Full-Time Magister: I Had No Intention of Reaching the Dimensional Throne
Chapter 236 The True Face
As soon as Ding Yumin finished her telepathic communication, the group felt a strange fragrance waft by, followed by a feeling of dizziness, which was quickly dispelled by the antidote they had taken beforehand.
"sleep!"
With great skill and boldness, Gu Changying realized that things were not as they had imagined, and a voice transmission rang in everyone's ears.
So Bai Mo and the others pretended to have been suddenly poisoned and fainted, collapsing into the purple grass.
But then these purple plants began to dance and bind Bai Mo and the others.
"The boss's poison magic is still the most effective. I told you I wouldn't be needed," the shadow mage laughed.
"Of course, I secretly released quite a lot along the way, just a little at a time, and then detonated it all when we arrived at our destination. Even a mage of the same element would have a hard time detecting this sleeping poison wind."
Nanfeng laughed smugly. He was a lightning-type super-rank mage, and although his poison-type cultivation was not high, only at the intermediate level, his understanding of magic was far superior to that of other mages of the same type.
The seven hunters lined up in the bushes, watching as the shadow mage, known as the second-in-command, used plant magic to bind Bai Mo and his group of five. A rather lewd-looking man said:
"Boss, these women are all quite good-looking. How about we let the brothers have some fun first, and then offer them to the master?"
"Get lost! Last time you couldn't resist, and Eighth Brother was eaten as a substitute. And now you're back again!" The second brother's sinister face was fixed on the rather lewd man's face with hawk-like eyes, and he laughed:
"If you can't control yourself, I can cut it off for you!"
"Second Brother, no, no, I was just saying, just saying!"
"Alright, second brother, carry these up to the sandbar and offer them to that Phantom Thunder Crocodile," Nanfeng sighed.
The second brother immediately fell silent, manipulating the plants to lift Bai Mo and the other five, and headed towards the sandbar in the center of the river.
Everyone seemed relieved, except for one hunter who was older and had some gray hair:
"Brother Nan, this Sikong Wen is the young master of the Sikong family. If we do this, won't we be offending the Sikong family?"
"So what if we've offended you? We're out in the middle of nowhere, who would know!" said a younger man with a crooked mouth.
"That's right. If we don't harm them, we'll be eaten by that Thunder Crocodile. If we can find an antidote, we don't want to harm anyone."
The hunters chatted amongst themselves, complaining about the current situation and trying to reassure themselves that they hadn't meant to harm anyone.
Bai Mo and the others, who were pretending to be asleep, basically figured out what was going on from their words.
There does seem to be a lightning-type soul seed here, but the one guarding it is not one of the two peak-level commander-in-chief lightning crocodiles, but a sub-monarch-level phantom lightning crocodile.
The Lightning Hunters were no match for a sub-monarch. They had just arrived here half a year ago, eager to collect soul seeds, when they were suddenly attacked by the Phantom Lightning Crocodile, losing most of their members.
Only a few remained, controlled by the Phantom Thunder Crocodile, who possessed psychic abilities, through poison and mental manipulation. They were required to offer ten mid-level or higher mages every month, or they would die from the poison and their minds would shatter.
So, led by their surviving captain Nanfeng, they wandered around the area near the wilderness, hoping to find suitable prey to bring back to the Phantom Horned Crocodile in exchange for a chance to survive.
However, as time went on, they found it increasingly difficult to find suitable prey.
"These five people are all high-level. We have greatly satisfied the demands of that Phantom Thunder Crocodile. It has already eaten quite a few people, so it should be able to let us go now."
The hunters arrived at the sandbar and placed Bai Mo and the others near the riverbank, waiting for the arrival of the Phantom Thunder Crocodile.
"I've spoken with that Thunder Crocodile, and it promised to release us if we offer him a hundred people as tribute. We have ninety-five now, and after a while, we'll be free," Nanfeng said.
"If it won't release us, then I'll just have to wait until my cultivation improves so I can detoxify my brothers and then kill that beast!"
Upon hearing Nanfeng's words, the members of the Lightning Hunters' group also felt a glimmer of hope in their eyes.
However, Ding Yumin built a network of communication among the five people and began to discuss this matter.
"I never imagined the truth would be like this. When that Phantom Thunder Crocodile comes up, Hanxing, you and I will kill that beast together!"
"It doesn't seem that simple. I know about the Phantom Thunder Crocodile. It doesn't have poison abilities, and its mental abilities are equivalent to a high-level mage. Most importantly, the Phantom Thunder Crocodile is usually a Lesser Monarch, not a Sub-Monarch. How could it possibly be interested in the flesh and blood of a hundred mid-level and high-level mages?"
"Yu Mian, take a look at those hunter group members. Have they been affected by the mind-based abilities?"
"I checked. Except for Nanfeng, everyone else has been implanted with mind control."
What's going on?
"That demon is coming up. I have a way to guide them and see if we can see the truth."
Ding Yumin quietly recited a sentence in her heart, which was transmitted to the hearts of the four people. Then she severed the mental network, and wisps of invisible mental power continued to flow out from her body and drift away.
"Crocodile God, this is the food we offer to you!"
Upon seeing the churning river water and a ship-sized figure emerging from the water, Nanfeng quickly led the six members of the Thunder Hunters to stand not far from Bai Mo and the others, bowing respectfully.
"Screech!!"
Covered in grayish-purple scales, the enormous Phantom Thunder Crocodile let out a low growl and strode ashore. With a single inhale, it sucked Bai Mo and his companions into its mouth.
Seeing that the Phantom Thunder Crocodile had eaten Bai Mo and the others, the hunters all breathed a sigh of relief. The second-in-command sighed inwardly, "Finally, we can have a few days of peace."
As he spoke, he relaxed and sat down on the soft sand, even unconsciously squeezing a handful of sand in his hand. He secretly lamented that he had been under too much pressure lately, even doing something so childish, and that he was sure to be laughed at.
Turning his eyes, he saw that everyone else in the team was also slumped on the sand, except for the team leader, Nanfeng.
He chuckled, about to utter a mocking remark, but found that no matter how he opened his mouth, he couldn't make a sound. His whole body, inside and out, felt utterly powerless.
"How could this be?!"
The second brother roared inwardly, his hawk-like eyes instantly fixing on the only person standing there, their trusted leader, Nanfeng.
Nanfeng walked up to the Phantom Thunder Crocodile and affectionately touched its forehead. Only then did he realize that this was not a monarch, but clearly an advanced-stage commander.
That appearance is so similar to the Thunderhorn Crocodile that the leader mentioned died in battle to save him a year ago!
Years of hunting experience instantly led Eagle Eyes to conclude that they had all been deceived. This Thunderhorn Crocodile, in its advanced stage, must have mastered the power of the Mind System, and they had been fooled by it.
Boom boom boom! ! !
The heavy footsteps were clearly audible. Under the second brother's knowing yet resentful gaze, Nanfeng led the Thunderhorn Crocodile to his side. Seeing his expression, Nanfeng smiled.
"Found you? But it's no use. After eating you all, my crocodile should have gathered enough power to challenge the monarch. There's no better elixir than a human mage!"
"Besides, you all witnessed Sikong Wen's murder, and I'm not at ease about that, hahaha! You should feel lucky that dying at my hands will make you part of my strength. Dying in the wild would only benefit demons. Why look at me like that? I'm doing this for your own good!"
As Nanfeng spoke, he led the Thunderhorn Crocodile forward, and each time it passed a person, that person would enter the Thunderhorn Crocodile's belly without resistance.
The only proof that these people ever existed is the blood that splattered from the mouth of the thunder crocodile, staining the gray sand red.
"Swoosh~~~~~!"
After devouring the last person, the Thunderhorn Crocodile's aura surged. Suddenly, it spun around to look behind it, letting out an angry hiss, as if it had broken through something.
Nanfeng's expression changed, and he turned around instantly. He saw that Bai Mo and the others, who should have been eaten by the Thunderhorn Crocodile, were standing still, all looking at him with cold expressions.
He quickly looked around and saw that all the members of the Lightning Hunters had indeed gone into the Thunderhorn Crocodile's belly, and he breathed a sigh of relief.
"Mind-based? You've kept it well hidden, but do you think you can escape?" Nanfeng sneered, instantly understanding what had just happened.
"You trash, how could you cultivate to this level? You've truly offended my eyes!" Gu Changying's expression turned cold and fierce, and his aura surged.
"You could have died a quicker death, but alas, you were ungrateful! Thunderhorn Crocodile, tear them to pieces!"
Nanfeng's expression was cold and sinister. As an advanced-stage commander, taking down a mere five high-level mages was a piece of cake.
"Requiem - Broken Burial!"
But Gu Changying didn't take the charging Thunderhorn Crocodile seriously at all. As soon as she saw musical notes leaping out of her mouth, they fell into the Thunderhorn Crocodile's body like shooting stars.
"Screech!!"
In an instant, the Thunderhorn Crocodile, which had been charging forward with ferocious strides, stopped in its tracks, and a painful hiss came out of its mouth. Nanfeng, who was behind it, also clutched his head and cried out in pain. He felt as if a hand was grabbing his brain and kneading it at will, as if his soul was about to be crushed!
But an advanced-stage commander is still an advanced-stage commander. Even though his soul was suffering excruciating pain as if it were being sunk to the bottom of an abyss, leaving behind incurable wounds, the Thunderhorn Crocodile did not stop its pace. Instead, it became even more ferocious and charged towards them again.
"Clang clang clang!!!"
Then, a series of sounds, like the clash of metal, rang out as Gu Changying manipulated her hands.
Bai Mo could clearly feel that the final power of the Soul-Teasing Melody was condensed by Gu Changying into three sharp spikes, which turned into streams of light and landed directly on the Thunderhorn Crocodile that had just started, turning its already wounded soul into fragments.
With his contracted beast killed, Nanfeng let out another painful groan, and a mouthful of blood involuntarily spurted out.
"Damn it! You killed my precious treasure! Even if I die, I'll make you pay!"
Nanfeng's eyes were bloodshot. Having witnessed Gu Changying's strength, he knew that this woman had been hiding her true abilities all along the way, and that her spiritual realm was stronger than he had imagined!
He knew he couldn't escape, so he decided to drag others down with him.
"thunder"
The south wind summoned a spell, and brilliant lightning danced across his arms, as intense lightning elements converged.
"Break!"
Just then, Gu Changying spoke softly, and a string of sound instantly struck the constellation that Nanfeng was perfecting, severing the star trails he was drawing.
Intense emotional fluctuations can obviously cause someone to lose their rationality. Facing a sound-based mage, insufficient mental strength makes it difficult to complete a spell, especially one that is even harder to defend against than a mind-based spell's mental impact. Nanfeng's desire to fight to the death at this point is clearly a sign of irrationality.
"Thunder Arm!"
While Nanfeng hadn't finished his lightning magic, Sikong Wen's arms were radiating a dazzling purple light. Two incredibly thick, gleaming lightning pillars, entirely forged from countless bolts of lightning, instantly pierced through a hundred-meter space, striking Nanfeng. The boundless electrical energy surged, creating a hundred-meter-long lightning storm.
When everything dissipated, all that remained was a charred corpse blown in two and a pile of fragments of armor and magical artifacts.
"He got off easy, huh!"
Gu Changying glanced at Nanfeng, who was lying on the ground, and snorted coldly. He clearly felt that killing this guy so simply was not enough to atone for his sins.
"Alright, he's dead now. This guy was vicious; he'd do something like this just to help his contracted beast advance." Bai Hanxing shook his head.
"Let's see if there's any lightning-type soul seed he mentioned here."
Sikong Wen also shook his head slightly. Although he felt it was a pity that such a well-known hunter group in Leizhou ended up like this, he was more interested in the Thunder Seed.
Upon hearing this, everyone's gaze fell upon the stone peak in the center of the island. The stone peak was shaped like a right-angled trapezoid, and it was completely bare with nothing on it. The marks of lightning strikes were quite conspicuous on the gray-white rock surface.
There are some cracks in the middle of the rock face on the side of the stone peak, and blue lightning can be seen appearing and disappearing in the cracks.
Upon seeing the lightning, both Sikong Wen and Bai Hanxing's eyes lit up.
"There really is a mine!"
"However, the concentration of this element doesn't seem like that of Soul Thunder." Bai Hanxing frowned.
"Open it and you'll know." Sikong Wen condensed an earthy yellow light in his hand and pressed it onto the rock.
In an instant, a yellowish-brown light enveloped most of the mountain peak, and the entire upper part of the mountain peak turned into fine sand that flowed down.
The group dodged the falling sand and stepped onto the mountainside, which was now only half there, forming a slightly higher stone platform.
Then a ball of blue, dazzling lightning crackled and lashed the air in the very center of the stone platform.
"It's just a spirit seed, and it looks like it's Indigo Lightning, suitable for naval warfare. The added effect of Lightning Bolt will give the lightning a strong cohesive force, and it won't lose its power in water. It can be sold for some money."
Sikong Wen looked around and talked. As a family specializing in lightning, his family had a fairly comprehensive understanding of various lightning-type spiritual species.
"I have a younger brother at home who has just reached the intermediate level. If none of you have any ideas, I will shamelessly take this Indigo Lightning." Sikong Wen glanced at Bai Mo.
"Brother Sikong, please use it. Hanxing and I don't need it." Bai Mo shook his head, then pointed to the dead Thunderhorn Crocodile and joked, "Brother Sikong, don't argue with me about the crocodile's thunder horn."
"I'm not interested in that stuff, and Brother Bai, you should ask Sister Changying instead." (End of Chapter)
