Devouring Stars: Master of Evolution

Chapter 3 Test

"Knock knock knock"

Suddenly there was a knock on the door.

Qin Mu was a little puzzled; who would come over so late at night?

Despite her doubts, she worked quickly, picking up the pieces of meat and larvae from the living room and placing them in the kitchen.

The moment a thought crossed its mind, the larvae stopped eating to avoid being discovered.

After tidying up, Qin Mu walked to the door and looked through the peephole.

Standing outside the door was a square-faced, weary-looking middle-aged man with one arm.

"It's Uncle Qing."

Upon seeing the visitor, Qin Mu quickly opened the door, welcomed them in, and led them to sit down in the living room.

The man who came was named Wang Qing. He was a retired soldier and also Qin Mu's father's sergeant when he was in the army.

Eight years ago, during the beast tide, the original owner's father lost his life, and he lost an arm.

He said that he was able to come back alive because his original father saved his life, so he only lost an arm.

After retiring, he has taken good care of Qin Mu all these years. Especially after the original owner's mother passed away, if it weren't for Wang Qing, the original owner probably wouldn't have been able to hold on.

"Xiao Mu, have the results come out yet?"

Uncle Qing looked concerned as he asked, his face showing signs of fatigue.

"The score is out, 560 points, just one point short."

Qin Mu's expression was complicated.

"560?"

Uncle Qing fell silent, sighed, and looked at Qin Mu with a hint of heartache in his eyes before finally speaking.

"Are you planning to repeat a year of high school, or go to a junior college?"

Over the years, he has been the one who cares about the original owner the most. He has handled almost everything by himself and has long regarded him as his own nephew.

"I haven't decided yet."

Qin Mu shook his head; he hadn't really thought about his future plans yet.

Having just arrived in this world, he still had many questions in his mind.

"This definitely needs to be carefully considered."

If anything happens, just call me. Whatever decision you make, I'll support you.

After chatting for a while, Uncle Qing carefully observed Qin Mu's expression and only felt relieved after confirming that Qin Mu was not acting strangely.

He knew the original owner of this body all too well.

Over the years, in order to become a martial artist, he has trained desperately, even disregarding his own body.

If it weren't for Uncle Qing using his connections in the military to buy a lot of good military supplements, given the original owner's relentless drive, her body would have given out long ago.

The reason I rushed over was because I was afraid that if the original owner didn't do well on the exam, she might do something drastic.

After repeatedly telling him to contact him if anything happened, and confirming that Qin Mu was alright, Uncle Qing left with peace of mind.

Uncle Qing also lives in this community. His wife passed away years ago, and he only has a son and a daughter. His eldest daughter is 15 years old and is taking the high school entrance exam this year, while his son is only 11 and still in elementary school.

After retiring from the military, Uncle Qing was assigned to work in a military factory. He was busy from morning till night every day. Although the work was not tiring, the working hours were long and it was very hard.

Normally, Uncle Qing would help the original owner with whatever she needed to do, so the two had a very good relationship.

After seeing Uncle Qing off, Qin Mu returned to the living room and let the larvae continue feeding.

As the larvae continued to feed, Qin Mu felt a faint power flowing through his body, repairing his injuries and improving his physique.

I just don't know exactly how much of an improvement there will be.

"I'm going to the Extreme Martial Arts Gym tomorrow to test my strength and speed."

"I hope for a significant improvement."

Qin Mu thought to himself.

Although the Zerg are strong, this is only a larva after all, and Qin Mu is not sure how much improvement it can provide him.

He could only hope that after accumulating enough energy, he could transform into a worker insect, and the resulting strength would allow him to become a quasi-martial artist.

Although it was almost eleven o'clock, Qin Mu wasn't sleepy at all. He decided to go back to his computer and check the latest news to get a feel for the situation in this world.

"In the wilderness, a martial artist discovered a powerful warrior from the Ultimate Martial Arts Academy fighting a lord-level monster. After a fierce battle, he killed it with a single strike."

"The military announced a major breakthrough in its new generation of laser cannons, which are expected to be miniaturized."

"The HR Alliance has developed a new type of gene drug that can enhance the physical fitness of martial artists."

Qin Mu eagerly searched for information online, combining it with the information in his memory, and gained a clearer understanding of this world.

Qin Mu finally fell into a deep sleep very late.

Early in the morning, just as dawn was breaking, an alarm clock woke Qin Mu up.

Although he didn't sleep well at night, Qin Mu felt a sense of relaxation in his body.

After sensing it for a moment, Qin Mu knew that this was because the insectoid larvae fed on him, and some of the hidden injuries in his body were repaired.

After getting up, Qin Mu went straight to the kitchen.

The insect larvae had already consumed hundreds of kilograms of meat. After a night of feeding, its body had grown from the size of a palm to half the size of an arm.

"A normal Zerg larva is about half the size of an adult's forearm, and the larva's body has already recovered."

Based on the larva's feedback after feeding, it not only recovered its normal body size, but also stored up one-fifth of the energy it would have needed to hatch into a worker larva.

Based on the information from the larvae, Qin Mu defined the energy required for the larvae to mutate into worker larvae as 5 points of energy, which is roughly equivalent to 100 kilograms of ordinary pork providing 1 point of energy.

Wild boar meat contains about twice the energy of regular pork.

In other words, for a larva to mutate into a worker larva, it needs to be provided with 500 jin of ordinary pork or 250 jin of wild boar meat.

Last night, the Zerg larvae consumed 60 kilograms of regular pork and 50 kilograms of wild boar meat. Some of it was used to revive their bodies, and the rest was stored up, now containing 1 point of energy.

It only needs to consume another 200 jin of wild boar meat or 400 jin of ordinary pork to complete the accumulation and pupate into worker worms.

Even if the larvae kept eating, it would take them one or two days to consume several hundred pounds of meat, which is about the size of an arm.

In just one or two days, they transform from larvae into worker insects. This growth rate might be astonishing for other races, but it is actually quite slow for the Zerg.

Because once a Zerg larva hatches from its nest, it can immediately activate its genes and pupate into a worker insect.

However, this larva had been dormant for an unknown period of time, and its energy had long been exhausted. In order to prolong its life, its body had even shriveled up.

"The meat of the one-horned wild boar contains only about twice the energy of regular pork, but it is six or seven times more expensive, making it very poor value for money."

"Although it's not the most cost-effective option, it saves more than half the time. Right now, time is what I lack most, so I'll stick with buying wild boar meat."

With over 500,000 yuan in hand, I am not short of funds in the short term.

It's already the 16th, and there are only half a month left until next month's assessment. I must find a way to help the Zerg larvae accumulate energy as soon as possible, hatch them into worker larvae to increase their strength, and at the same time, provide feedback to myself.

So early in the morning, Qin Mu went to the market and spent more than 3 yuan to buy 3 jin of wild boar meat, which the insect larvae devoured.

After finishing all that, Qin Mu headed towards the Limit Martial Arts Hall, where he needed to test his strength.

It was still early when Qin Mu entered the Limit Martial Arts Hall. There were also groups of people walking towards the hall to begin their day's training.

We walked into the martial arts training hall on the third floor of the intermediate teaching building.

There weren't many people in the training hall at the moment. Qin Mu walked to a corner and turned on a punching power testing machine.

Standing in front of the punching power testing machine, Qin Mu recalled the original owner's method of generating power.

After taking a deep breath, Qin Mu used his waist and hips as the center of his power, his spine arched sharply, and he mobilized all his strength to slam his fist into the punching bag.

"740 kilograms!"

"No, how come it's only 740 kilograms? It's even less than before. Also, when I exert force, I feel a stinging sensation all over my body. The hidden injuries in my body are affecting my ability to exert force."

Qin Mu's expression changed.

"Peng"

Qin Mu slammed his fist into the punching bag.

738 kilograms.

After several punches.

"I understand, I was using the wrong technique!"

Qin Mu's eyes narrowed, and he understood.

In his previous life, he was just an ordinary person who had never undergone any training and was unable to unleash the true power of his body, which is why he is in his current situation.

Given the impact of injuries, it's not surprising that he achieved this result.

"call--"

Qin Mu calmed himself down, let out a long breath, and endured the physical discomfort when exerting force, constantly adjusting his method of exertion.

"Boom—"

"752 kilograms!"

"Boom—"

767 kilograms

"Boom—"

After repeated adjustments, Qin Mu's performance data indeed continued to improve.
