Chapter 7 The Death of White Fang

The atmosphere in Konoha has become increasingly strange lately.

Uchiha Touyu, who frequently passed by Kakashi's house and occasionally visited it, had already noticed that many villagers were looking furtively at the Hatake family's house. Everyone passing by on the street had a solemn expression, as if they knew a huge secret but couldn't tell anyone.

Uchiha Touyu knew very well what these people knew: nothing more than the events surrounding Hatake Sakumo's failed mission. He had expected this matter to cause a great uproar, but he never expected it to end up as a scene of cold violence.

Actually, it makes perfect sense when you think about it – who is Konoha's White Fang? On the battlefield, he can kill hundreds or even thousands of ninjas with a single stroke of his blade, making him a fearsome figure throughout the ninja world. The common people of Konoha wouldn't dare throw rotten vegetable leaves into his house.

The boundaries between ordinary people and ninjas in this world are very strong. Even ordinary people living in Konoha Village, because they are used to seeing ninjas, may not be too afraid of ninjas, but they would not dare to do something so reckless.

What was evident was that when Konoha's White Fang went out, many commoners seemed to avoid him like the plague god, and after watching him walk away, they would gossip about him from behind... Of course, with White Fang's abilities, most of these discussions would not escape his ears.

However, not everyone was talking behind his back. On this day, when Uchiha Touyu passed by the Hatake family's gate, he heard a series of noisy noises.

"I don't need anyone to save me. As a ninja, once you accept a mission, you must be prepared to sacrifice yourself for it!"

"Because of my personal reasons, this mission failed, causing significant losses to the village. It's my fault, and I'm willing to atone with my death!"

When he arrived, he saw several ninjas from the guard unit dragging away an ordinary ninja, while a large group of civilians gathered around and discussed the matter.

By simply getting closer to the crowd, without Uchiha Touyu even having to ask, he learned from the crowd's discussions what had just happened.

The chunin whose life was saved by White Fang publicly apologized, and even tried to commit suicide to atone for his sins, but was stopped by the security forces and the Anbu.

Touching his chin, Uchiha Tou felt that the mastermind behind the scenes had done a rather crude job, both obvious and deliberate.

It's a simple principle: if you want to atone for your sins with death, why not just commit suicide at home? Why come to Sakumo Hatake's house? Isn't that just making trouble for Sakumo Hatake?

People who haven't experienced the internet age are easier to fool now; in later generations, they would be exposed in no time.

Although the methods were crude, the intention was truly ruthless! To be condemned by thousands and to be destroyed by slander... It's just a power struggle, is it really necessary to make it so ugly?

After this incident, the reputation that White Fang had earned for Konoha over the past 20 years, risking his life and fighting bloody battles, was completely destroyed. It took Hatake Sakumo 20 years to establish the title of Konoha White Fang, but the mastermind behind it destroyed it in less than 20 days.

The next morning, when Uchiha Tou passed by the Hatake residence again, he sensed the aura emanating from a powerful soul.

Uchiha Touyu was overjoyed, but his face remained expressionless. He slowly slowed his pace, preparing to knock on the Hatake family's door.

However, before he could even knock on the door, he heard a shrill scream. After a slight pause, Uchiha Hiyu immediately burst through the door and rushed inside.

Inside the room, Kakashi, who was usually known for his calm and composure, stared wide-eyed, his face mask pulled back halfway, revealing a look of horror and panic.

Opposite Kakashi, the legendary White Fang of Konoha, renowned throughout the ninja world, was now kneeling on the ground, blood flowing freely across the floor.

The white fang dagger, which had killed countless enemies, was stuck in his abdomen, cutting open a huge gash, and his internal organs spilled out.

"Aaaaaah! Father... Father, what's wrong?!"

Kakashi threw himself onto Sakumo Hatake, and touched Sakumo's body in fear, only to find that his father's corpse was already cold. He immediately trembled.

As Uchiha Touyu rushed in, he glanced at the White Fang Short Sword. Through his ability to control spirits, he sensed the powerful soul stored within the White Fang Short Sword and was immediately overjoyed.

With a gentle wave of his hand, the soul within the White Fang Short Sword was instantly summoned by Uchiha Touyu. In the Naruto world, souls are invisible to the naked eye without chakra, and Kakashi, currently immersed in grief and panic, naturally did not notice Uchiha Touyu's subtle actions.

Feeling the unprecedentedly powerful souls he had collected, Uchiha Touyu would have loved to burst into excited laughter if the atmosphere hadn't been so inappropriate.

However, since he was friends with Kakashi and had a good impression of Konoha's White Fang, Uchiha Tou managed to put on a sorrowful expression and reached out to help the dazed Kakashi up.

November of the 39th year of Konoha

Sakumo Hatake, the White Fang, a hero of the Konoha War, head of the Anbu, and renowned throughout the ninja world, committed suicide, shocking the ninja world.

Some were happy, some were sad, some were heartbroken, some were overjoyed, and many more were surprised.

Of course, there were many happy people. Upon hearing the news, most ninjas in the ninja world were overjoyed and gave their thanks with high fives.

White Fang roamed the battlefields of World War II, making countless enemies. In particular, this guy was a speed-type ninja similar to the Yellow Flash, and he was a master at crushing weaker opponents and killing countless ninjas. Ordinary ninjas from other ninja villages both hated and feared him.

This guy, who was considered a demon king by other ninja villages, was not harmed by his enemies or by the war. Yet he died in peacetime, committing suicide for such a ridiculous reason. Because it was suicide, he didn't even qualify for a memorial tablet after his death. It's a complete joke.

To ninjas from other villages, it was a comedic joke; to Konoha, it was dark humor.

Almost immediately after the news of White Fang's suicide spread, Sunagakure sent its army to the border of the Land of Rivers, as if war was about to break out at any moment.

Meanwhile, the other major ninja villages were also making moves. Given the current situation, the ninjas of Konoha were certain that the Third Shinobi World War was about to begin.

The suicide of Konoha's White Fang not only deprived Konoha of its sharpest blade among its high-end combat forces, but also dealt a huge blow to the morale of the entire village.

White Fang has risked his life countless times and made countless contributions to Konoha. Although the failure of this mission has had a significant impact, it is merely a minor blemish on his otherwise perfect character.

As a result, this brave and fearless ninja, whose personality was almost perfect, was driven to his death by the village's public opinion, which naturally made all the ninjas feel a sense of shared sorrow.

Those Jonin and higher-ranking Chunin knew that this media storm was connected to the Konoha leadership, which greatly diminished their trust in them. Meanwhile, some ordinary ninjas were terrified by White Fang's tragic end and could no longer trust their comrades.

After all, even someone like Konoha's White Fang paid the ultimate price to save his comrades. So who would still be willing to trust their comrades?
