Chapters 28 and 028. The Attack

Lynn and Cedric both heard the piercing scream.

They exchanged a glance.

"Underground," Lynn said quickly.

Without stopping, the two quickly ran to the place where the sound came from.

There sat a girl in a Slytherin robe, trembling as if she were terrified, her face pale as she stared at the corner of the corridor.

There was a little wizard lying there, quiet, as if he were dead.

Lynn and Cedric were the first two to arrive at the scene. They quickly divided the tasks: Cedric stayed behind to comfort the frightened girl, while Lynn went to the "corpse" to see if it could be saved.

When Lynn saw the face of the person lying on the ground, his pupils suddenly contracted.

He recognized the man; it was his roommate, Hubert McLean, who had pretended to apologize and make up with him just yesterday.

Although he was lying motionless on the ground, he appeared to be alive, with his chest rising and falling and his eyes open.

However, his eyes were lifeless and devoid of any spirit; he looked no different from a dead man.

"What's wrong, Lynn?" Cedric asked anxiously when he saw Lynn standing there in a daze for a long time.

Lynn did not touch Hubert's body without permission. Some curses in the magical world are very evil, and one could easily get into trouble if one is not careful.

"This is not a situation we can resolve; we need to wait for the professors to arrive."

Lynn stepped back to Cedric's side, wanting to ask the Slytherin girl if she knew anything.

But the poor girl still hasn't come to her senses, burying her head in her knees and sobbing softly.

It was getting late, and many young wizards who were on their way to the Great Hall for breakfast were drawn by the scream, including the two Slytherin prefects.

Betty came to Lynn's side.

"What happened to McKlain?"

"I came here because I heard the sound, but I don't know what happened." Lynn shook his head.

More and more young wizards gathered, and soon the first professor arrived.

It's Professor McGonagall.

"Get out of the way! All of you, get out of the way! Anyone with class, get ready to go! Do you want your college to get points deducted?!"

The place was already surrounded by young wizards, and Professor McGonagall had to drive them away first.

When Professor McGonagall squeezed into the room and saw Hubert's appearance, she was stunned. Her face turned pale and she cried out in a trembling voice.

"What are you all standing there for? Hurry up and take him to the school hospital so Mrs. Pomfrey can take a look!"

Raphael, the male prefect, and Judy, the female prefect, immediately took Hubert's arms, one on each side, and helped him toward the school hospital.

Professor McGonagall looked at the group of young wizards who were still standing there and asked with a grim expression.

"Who was the first to discover him?"

All eyes turned to Lynn and Cedric, and Lynn had no choice but to step forward and explain.

"Professor, the first person to find him should be this girl. Cedric and I found him by her voice."

Presumably because a professor was present, the girl came to her senses, but she stammered that she had just come out of the Slytherin common room to go to the Great Hall for breakfast, and then she encountered Hubert lying on the ground here. She was unable to provide any useful information.

The whole thing was so confusing that Professor McGonagall couldn't figure it out either. All she could do now was talk to the group of young wizards who remained.

"Hubert will be fine. I will also investigate this matter thoroughly. Everyone, please disperse now."

Professor McGonagall was the second most prestigious person at Hogwarts after Headmaster Dumbledore, and the young wizards dared not disobey her orders, so they all left the scene.

Lynn and Cedric walked together toward the auditorium.

"That person looks like your roommate?" Cedric asked.

Lynn nodded: "That's right, he looked like he'd been attacked, and he didn't look too good."

Cedric frowned. "You two don't get along?"

"He thinks my background is an insult to Slytherin," Lynn shrugged, making no attempt to hide their conflict.

Cedric didn't have much to say about this. He patted Lynn on the shoulder, sighed, and gave her some advice.

"Then be careful, the professors might want to talk to you again."

Lynn shrugged and said, "You're my alibi. I've been with you all morning."

"I know that if that time really comes, I will testify for you."

The two parted ways in the auditorium and went to their respective college's long table.

By breakfast time, the news of the young wizard being attacked at Hogwarts had spread throughout the entire school.

Many people at the Slytherin table had heard that Lynn was one of the first witnesses, and they all came over to ask him if he knew what had happened, which annoyed Lynn to no end.

I don't even know if it's just psychological, but breakfast doesn't taste as good as it used to.

He casually stuffed a few bites of bread into his mouth, drank a glass of milk to finish the food, and then quickly fled the auditorium.

As he passed the Hufflepuff table, he saw Cedric in the same predicament as him, but given his kind nature, he figured he wouldn't get away so easily.

With no classes in the morning, Lynn went straight back to the Slytherin common room.

It wasn't until he got to the dormitory that he discovered that his two roommates, Mark and Michelle, were still there.

They saw Lynn, and their expressions were clearly unusual.

Lynn squinted and suddenly asked Mark a question.

"Do you know where Hubert went?"

Mark looked a little nervous and stammered his reply.

"He went to the owl shed to borrow money from the owls to buy desserts."

Michelle's acting skills are far superior to Mark's.

"We'll be able to enjoy those delicious desserts this afternoon. I don't know if you've heard of Lynn, but Honey Duke's candies are very famous in the wizarding world..."

They were clearly unaware of the attack on Hubert, but Lynn wasn't in the mood for playing house with them anymore, and he interrupted Michelle.

"Hubert has been attacked by someone and his life is in danger. He's been taken to the school hospital. If you don't believe me, the professor will probably send someone over soon to find out what happened. If you're responsible for this, think about the consequences."

Mark and Michelle stared wide-eyed, stunned by Lynn's words.
