Full-Time Magister: I Had No Intention of Reaching the Dimensional Throne
Chapter 249 Silla Pavilion, Battle of Lingjiang
Chapter 249 Silla Pavilion, Battle of Lingjiang
Perhaps because they came by ship from Japan, the customs in Goryeo seemed to be checking them more strictly. However, after they revealed their identities as sorcerers, they didn't cause them any trouble.
This harbor belonged to Silla, the capital of Goryeo, and Goryeo's national pavilion was also located here.
That saved them the trouble of traveling a long way.
As the capital of a country, Silla was quite large.
In the northern part of the bustling city, there is a tranquil area surrounded by ancient gardens and palace walls. Within these walls, pavilions and towers stand in rows, adorned with vermilion and rosy hues, solemn and dignified, their style quite similar to the imperial palaces of Kyushu.
Visitors are not prohibited from entering, but an entrance fee is required, which is approximately 108 RMB.
There are many tourists here, but the majority are students.
This is because it is the site of the Silla Academy, and the Goryeo Kingdom Hall is located within it.
"I had heard that Silla Academy, the premier academy in Goryeo, was converted from a former royal palace. Seeing it today, I can confirm that it is true."
Instead of heading to the National Hall for the match immediately, the group first strolled around the academy, where Jiang Shaoxu remarked with emotion.
"It's quite unique, but it's a pity to waste such a collection of ancient buildings," Jiang Yu remarked.
"I've heard that this area was undeveloped back then and belonged to the Ya'an region of Silla," Zhao Manyan said, arms crossed, looking unconvinced.
"Because this place has good historical significance, we set up the academy here. We can use a large group of mages to fight off demons without spending too much on construction and saving on military expenses."
"If that's the case, then the students at Silla Academy back then must have had a pretty tough time."
"They were very strong. Back then, the Goryeo National Team could easily crush Japan," Ai Jiangtu said.
"Times have changed. The current Goryeo National Team is just so-so." Mu Tingying pouted.
"We've already looked around, Jiang Shaoxu, go find someone and ask them where the National Pavilion is. After we finish, we still need to complete our mentor's assignments."
Jiang Shaoxu nodded and casually went to strike up a conversation with someone who appeared to be a student from the Silla Academy.
"Another training mission? What is it?" Ai Jiangtu asked.
"Let's go to the naval battle. Instructor Feng Li wants us to go to Lingjiang City to see how Goryeo deals with sea monsters."
As a peninsula country, Goryeo has almost half of its border along the sea, but its situation is somewhat unique.
To the west, the Fusang trees block their view; to the east, the Kyushu coastline is visible.
The intensity of the sirens they faced was arguably a level lower; it was simply that the length of the coastline was enough to kill them.
Ai Jiangtu seemed to be deep in thought. This situation was somewhat similar to some of the coastlines of Kyushu.
"It seems the country has been paying a lot of attention to the ocean these past few years," Jiang Yu said, having also discerned the deeper meaning behind the two recent training missions.
"Are you guys going to the National Stadium to watch the game? I'll show you the way!"
Just as Bai Mo was about to speak, a voice that sounded exceptionally gentle, polite, magnetic, and refined suddenly rang out in front of everyone.
Following the sound, they saw a handsome man who looked gentle and refined walking closer, led by Jiang Shaoxu with an amused expression.
"They are all my friends, sir, thank you for your help."
Jiang Shaoxu pointed at the crowd and chuckled, exuding an aura of impending chaos and disorder.
"No trouble at all. My name is Park Nam-in, and I'm a gymnast from Korea. There's an intra-team sparring match coming up later, so taking you there is no problem at all."
Park Nam-in wore a warm smile, his gaze sweeping over Bai Mo and the others without lingering, finally settling on Jiang Shaoxu and remaining fixed on her for a long time, looking serious yet somewhat arrogant.
Upon hearing his name, Zhao Manyan, Guan Yu, and Jiang Yu felt a chill run down their spines and a cold dread down their backs.
"Then I'll have to trouble you." Jiang Shaoxu smiled broadly, instantly captivating Park Nam-in.
So, with strange expressions, the group headed towards the National Hall of Silla Academy, led by Park Nam-in.
"Hey, Bai Mo, I think this person is a bit dangerous. Don't call me up later."
Zhao Manyan approached Bai Mo at some point and said slyly.
"What danger could a mid-level mage pose?" Nan Jue glanced at him, puzzled.
"That's right, you're just a substitute, you might not even be qualified to play, don't be so arrogant," Mu Tingying said at this moment.
"You don't understand."
Zhao Manyan was too lazy to argue with this woman who was always trying to feel superior. The main problem was that Mo Fan wasn't there, and he wasn't strong enough on his own.
The Silla Kingdom Pavilion was located not far from the main gate of the ancient royal palace; they arrived in just a few steps.
Dojo are usually quite spacious, and the Silla Kingdom Dojo is no exception.
Upon entering, Bai Mo and his group were stopped; more precisely, Park Nam-in, who was leading the way for them, was stopped.
"Hey Park Nam-in, it's one thing if you bring your mistress to the National Hall all the time, since it's just one person. But why are you bringing a whole bunch of people in now? We need space for training too. Don't bring shady characters to the National Hall. This isn't a place for you to put on airs and satisfy your personal desires!!"
Then a woman wearing black-rimmed glasses and with her hair neatly combed reprimanded him.
The woman was dressed in a formal suit and looked to be close to thirty years old. She had the air of a homeroom teacher and her eyes were full of disdain for the student in front of her.
"Mentor, it's me."
Park Nam-in's expression changed, and he was about to argue when the woman in front of him waved her hand impatiently.
"Alright, go in. It's training time. Don't make me say it a second time!"
After speaking, she ignored Park Nam-in and stepped forward to stand in front of Bai Mo and the others. Her sharp eyes, hidden behind her glasses, swept over them, and her tone softened slightly, yet still carried an undeniable authority:
"You're not students of Silla Academy, are you? Then go outside. You can visit the gardens outside, but the National Hall is not for unauthorized personnel."
"We are the Kyushu National Government Team, here to challenge you."
Bai Mo had no intention of saying more, and directly took out the national server badge to prove their identities, indicating that they were not just random people.
"The Kyushu National Government Team?"
"National Government Team!"
The dignified female instructor looked slightly surprised as she glanced at the national uniform badge that Bai Mo had taken out, while Park Nam-in behind her was incredulous, and even more so, angry at feeling like he had been tricked.
"Since it is the Kyushu National Government Team that has graced us with their presence, please follow me."
The female instructor glanced at Park Nam-in and gestured for him to enter.
Upon entering the National Hall, the female instructor immediately informed everyone that Bai Mo and the others had come to challenge them.
"How do you all plan to compete?"
Bai Mo glanced at everyone. "Team competition."
"Okay, please wait a moment, I'll go and make the arrangements right away."
On the other side, Park Nam-in sat with the other students guarding the school, his eyes showing a mixture of three parts insecurity, three parts fierceness, and four parts shame and anger.
Facing the instructor who was selecting students to fight against the Kyushu team, he angrily shouted, "Instructor, I want to go on stage! Those people dared to mock me! I'm going to beat them back!"
The female instructor ignored him, glanced at the students guarding the hall, and finally called on him and another mage with high cultivation level, along with two other students with decent strength to come up on stage.
As for Bai Mo, it was very simple, and he didn't need to consider anyone's opinions. He glanced at everyone and finally said:
"Old Ai, Guan Yu, Li Kaifeng, Mu Tingying, you guys go."
He was too lazy to take action. Without Mo Fan and Mu Ningxue, the only force in the team that could act as a destruction mage was Mu Tingying, which was barely enough to fight Goryeo.
After all, Ai Jiangtu is there to back them up.
The battle began quickly. The spatial magic caught the opponent off guard. While the four opponents were still casting spells, Ai Jiangtu's telekinetic fist had already landed on one of them, instantly injuring him severely.
It was clear that Park Nam-in on the other side was very angry. His other companion was clearly a high-level mage, and he was able to temporarily withstand Ai Jiangtu's attacks.
However, it is clear that their application of magic is not as advanced as that of Ai Jiangtu and others, and like Mu Tingying and others, they have not even mastered high-level magic.
Under the leadership of Ai Jiangtu, who was skilled in using high-level magic, the Korean forces could offer almost no effective resistance.
The situation was one-sided and overwhelming from the very beginning, with the three mid-level players from Korea being eliminated almost instantly.
One of the higher-ranking members managed to hold out for a short time only by relying on his control and the magical artifacts he possessed, before following in the footsteps of his two teammates.
Marking Kyushu as part of Goryeo's national record does nothing to arouse much interest, which is perfectly reasonable.
"How boring, it ended so easily." Sitting on the train to Lingjiang City, Guan Yu shrugged.
"You're not happy about performing up there?" Bai Mo said with a faint smile.
"Uh, no, it's just that my opponents were too weak, and I couldn't really showcase my abilities."
"Tch, you're just pretending. The reason we won that game was mainly because Old Ai was awesome. What did it have to do with you three bastards?"
Zhao Manyan didn't like Guan Yu's pretentious attitude, and his words instantly drew the ire of the three men.
Because it was too noisy, Bai Mo had to interrupt, "What's the situation with the naval battle city in Lingjiang? Have you heard of it?"
Everyone fell silent for a moment, until Jiang Shaoxu spoke up:
"I do know a little about it."
So everyone's eyes fell on her.
"I've never been to Korea. I only heard about this from my uncle and other people." Jiang Shaoxu bit her lip and fell into reminiscence.
"Goryeo's western border is almost entirely occupied by the large city of Neunggang, and that's only because it has a lot of mineral resources; otherwise, Goryeo would hardly have bothered with its western coastline."
"And Neunggang City, as the largest city in western Korea, almost controls the entire western coastline."
"The entire western region!?" Ai Jiangtu was slightly surprised. "They have so many military mages defending it?"
Jiang Shaoxu shook his head. "No, their military mages only guard a few important towns related to mineral development and transportation."
"Then how did they deal with the sirens' invasion? Did they only defend Lingjiang?" Nan Jue couldn't help but wonder, as she had never actually studied Goryeo's naval warfare tactics.
"Not facing it." Jiang Shaoxu uttered three words that left everyone somewhat puzzled, then explained:
"There are no large towns in the west of Goryeo, and it is not close to the coastline. Except for some key parts, they take care of the rest of the area.
Since these are all demon territories, they only periodically send hunters to patrol the coastline to roughly determine which areas have been occupied by sea monsters. If it's important, they'll deploy forces to reclaim it; if not, they'll leave it alone.
Ai Jiangtu and Nan Jue exchanged a glance. Kyushu has an even longer coastline, and not every inch of it is inhabited by humans.
"What about Lingjiang City?" Mu Nujiao asked. "Most demons only target human settlements; they're not necessarily interested in demons on land. Since Lingjiang City is the largest city in western Goryeo, how do they defend against sea monsters?"
Upon hearing this, everyone took notice, since this was the location where they were going to train.
"The coastal cities of Lingjiang are almost all naval cities. They do not have the Dike God Stone to build long dikes to defend against sea monsters, so the real main city is actually located in a region at a higher altitude and deeper inland."
The entire coastal area is comprised of naval fortresses, but they have some dams and flood barriers made of sturdy materials to defend against the lesser demons. Therefore, while the intensity of the sea demons facing Lingjiang City is not as high as in Fusang, the number of sea demons will far exceed what we encountered in Donghai City.
After Jiang Shaoxu finished speaking, everyone basically understood Goryeo's method of dealing with the sea monster.
To put it simply, it means hiding where they can't reach you and using social forces to deal with them.
Bai Mo could not deny this, as it could be a last resort for Kyushu. The northwest of Kyushu is vast and boundless, and it would be a dream to greatly revitalize the northwest.
However, the southeast is prosperous and has abundant resources, so it is obviously not something that can be easily given up.
The Goryeo territory is small, so for the people living there, moving around is not much different from moving from the bedroom to the living room, but this is not the case in Kyushu.
Separated by a mountain, the environment and climate are vastly different.
Upon entering Lingjiang Naval Battle City, the group was assigned to a district relatively close to the coast, and then no one paid them any attention.
"These buildings are sparsely distributed. If a sirens horde comes, most of them will be washed away, and they will have no ability to stop large sirens."
Nan Jue glanced around and noticed that the buildings were neither as densely packed nor as tall as those in Fusang Donghai City, and remarked:
"In this way, if a siren really attacks, our space to maneuver will be greatly reduced, making it much more dangerous."
"Moreover, the area we governed was located right in the center of this bay, and back then, who knows how many sirens would have passed through here."
Mu Nujiao pointed to the bay in the distance, her brows furrowing and then relaxing as she spoke:
"I can use plant-based magic to find a place to stay, but the main problem is the number of sirens."
Upon hearing this, everyone frowned. This was indeed the most troublesome problem; if there were too many sea monsters, they couldn't handle it.
But most of the people present were proud and arrogant. If they were to admit their incompetence, they might not be happy. They would always want to try and prove themselves first.
