the first day.
More and more villagers will believe in this, and more and more people will come to give cicada nymphs as gifts.
"Big brother, hitch up the cart and go to Uncle's house to bring the cicada nymphs over. I'll take Jiang Che to see the oxcart," Jiang Yun Ning called out.
Jiang Yuntian nodded: "Okay."
There are specialized brokers for buying and selling livestock in the town. Jiang Yuning and Jiang Che inquired about several reputable brokers and went inside.
After some negotiation, they acquired the ox and cart together for fifteen taels of silver.
But when it was time to leave, I was troubled again.
With Jiang Yuntian gone, no one will drive the oxcart.
Just as she was thinking of finding someone at the brokerage to help her get to Baiweixuan, Jiang Che picked up a whip.
"Let me do it." He held the rope, gesturing for Jiang Yun Ning to get in the car and sit down.
"Didn't you say you couldn't do it?" Jiang Yun Ning asked with some doubt.
Jiang Che looked at her: "You'll get it after watching your older brother do it twice."
Jiang Yun Ning raised an eyebrow slightly, having to admit that Jiang Che was indeed intelligent; he could remember many things after being told them only once.
Once in the car, Jiang Yunning directed them to the shop where they could buy bows.
She didn't understand these things, so she could only let Jiang Che choose for himself.
The shopkeeper was clever. Seeing that the two had arrived in an oxcart, he guessed that they had some money at home, and immediately smiled and won.
"Sir, what would you like to see?" He smiled and took a few steps back, subtly observing the two of them.
It was quickly clear that Jiang Yun Ning was the one in charge of this young couple.
Jiang Che picked up a bow, and sure enough, without much thought, he assumed a shooting stance.
"Young lady, your husband has excellent taste. This bow is extraordinary; it's our shop's prized possession." Seeing that Jiang Yun Ning didn't understand, the shopkeeper began to flatter her.
Jiang Yun Ning smiled slyly and looked at Jiang Che: "Quickly put down their prized possession, let's go check out other stores."
Jiang Che nodded and let go of her hand without hesitation.
The shopkeeper was stunned. He just wanted a high price, so why didn't he even look at it?
"Oh, oh, oh? Madam." The shopkeeper quickly smiled ingratiatingly. "Don't be in such a hurry to leave. Here's what we'll do: eight hundred coins, and we'll throw in ten arrows."
Jiang Yun Ning shook her head: "Too expensive."
The shopkeeper gritted his teeth: "Name your price."
Jiang Yunning smiled and held out his hand: "Five hundred coins, and give me fifty arrows."
She didn't understand, but she had already inquired about the price.
The shopkeeper's eyes widened: "This won't do! I'll lose money at this price!"
"That's true, we can't let the shopkeeper do business at a loss." She nodded in agreement.
The shopkeeper's smile had just begun to spread when he froze in shock.
"Then let's go look at other places." Jiang Yun Ning grabbed Jiang Che's hand and pulled him forward, afraid that he would not be able to keep up with her pace.
"Hey, hey, hey?" the shopkeeper exclaimed anxiously. "Alright, alright, alright. We'll go with the price you asked for, young lady."
Jiang Yun Ning then released her grip and stopped, raising an eyebrow at Jiang Che with a smug look.
That look seemed to say, "Impressive, right? You cut the price by three hundred coins right off the bat."
Jiang Che had long since lost interest in how much money it cost; all his attention was now focused on the hand that Jiang Yun Ning had just grabbed.
The hand wasn't big, but it was very soft. It was warm and cozy, and it held half of my hand.
