Chapter 432 The Mirage Demon Borrows Treasure [Please Subscribe]
Why did the Scaled Frog alien high priest Ukuru ask Zhou Chun for help?
This story begins about six months ago.
It turns out that half a year ago, a powerful third-tier mirage demon appeared in the outer area of Longyuanze.
For some reason, this demon began to prey on the scaled frog sorcerers, specifically hunting and killing them, as well as some ordinary scaled frogs.
Although the mirage demon doesn't have a large appetite, a few scaled frog alien sorcerers are enough to fill them up in one meal.
But even that can't withstand eating it once every three days, or ten times a month!
The Scaled Frog alien sorcerers were originally the guardians and protectors of the tribe.
But now they've become food for monsters.
Such a thing could not help but make the frogs feel uneasy, and it made Ukuru, the high priest of the scaled frog race, both shocked and angry.
But just as High Priest Ukuru was gathering his forces to slay the mirage demon, he discovered that he was unable to break the illusion.
Instead, he unknowingly fell under an illusion and personally killed several of the second-tier sorcerers he had brought with him.
In the end, it seems that the mirage demon was afraid that he would kill all his food reserves, so it let him and the other sorcerers leave, only taking away a few corpses.
After this incident, not only did Ukuru's prestige plummet, but he also became terrified of the mirage demon.
Even if Zhou Chun didn't come to the Scaled Frog Tribe at this time, he still planned to find a way to ask the Zhou family for help.
After listening to Ukuru's tearful accusations, Zhou Chun pondered for a moment before nodding and saying, "I understand. The Scaled Frog Clan is a partner of my Zhou family, and High Priest Ukuru is a good friend of mine. I will do my best to help resolve this matter."
Upon hearing this, Ukuru was overjoyed and hurriedly bowed with the highest courtesy to express his gratitude: "Fellow Daoist Zhou, your kindness is truly admirable. I am deeply grateful. I entrust everything to you, Fellow Daoist Zhou!"
"Fellow Daoist Wukuru, you are too kind. I would like to ask you to tell me about the mirage demon's supernatural powers and location."
Zhou Chun waved his hand and immediately asked Ukuru for details.
The term "mirage demon" is actually a general term, mainly referring to those clam demons, snail demons, and other monsters whose main supernatural power is the illusion of mirages.
Generally speaking, these monsters possess other supernatural abilities in addition to illusions.
In fact, mirages are quite common in Longyuanze, and I've encountered many of the scaled frog alien race before.
However, most mirage demons are only first-tier demon beasts, and very few can grow to the second tier.
A mirage that grows to the third tier is a once-in-a-millennium occurrence, and it is almost impossible for it to appear in the outer area of Dragon Abyss Marsh.
To Zhou Chun's dismay, despite having hundreds of people devoured by the mirage demon, Ukuru still didn't even know what kind of monster the mirage demon was.
All that is known is that every time the mirage appears, a distinctive mist will rise from the surface and the water, and any scaled frog sorcerer who enters it will be unknowingly drawn into an illusion woven by magic.
So, having no other choice, Zhou Chun could only stay in the Scaled Frog alien tribe and wait for the mirage demon to reappear.
After waiting for two days, news came that the mirage demon had reappeared and was eating frogs.
Upon learning the news, Zhou Chun immediately went to the scene with Wukulu.
"This is it. The mirage demon appeared here before, but I don't know where it's gone now!"
Above a body of water near the shore, Ukuru and Zhou Chun stood suspended in mid-air, pointing to the water below and relaying what their people had said.
Zhou Chun listened to his words but didn't say anything more. He simply closed his eyes and used his divine sense to search for any remaining traces in the water.
Upon closer inspection, he indeed discovered a faint aura of a demonic beast.
"Follow me!"
Zhou Chun let out a low shout and immediately locked onto the aura and gave chase.
However, after chasing for only a few dozen miles, Zhou Chun lost his sense of that aura, as if the other party had disappeared there.
He looked around and realized that he had arrived at the edge of a shallow beach covered with reefs.
This place is quite ordinary; it seems that even a first-tier demon beast wouldn't choose to inhabit it, let alone a third-tier demon beast.
"Fellow Daoist Zhou, have we lost track of them?"
Ukuru waited for a long time, but Zhou Chun did not make any other move, so he couldn't help but ask.
Zhou Chun did not answer directly, but looked at him and said, "How about this, Fellow Daoist Wukuru, you go back to the tribe first, and I will search around here again. If I don't find it, we can only wait for it to reappear."
"Very well, then Fellow Daoist Zhou, please take good care of yourself!"
Ukuru glanced at Zhou Chun with surprise, then nodded and left alone.
After Ukuru left, Zhou Chun flew directly to the shore not far away, then concealed his aura and waited patiently.
Although it seemed unlikely, Zhou Chun suspected that the mirage demon might be hiding on this rocky beach.
So he decided to wait and let the mirage demon come out on its own.
After waiting for most of the day, until the moon was high in the sky, a different change finally appeared on the rocky beach.
Suddenly, wisps of mist rose from nowhere and completely blocked off the waters surrounding the rocky beach.
This thin mist was truly bizarre; even Zhou Chun's divine sense could not detect its existence, and he could only see it with his naked eyes.
This indicates that they are not water vapor condensed into mist, but rather illusionary mist formed by magical power.
"What powerful illusionary mist! I wonder if my divine sense will be unaffected by it!"
Zhou Chun stared at the wisps of mist with a flicker in his eyes, lost in thought.
He was always confident in his own divine sense, and even the "God-Slaying Sword" that Murong Luo used at the time only made him lose his senses for a moment.
However, the third-tier mirage demon was no ordinary creature either. Its illusionary power could easily manipulate Ukuru, a third-tier sorcerer, at will, which shows how formidable it was.
It should be noted that Ukuru had made ample preparations at the time, and had brought along those spiritual items for calming the mind and spirit.
Therefore, to be on the safe side, Zhou Chun did not immediately charge out. Instead, he patted the spirit beast pouch at his waist, released some "Blue Moon Butterflies," and then drove them to fly towards the illusory mist area. He also used "Insect Puppet Technique" to possess a certain demon butterfly.
As a result, not long after these demonic butterflies flew into the illusory mist area, Zhou Chun suddenly felt a pain in his consciousness and lost control of the demonic butterflies that possessed him.
"Have we been discovered?"
Zhou Chun rubbed his forehead to ease the pain, then looked at the unchanged illusory mist, and quickly shook his head slightly, saying, "No, it shouldn't have been discovered, but rather eaten!"
He made this judgment because his contractual connection with those "Blue Moon Butterflies" had been completely severed, a situation that only occurs when the contractual partner dies.
It is estimated that the mirage demon discovered that the "Blue Moon Butterfly" was also skilled in illusionary powers, just like itself, and regarded it as a delicious treat.
Zhou Chun carefully recalled the scene he had seen through the "Insect Puppet Technique" but found that apart from the fog, there was nothing noteworthy.
This made him realize that he probably could only find the mirage demon by personally entering the illusory mist.
"It's a pity I didn't bring the Wood Spirit this time, otherwise it would have been even safer."
Zhou Chun secretly regretted it, but for now he could only try to test the strength of that mirage demon.
He raised his hand and patted the storage bag at his waist, taking out a magic talisman and a jade bottle.
Then he poured out an ice-blue pill from the jade bottle and put it in his mouth, and put the magic talisman in his sleeve for later use.
Immediately afterward, protected by the Black Water Tortoise Shield, he flew into the misty area.
Just as Zhou Chun entered the misty area, as if startled by something, the mist suddenly surged violently.
At the same time, Zhou Chun's vision suddenly blurred. The thin mist and rocky beach that he could see with his naked eye disappeared completely, and in turn, a deep and dark underwater cave scene appeared.
When his gaze involuntarily drifted deeper into the cave, it immediately met two lantern-sized, golden vertical pupils.
It was only when he looked that Zhou Chun's heart tightened and his mind became extremely tense!
Because it was an enormous black dragon's head, and the dragon's body behind the head was so long that its tail could not be seen, and its exact length was unknown.
The aura emanating from him made Zhou Chun afraid to even breathe loudly.
In that instant, he felt his own insignificance, as insignificant as an ant facing an elephant!
But this feeling of terror only lasted for a few breaths before he quickly regained his senses.
"No, I've been infected!"
Zhou Chun's expression changed slightly, and he immediately waved his hand, unleashing a golden light blade that slashed towards the black dragon head.
As expected, the golden blade of light easily pierced through the black dragon's head, eventually striking an unknown location.
Even though he could tell that it was an illusion, Zhou Chun could not tell the difference between the illusion and reality by scanning with his divine sense or by looking with his naked eyes.
Even the aura emanating from the black dragon head remained so lifelike, sending shivers down one's spine.
Somewhat skeptical, Zhou Chun swallowed the pill in his mouth and, using the cool aura emanating from it, carefully observed it again, but still found nothing.
"What an amazing illusion technique!"
He exclaimed in shock, realizing that his mission was likely doomed.
He can now see that he is in an illusion, but he cannot see through the illusion and find the true form of the mirage demon.
If we can't even find the opponent's true form, how can we talk about killing them?
However, the mirage seemed to know that he was not someone to be trifled with, and apart from trapping him in an illusion, it did not launch any other attacks on him.
After an unknown amount of time, Zhou Chun suddenly felt the power of the illusion dissipate significantly, and he finally saw a way out.
With a swift movement, he flew off in a certain direction and easily escaped the illusion.
However, the mirage demon was no longer on the rocky beach; only the dissipating illusory mist remained.
Clearly, the mirage demon had already fled the place after trapping Zhou Chun.
"This mirage demon is probably no ordinary creature; it's not just a typical third-tier mirage demon!"
Zhou Chun recalled the lifelike black dragon in the illusion, and a thoughtful look appeared in his eyes.
Generally speaking, the illusions of these mirage beings affect other creatures in two main ways: one is by inducing the beautiful or fearful aspects of other creatures' inner selves through illusions, starting from their own consciousness; the other is by directly conjuring up powerful beings and secret realms that they have witnessed, starting from their own subjective consciousness.
There is no inherent superiority or inferiority between the two; they simply represent two directions of illusion.
The former is more unpredictable and harder to guard against, while the latter is so realistic that it can be mistaken for the real thing.
For example, the black dragon head that Zhou Chun saw earlier, if you say it was fake, then it really was.
However, if the mirage demon were to truly fight Zhou Chun, it would definitely be able to unleash its powerful offensive capabilities.
Moreover, even if Zhou Chun knew it was fake, he couldn't escape from the illusion in time.
Conversely, if the illusion is used to evoke both the beautiful and fearful aspects of Zhou Chun's heart, the illusion will naturally break once Zhou Chun regains consciousness.
However, truly masterful illusions often employ both techniques simultaneously, causing the victim to die without even realizing it.
The lifelike black dragon head that the mirage demon had previously conjured, coupled with the underwater cave environment that was difficult to distinguish from reality, indicated that it must have been to that place before and seen the owner of the black dragon head.
Zhou Chun suspected that the owner of the black dragon head was likely a fifth-order demon king!
That's why he felt that the mirage demon's origins were extraordinary.
After gazing at the water for a long time in contemplation, Zhou Chun returned directly to the Scaled Frog Tribe.
"Fellow Daoist Ukuru, that mirage demon's illusions are quite powerful. I am not confident that I can kill it right now. I need to go back to my family to make some preparations. You should all be patient for a while longer."
Inside the Scaled Frog tribe, Zhou Chun, upon his return, looked at High Priest Ukuru and solemnly stated his plans.
Upon hearing this, High Priest Ukuru sighed and could only agree.
Zhou Chun then returned directly to his family.
After returning to Jingguo, Zhou Chun explained the situation to Zhou Mingde and then went directly to the Su family in Jiangzhou.
As far as Zhou Chun knew, Su Yuzhen's aunt, Su Yunniang, was also a master of illusion, proficient in the art of illusion and bewitching.
Therefore, he wanted to seek advice from Su Yunniang through his Daoist partner Su Yuzhen, to see if he could get her guidance and help.
Upon learning that his companion needed help, Su Yuzhen naturally did not hesitate and immediately took Zhou Chun to the Moon Wheel Sect's mountain gate to pay respects to her aunt, Su Yunniang.
"Ha, so that's what brings you here today, kid. You actually came to visit your aunt with Yuzhen. Turns out you have something to ask of me!"
Inside the cave, after learning Zhou Chun's purpose, Su Yunniang immediately sneered and began to mock him.
This made Zhou Chun feel quite embarrassed.
Although that's definitely not what he meant, the fact does indeed suggest that, and it's hard to deny.
Fortunately, Su Yuzhen knew how to care for others. Seeing this, she immediately stepped forward, grabbed Su Yunniang's arm, and swayed her body, saying coquettishly, "Auntie, what are you saying? My husband and I are usually focused on our cultivation. We, as Daoist partners, don't even see each other often. How could we be deliberately neglecting you? Besides, you just successfully formed your core not long ago, and this is the time when you need to diligently practice your supernatural powers. How could we frequently come and disturb your cultivation?"
Seeing this, Su Yunniang reached out and gently pinched her cheek, saying in an annoyed tone, "You're just always taking his side! It's true what they say, daughters grow up and forget their aunt! Once you have a husband, you forget all about your aunt!"
"No way! I might forget anyone else, but I'd never forget you, Auntie! From childhood to adulthood, you've always been the one who loved me the most!"
Su Yuzhen took the opportunity to move closer to Su Yunniang and hug her like a daughter embracing her mother.
After her witty banter, the embarrassed Zhou Chun finally came up with a reply.
He immediately said respectfully, "Auntie, you are right. I have indeed visited you less often before. In the future, whenever I have free time, I will definitely bring Yuzhen to come and pay my respects to you."
"Then you'd better remember what I said today. I'm waiting to see how you perform."
Su Yunniang glanced at him and said indifferently.
However, they stopped there and didn't really embarrass Zhou Chun any further.
After carefully inquiring about Zhou Chun's needs, she pondered for a moment and then said to Zhou Chun, "Since you've come to me for help, I can't let you leave empty-handed."
"Alright, I have a third-tier high-grade magic artifact called the 'Colorless Illusion Bead.' This treasure can be used to cast illusions to confuse enemies, and it can also release illusion-breaking spiritual light to destroy and interfere with illusions. You can borrow this treasure for now."
As she spoke, she raised her hand and patted the storage bag at her waist, then took out a colorless and transparent magic bead and tossed it to Zhou Chun.
"Thank you so much, Auntie, for lending me this!"
Zhou Chun caught the pearl and quickly bowed to express his gratitude.
Su Yunniang looked at him with a solemn expression and said, "Although this is not a magic weapon, it is a magic artifact that I inherited from my sect's predecessors. It belongs to the sect, so you must use it carefully and not damage it. Otherwise, I will be punished by the sect."
"Yes, I understand. I will definitely protect this item."
Zhou Chun's heart skipped a beat, and he immediately agreed with a serious expression.
Next, Su Yunniang explained some tips for breaking illusions to Zhou Chun, and also explained how to use the "Colorless Illusion Bead".
After Zhou Chun had memorized everything, he bid farewell to Su Yunniang and his Daoist partner Su Yuzhen and left directly ahead of them.
Damn it, I'm feeling emo late at night. I hadn't even gotten out of bed this morning when my mom called to tell me it was my birthday. It really is my 25th birthday now. Time flies, I'm already 29. I have no car, no house, no girlfriend, and every few days my family calls urging me to find someone. I don't even dare go home! It's so painful! I cooked lunch alone and drank a bottle of wine. Food that I usually enjoy tasted like cardboard. Tonight I feel even worse! Writing this makes me feel even worse. That's it for today. I'm going out for a walk to clear my head and have some drinks to numb myself!
