Chapter 21.021. Spells Lesson
"I never imagined you'd be sorted into Slytherin. To be honest, I thought you'd be in the same house as us. Even if you weren't, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff would have been perfect for you. Of course, I'm not saying Slytherin is bad; you should know that some of the people in Slytherin..."
"A bit arrogant," Lynn said, picking up where George or Fred left off.
“Yes,” the other Weasley said. “We’ve only just met you, but you don’t seem like the kind of person who looks down on others.”
Lynn tilted her head and thought for a moment: "Actually, it can't be called arrogance. They're just a little proud and have a different way of making friends."
He smiled at the Weasley brothers: "What's wrong? Are you going to break off our friendship just because I joined Slytherin?"
The twins exchanged a glance, then looked at Lynn together and said loudly, "Of course not! Don't forget, Mom told us to take care of you at school before she left."
Lynn shrugged: "That's why you care so much about which college I'm assigned to. As long as we get along, we can continue to be friends."
"You're right, we need to apologize for what we said earlier," the Weasley brothers said, winking and making faces, without any indication of sincerity in their apology.
They also had classes in the morning, so they didn't chat much. After agreeing to visit Hogwarts Castle together next time, they parted ways there.
Lynn sat down at the Slytherin table, where several older young wizards had already arrived. They greeted Lynn, having already met him at the opening banquet the previous night.
Betty, the prefect, frowned: "You're the first one here of all the new students today. I wonder how many of them will be late for Charms class later. Professor Flitwick may be nice, but he hates students who aren't punctual."
Breakfast was certainly not as lavish as yesterday's dinner, but the oatmeal porridge suited Lynn's taste perfectly.
"They should all know their limits, and they should develop the habit of waking up early in another week or two."
The prefects at Hogwarts weren't babysitters for the young wizards; they weren't obligated to care about every little detail for the new students. Betty grumbled once, but didn't nag any further. Instead, she glanced at the bowl of oatmeal in Lynn's hand and casually said:
"It seems the house-elves at Hogwarts have changed their menu recently; I've never seen this kind of porridge for breakfast before."
As they were talking, Lynn had already finished all the porridge in her bowl.
"Really? Their cooking skills are really good. The taste is almost as good as what I make myself."
Betty rolled her eyes, this was the first time she had ever witnessed Lynn's shamelessness.
The prefect's words soon came true.
In the Charms classroom, Professor Flitwick stood on a high stack of books, his face grim as he tapped the podium repeatedly with his fingertips.
It had been three minutes since class started, and there were still five young wizards who hadn't arrived at the classroom.
The Slytherin and Ravenclaw wizards who had already arrived in the classroom also huddled at their desks like quails, heads down.
Everyone could see that Professor Flitwick was in a very bad mood.
Just as the professor's last bit of patience was about to run out, four Slytherin and one Ravenclaw freshman rushed into the classroom in a panic.
"Professor...we actually timed it correctly, it was those stairs going upstairs, they were playing tricks on us..."
Some of the new students wanted to explain, but Professor Flitwick glared at them irritably.
"Shut up! You've already wasted three minutes of everyone's time. Now get back to your seats immediately. I don't want this to happen again, whether it's in my class or another professor's class!"
The reprimand, without any further punishment, made the five feel as if they had been granted a pardon, and they hurriedly ran to find their seats.
After Professor Flitwick saw that they were all ready, he cleared his throat and began the first lesson of his Charms class.
"The magic of wizards has developed over thousands of years, and now the number of known spells is impossible to count. But no matter how magic develops, it can't escape the two major categories of spells and transfiguration spells."
Before we begin teaching you spells, I must first teach you how to distinguish between spells and transfiguration charms. While this won't affect your spellcasting, it is a fundamental theory that every wizard must know.
"So now, can anyone tell me the difference between the spells and transfiguration spells that you know?"
Almost the instant Professor Flitwick finished speaking, Lynn raised his arm high.
The professor, who was said to have fairy blood, seemed somewhat surprised; he had thought the question would be met with silence among the freshmen.
"Then, Mr. Bellock, you shall answer this question."
Lynn stood up from his seat: "A spell adds a specific attribute to an object or creature, while a transfiguration spell transforms it into something completely different."
Professor Flitwick was quite surprised by Lynn's answer.
"That's very well said, that's the most standard answer. You even read the entire book's excerpt?"
"Yes, Professor." Lynn's face showed no sign of pride, because as far as he knew, there was another young wizard sitting here who had read the entire spellbook even more diligently than him, and that was the Ravenclaw freshman he had met on the train.
He simply didn't raise his hand, nor did he seem inclined to answer the question.
Lynn continued calmly.
"I remember the excerpt also explained that although curses, poison curses, and curses are also types of spells, they are collectively referred to as black spells. This series of books on standard spells does not cover such spells."
"Excellent," Professor Flitwick exclaimed. "You are the first freshman I have ever seen who reads the entire book before class without even taking notes. Slytherin, five points."
[You have received a sincere praise from Charms Professor Felix Flitwick, granting you +1 to General Charms Talent and +1 to General Charms Effect.]
[Your outstanding performance in Charms class has earned Professor Felius Flitwick points for your school: +1 to General Charms Talent and +1 to General Charms Effect.]
The two consecutive system notifications stunned Lynn.
It turns out that it's not just about praising someone; getting extra points in your academy can also enhance your magical talent.
"You may sit down, Mr. Bellock."
It wasn't until Professor Flitwick urged him that Lynn snapped out of his daze and sat back down in his seat.
After the initial shock, he quickly calmed down.
Improving magical talent cannot be so easy, after all, the total limit is only 10. If one praise and one point can be gained, wouldn't he become a magical prodigy in less than a month after the start of school?
As expected, Lynn's guess was correct.
After Professor Flitwick began to formally teach them the Levitation Charm, Lynn once again caught his attention with his outstanding performance and received high praise once more.
However, this time the system did not announce any increase in magical talent.
This proves that the praise and bonus points from each professor are actually one-time rewards, meaning that he can only earn a maximum of two talent points from professors of various courses.
