Chapter 44. The Quarrel

The Christmas holidays went by quickly.

Hogwarts has become lively again. After the light snow at Christmas, the weather started to get colder and colder, and in the last two days it has even started to snow heavily.

At lunchtime, in the warm Great Hall, at the Ravenclaw table, Lynn, his two friends, were engaged in a heated debate about spells.

"Green Spark and Red Spark fall under the category of spells, and they are inextricably linked to the Wand Illumination Charm. Therefore, these two spells should be considered branches of the Wand Illumination Charm," Cedric stated confidently.

But Lynn had a different opinion.

"I agree with what you said earlier. These two sparks are indeed spells, even though they are simple, and they are indeed related to the Wand Illumination Charm. However, they cannot be called a branch of the Wand Illumination Charm. They should belong to a category of Summoning Charms under the category of spells."

Cedric frowned. "Summoning Charms? What's the first element that distinguishes summoning charms? The effect or thing produced by a spell already exists; a summoning charm is like a transit point. So where did the green and red sparks originally exist?"

Lynn said seriously, "Nature naturally contains many elements, and countless others can produce sparks. Changing their color is as easy as drinking water for a wizard with magic. The key is that these two sparks have an upward motion after being released, and they are not pure light, but sparks that can explode. This is fundamentally different from the wand's illumination charm."

Cedric still couldn't accept Lynn's theory, and they both turned to look at Ian, who hadn't said a word.

What do you think?

Ian remained as concise and to the point as ever.

"I tend to agree with Lynn's statement."

Cedric was utterly puzzled: "Why?"

"Because I also studied natural sciences."

Cedric didn't understand what he meant, but Lynn retorted.

"What I'm doing isn't exactly natural science. The core of natural science is to follow dialectics when facing all problems. I'm just making a conjecture. In order to verify the conjecture, we still need to conduct experiments."

"There will be opportunities." Ian slowly and methodically cut the steak on his plate with his knife and fork. Judging from his appearance, he had received a lot of education in this area since childhood.

Just as they were discussing, a quarrel suddenly broke out at the Slytherin table.

The attention of the other students was immediately drawn to it.

The two sides arguing were the two Slytherin prefects, Betty, the girls' prefect, and Raphael, the boys' prefect.

They seemed genuinely angry, arguing heatedly until they parted on bad terms.

Cedric asked in a low voice.

"I remember they were a couple, right?"

Lynn knew this, and he nodded: "I heard they started dating in fourth grade, so it's been almost two years now."

Cedric sighed and shook his head. "They seem really angry. They don't give each other any face at all. They started arguing in front of so many people. It's really...sigh."

Ian spoke calmly.

"You want to be a third party in my relationship?"

Cedric panicked and hurriedly waved his hands.

"Don't talk nonsense! I've never had that thought!"

"Then why are you worrying about this?"

Lynn laughed until her stomach hurt; Ian's words were sharp, and Cedric had suffered quite a bit of setbacks.

……

That night, Lynn and his two companions gathered by the Willow Tree near Black Lake under the cover of darkness.

The willow tree, which used to wave its branches and give off a "keep away" vibe, is now as quiet as an ordinary willow tree.

Ian stared blankly at Lynn and Cedric.

"Are you sure you want to come with me?"

Lynn shrugged. "We're already here. Are we just going to go back and wait to be captured by Filch?"

Cedric patted Ian on the shoulder.

"It's okay, Ian. Besides, it would be too lonely for you to spend the night alone in that place. Anyway, it's the weekend tomorrow, and we don't have anything to do."

Seeing their insistence, Ian didn't say anything more and led the way into the secret passage, with Lynn and Cedric following behind him.

"It's really strange. Last time we came here to avoid Ian, but this time we've chosen to follow him."

Cedric remarked with considerable emotion.

"You were even going to bravely and selflessly offer to die back then." Lynn was moved by the scene and recalled the moment when Cedric put on a brave face.

The secret passage was quite long; it took them about half an hour to reach the exit.

This was a dilapidated house. Lynn and his two companions crawled out from the underground storage room and stepped onto the broken wooden planks, making a strange "creaking" sound.

"The fireflies are twinkling."

Cedric used the Wand Illumination Charm to illuminate a space nearby.

They walked out of the storage room, and as they moved, dust floated all around them. Lynn couldn't help but cover his nose with his sleeve.

"You've always been here alone?"

"Or what?"

Ian, on the other hand, seemed quite used to this place; he had clearly been here more than once or twice.

They arrived at the living room of the Screaming Shack. Ian found a clean spot to sit down and quietly waited for the transformation to begin.

Lynn and Cedric were sitting not far from him.

Not long after, Ian suddenly collapsed to the ground, letting out a painful groan.

Werewolves experience extreme pain during their transformation process, even Ian, a special werewolf who can maintain his sanity after transforming.

But the transformation process was not long. With a chilling roar, Ian completely transformed from a human into a werewolf.

This time, Lynn and Cedric didn't run away. Instead, they stood up and observed Ian's changes up close.

"Are you still able to use magic in your current state?"

Lynn asked curiously.

Ian, panting heavily, shook his head.

"I've tried, but the magic in my body seems to be sealed by an invisible force, and I can't get it out."

Lynn suddenly had an idea. He found a thick wooden plank somewhere and decided to start with Cedric.

"Come on, punch this wooden board with all your might."

Cedric was an honest man. When Lynn said he would go all out, he did so. The wooden board was fine, but Cedric was clutching his fist and wincing in pain.

Lynn then punched the wooden board with all his might. The board remained intact, but the sound was clearly many times stronger than Cedric's.

"Your turn."

Lynn held the plank horizontally in front of him and gestured to Ian.

Ian saw through his thoughts and, without holding back, delivered a straight punch to the wooden board.

"Snap!"

The wooden plank snapped in two on the spot, and Lynn was thrown backward by the force, falling to the ground and sliding back several meters.
