Chapter 692 The Seeds of Doubt
Chapter 692 The Seeds of Doubt
Edward stared at the scorpion.
Why would the other party appear here? Why did the attacker have to run this way?
"What's up?"
Scorpion snapped out of his thoughts and looked at Edward with a puzzled expression.
"It's nothing." Edward shook his head and looked around. The view was open here, but the fog had covered a lot of ground earlier.
It's impossible to tell where the other person ran into.
"So what exactly happened between you two?"
Scorpion asked directly.
"Someone attacked me," Edward said.
Looking at the scorpion in front of him, he tried to find something amiss.
But Scorpion's face was as cold as ice, revealing no emotion whatsoever.
He hates people with facial paralysis.
Edward thought to himself, "This is what I'm thinking."
He now intends to put this as the second option, which he dislikes the most.
The first option is definitely that others say he's short!
"So you suspect me?" Scorpion looked at Edward with a sidelong glance.
The look in that other person's eyes said a lot.
Edward fell silent; his suspicions about Scorpion had indeed increased considerably.
"I hope you can find the truth."
Scorpion shrugged; he didn't care about such things anyway.
Edward looked at the indifferent scorpion and breathed a sigh of relief.
He didn't really understand why he felt so nervous, as if he was afraid that Scorpion was really the murderer.
He scratched his head.
The person in front of me should be an ordinary person, so what is he worried about?
"You're going to the scene of the attack, right? I'll go with you."
Scorpion spoke up.
Edward nodded.
What we need most right now is to look for clues.
Scorpion walked past the two men to the doorway and looked outside. The surroundings were open, and anyone hiding would be easily spotted.
After all, it was a hut chosen by the hunters; it was a place they specifically chose to prevent attacks by wild animals.
Their gaze finally settled on the ground in the distance, where there was only a peculiar magic circle drawn in chalk.
It's completely different from what Edward and the other person used.
Scorpion memorized it completely after just one glance.
"It seems that to create such a large area of mist, a lot of water is needed as a material."
Edward stepped forward and said.
"Mist?" Scorpion looked at Edward with a puzzled expression.
Edward nodded and said, "Their alchemy technique is probably water mist transformation."
"Can't water mist be generated out of thin air?" Scorpion asked curiously.
Since it's an equivalent exchange, can't we use something else to replace it?
"Because we can't understand it," Edward said, revealing the truth: if we can't understand it, we can't truly transform it.
Scorpion suddenly realized that he had put himself in the situation; not everyone could understand these material structures like he could.
His path involves constantly understanding these substances and then recombining them.
"Then where does the water come from?" Edward frowned deeply, not out of confusion, but out of resentment.
The scorpion seemed to be deep in thought.
It seems there is a way to bypass the understanding part and directly turn it into the finished product.
So what exactly made Edward so angry?
Scorpion looked at Edward thoughtfully.
The three arrived at the site of the attack.
The village chief, still shaken, waited for the three to arrive.
"Village chief, are you alright?" Edward asked with concern as he stepped forward.
In my haste to catch the murderer, I completely forgot about the village chief with dark circles under his eyes.
"It's nothing, I just saw a fog, and then you disappeared." The village chief patted his chest, still shaken, and glanced at the distracted Scorpion.
"Have you caught anyone?" the village chief asked Edward.
Edward shook his head. This person was too cunning, but at least it was confirmed that the other party was in this village.
The village chief looked disappointed.
Scorpion, lost in thought, glanced at the village chief and then ignored him.
The most important thing now is to deconstruct alchemy. He can sense that alchemy is of great benefit to his path to the Root.
Moreover, it can also make up for one's various shortcomings.
As for other matters, they are not his concern for the time being.
"I'd like to know about the alchemist's laboratory you used to work at," Edward asked.
"There's nothing left there," the village chief said hesitantly.
"I'm just looking," Edward said directly.
Even if everything is disposed of, some clues should still be left behind.
"Okay." The village chief nodded. "But it has to be tomorrow. The laboratory is a bit far from here, and I need to take care of some village affairs first."
Edward nodded. It was only a day, so there shouldn't be any problems.
Scorpion looked at Edward speechlessly. Was he being too naive? Hitting the target already made things very problematic.
Furthermore, they stated that tomorrow night would be enough time to sort everything out.
However, Scorpion didn't bother to say anything to remind them.
The village chief then sent the three of them back.
Scorpion merely glanced at them.
Its strength is too low to pose any threat whatsoever.
The village chief's house at night.
"What the hell are you doing?!" the village chief roared at a young man with gray hair.
"Do you realize that if it weren't for me, you would have been completely exposed!"
Edra was the name of this young man, who was extremely thin.
"So close, so close!" The young man's face was contorted with madness. "If I had that thing, I could definitely become a State Alchemist!"
He looked at the old man: "Once I become a state alchemist, I can apply to the state for compensation for the village, which will allow the whole village to recover."
The old man gritted his teeth as he stared at the man before him.
This person is the alchemist whom the entire village has supported.
They made enormous sacrifices to elevate this man to the position of national alchemy.
The entire village is now facing problems, with almost everyone in the village burdened with a mountain of debt.
If they really cut off contact with the people in front of them, what will they use to repay those debts?
They never expected that this young man would ultimately fail.
This made all their efforts go down the drain.
How could they accept this?
When the man appeared before them again, he said he had found a way to enter the ranks of state alchemists.
This rekindled their hope.
Little did they know that what followed would be a nightmare for them.
The village chief never expected that the other party's so-called promotion would require piling up names.
Like gamblers, they have once again placed their chips on the table and are completely unable to leave.
"As long as we pin the blame on that person." The white-haired man's crazed expression slowly faded, and he spoke calmly.
"How can we convince the alchemists from those two countries?" the village chief worried.
What the man did today should have been enough to make those two people suspect Scorpion.
But the final result disappointed him; the two of them didn't say anything at all.
"Those are two children," the man sneered.
"Just be prepared to pin everything on that man, kill him in the end, and make the two children think it was a suicide out of guilt."
Such a naive state alchemist is too easy to deceive.
The village chief's expression flickered with uncertainty, but in the end, he let out a heavy sigh.
They have no other choice.
"Do you have information to kill that person? That person could also be an alchemist."
The man snorted coldly: "That person is just an ordinary person. Let alone an ordinary person, even a state alchemist might not be my match."
He placed his hand on his waist, where a cloth bag was slightly ajar, through which a faint red glimpse could be seen.
"He was just a passerby who got dragged into this."
As long as he pins the blame on them, he can take his own prepared materials and retake the alchemist exam.
That woman said that as long as you use this thing, you can easily become an alchemist.
His eyes were bloodshot, and a crazed look returned to his face.
Once he becomes an alchemist, those who mock him will all meet a terrible end.
He has gone mad.
The village chief, however, failed to see the truth and sighed repeatedly.
The next morning.
"Knock knock knock!!" The loud knocking woke Edward up.
He jumped out of bed instantly, looking around in horror.
"You're awake," Scorpion said coldly. "Your trouble is here."
Edward's gaze turned towards the doorway.
"What happened?!" He looked at his younger brother Alphonse with a bewildered expression.
Alphonse shook his head; he was completely baffled as well.
The two men stepped forward and opened the door.
Outside, a huge crowd of people stood, their angry shouts mingling together.
"Hand over the murderer!"
"Hand over the murderer!"
"Murderer."
All the villagers blocked the entrance with weapons.
"Wait a minute." Edward quickly reached out to stop the people from continuing to roar.
But his attempts to stop him were completely futile.
"Ahem." A soft cough silenced all the villagers, who all turned to look at the village chief who was walking out from the crowd.
"Village chief, what exactly happened?"
Edward looked at the village chief with a puzzled expression, wondering why something seemed to have happened overnight.
"Someone died in our village last night," the village chief said in a deep voice.
Edward's pupils contracted: "How did he die? Have they found the killer?"
However, this was completely different from the alchemist they were chasing, who always kidnapped people and then disappeared.
How could he possibly kill someone?
"His neck was slashed with a knife," the village chief said in a deep voice.
"Although we didn't see the murderer, we found this coat." The village chief said, taking out a red trench coat.
Edward's pupils contracted when he saw the trench coat. He had seen that trench coat before, just a few days ago.
"It's Scorpion's clothes!" Alphonse said directly.
They've seen Scorpion wearing this outfit for the past two days.
The two looked behind them; Scorpion was still deep in thought, completely out of it.
They probably noticed being watched.
Scorpion turned its head and looked at them with a puzzled expression.
