Chapter 12 What a coincidence!

As Bai Mo finished speaking, the rest of the team turned their attention to Chu Yunlong.

Since the day before yesterday, they have been encountering these corpses of dust raccoon dogs during their patrols. They look like they were killed by a swift wolf and had their hearts taken.

As time went on, the number of corpses also increased.

Chu Yunlong's expression was solemn as he calmly met everyone's gaze and spoke:

"I've already discussed this with the other two patrol teams, and we've decided that if the same thing happens during today's patrol, we'll all report it to the commander. Continue patrolling!"

"Yes! x8"

He answered, casually tossing the corpse into his personal space, and nodded. Because spatial magic was the most practical, he was now at the front of the group.

Leading everyone, they proceeded towards the next destination.

Anyway, he's given the reminder, and there's nothing else he can do about it.

Being a guide requires flexible approaches, because a teammate's reconnaissance may not uncover all the dangers.

Some dangers, however, arrive before you even realize they're there.

Take, for example, this cauliflower snake that lunges at you.

"Holy crap, the Illusionary Serpent!"

The thought had barely crossed his mind when Bai Mo, realizing the scientific name of the snake, exclaimed in surprise and raised his hand to shield his face.

A dazzling streak of starlight followed the trajectory of his arm's movement.

"Telekinesis!"

The layers of space gathered and combined under his control, forming a spatial shield that stood in front of him.

"Air Shield!"

"Bang!"

"Snap!"

A crisp impact sounded, followed by the sound of something breaking. Bai Mo breathed a sigh of relief.

Although the air shield was cracked by the impact, it managed to block it, because the book said that the Void Serpent had both spatial and mental attributes, and he was afraid that he would not be able to block it.

But then he felt a wave of dizziness and a sense of fear rose from the bottom of his heart.

He immediately focused his mind and concentrated his mental energy, but his eyes were fixed on the illusory snake that had stood up and was the same height as him, staring at him.

"Lingyi—Reassure!" Chu Yunlong's immediate reassurance freed the team members from their fear.

Zhao Qingying examined the ethereal serpent carefully, then breathed a sigh of relief and said, "It's only a servant-level creature, so it's manageable. Its teeth are actually quite good materials for spatial magic tools."

"No need, he's already run away."

Chu Yunlong shook his head, and only then did everyone realize that the ethereal snake that was still staring at Bai Mo was fading away.

Bai Mo shook his head and sighed.

"Unfortunately, space-type demons are all treasures. Especially the Void Illusion Serpent, which possesses monarchical bloodline; servant-level ones are quite rare among them."

"Wow, Bai Mo! You've reached the third level of the initial stage!" Zhou Tianyuan was clearly not disappointed; he had just recovered from the shock of Bai Mo reaching the third level of the initial stage.

At this moment, several teachers who had been secretly following the students and routinely checking their performance also stared wide-eyed, their faces filled with disbelief.

"After all these years, our school is finally going to have a mid-level mage before even graduating! I'm going to transfer to the first class to teach practical combat!"

A refined-looking teacher who appeared to be in his forties or fifties said, and a younger teacher next to him added, "And this is a space-related department."

"Haha, I knew Bai Mo wasn't like the rumors said," said Su Ning, the homeroom teacher, with a big smile.

Bai Mo didn't notice the teachers' actions; he was busy dealing with the praise from his teammates.

But no matter what people praised, Bai Mo would just say, "Yes, yes, keep talking," so everyone stopped talking.

They had never seen such a shameless person.

The patrol continued.

The next day

In Commander Sanfeng's office, Yang Biao held three similar reports in his hand, frowning as he muttered to himself:

"Wind Wolves? They're fighting with Dust Wind Badgers? That can't be. We killed their wolf king just five years ago."

After thinking for a moment, he called out, "Xiao Ye, go and visit the other peak commanders and ask if the Gale Wolves have made any unusual moves! Send me the results via text message."

"yes!"

In the information age, he's not out in the field. This isn't to show off; the commanders of the other peaks are in the office next door.

After giving his instructions, Yang Biao didn't just wait around. Instead, he immediately called several of his capable subordinates, wanting to personally investigate the Third Peak.

Meanwhile, the third peak.

Beside a dried-up stone pool, a huge wolf with a bluish glow lay prone.

One after another, swift wolves leaped out of the stone pool in front of it, spitting out magic stones that also shimmered with blue light from their mouths in front of it.

Meanwhile, several swift wolves, some short and some long, came running and brought bloody hearts to it.

It opened its mouth and sucked it in, swallowing it whole. Then the blue light on its body shone even brighter.

"Awooo~~~~~~~~~~~~!"

A long, low groan emanated from its mouth, urging its people to dig more Wind Demon Ore in the cave at the bottom of the pool, and to hunt more Dust Wind Badgers, in order to increase its chances of advancement and shorten the time required.

"Commander, how about we just use the demon detector?"

After wandering around the forests of the third peak with Yang Biao for half a day without finding anything, one of his subordinates suggested...

Their investigation had reached a bottleneck; what was certain was that the Gale Wolves of the Three Peaks were hunting the Dustwind Badgers. And their actions were becoming increasingly aggressive and escalating.

But they couldn't find where the Gale Wolf had taken the hearts. They had tried to track it, but following the Gale Wolf in the mountains was more difficult than catching it.

Moreover, the Gale Wolves have a keen sense of smell, and they can easily detect magical marks.

So, unsurprisingly, they lost track of them.

Chu Yunlong, the captain of the fifth team who had been called to lead the way, was also deep in thought. His mental cultivation was insufficient, and he couldn't detect things very far. If only he could pinpoint their location.

Thinking of this, he looked at Wang Feng, the team leader, and fell into deep thought.

Wang Feng was baffled. He had only made a suggestion, so why was he being stared at like that? He then said quietly:

"Chuchu, the way you're looking at me is misleading."

Chu Yunlong's lips twitched, and he said irritably, "I'm not interested in you. I just thought of a way to track down the wolf cub."

"What method?"

The remaining three all asked the same question.

Chu Yunlong didn't answer, but smiled mysteriously and asked Wang Feng, "Old Wang, I remember you got ripped off at the antique market last time, spending a lot of money on a positioning magic device, but it turned out only space-type mages could use it. Do you still have that thing?"

"Yeah, where are we going to find a space-type mage these days? They're either rare gems in every place, or big shots who're too busy to be around. Anyway, we don't have any in Zhongjian Town."

Upon hearing Chu Yunlong's words, Wang Feng understood his method and immediately asked the most crucial question.

Chu Yunlong gave a satisfied smile, glanced at Yang Biao, and rubbed his hands together.

"What a coincidence! A student just joined my team; he's a space mage."

"Students?" Wang Feng frowned, as did Yang Biao and the others. "Can students handle this?"

"My little brother is no worse than an ordinary military mage, and he only uses a magical artifact; we don't expect him to fight. Yang Jun, what do you think?"

Chu Yunlong offered an explanation, then turned to ask the person beside him who could make the decision.

Yang Biao recalled the text message he received when he first arrived. It mentioned that there were no abnormalities on the other peaks, meaning the source of the anomaly was on the third peak.

Things should be done sooner rather than later. Using the demon detector requires applying at every level, not to mention...

It would be tantamount to directly waging war against the demons of the Third Peak, and could even have far-reaching consequences. It's simply not worth it, nor is it possible.

So only the solution proposed by Chu Yunlong remained.

Therefore, Yang Biao nodded and said, "We can give it a try. Old Wang, you and Old Chu go back together and invite that little guy over."
