Chapter 195 Heading to the Scorching Plains
Over the next few days, Lin Chen waited quietly at school for news from Lingling.
During this time, Zhao Manyan told Lin Chen and Mo Fan that he had also brought a trustworthy mage from the Zhao family named Chen Ying. Chen Ying was a mage specializing in earth magic and a student at the main campus of the Imperial Capital Academy, where she ranked very high overall.
Thus, the final team size was determined: eight people in total. Although the number was small, it was considered an elite group, which made everyone believe that this training trip to the North Corner of Zhuoyuan would be very fruitful.
Lingling made quick progress and didn't make everyone rush. She finished the preparations, and the group of eight prepared their equipment according to Lingling's requirements before heading to Dunhuang together.
Upon arriving in Dunhuang, Lin Chen and his group immediately felt the unique charm of Dunhuang, located in the northwest, compared to Shanghai.
Looking out over Dunhuang, the yellow sand stretches from your feet all the way to the horizon.
The yellow sand features brown mounds and fault lines resembling city walls, a stark contrast to the continuous and gentle slopes of the south and east.
Although Lin Chen and his group of eight were all mages, not everyone had the ability to teleport. They rode on locally trained wind camels and gradually approached the Scorching Plains, arriving at the fault line that the locals called the Boundary Line.
The boundary line leads from the direction Lin Chen came from to the territory of Dunhuang City. Security is set up within the territory, but going deeper into the boundary line leads to the perilous Gobi Desert.
This place is inhabited by a large number of elemental demons of earth and fire, as well as the local tyrant, the Sand Tiger Demon Clan. The aura released by these demons drifts across the vast Gobi Desert, causing even the wind camels, which are not much stronger than ordinary livestock, to feel their legs go weak upon smelling the scent and dare not move forward an inch.
"Lingling, Xinxia, you two sit on Garurumon."

After passing the boundary marker, the group released the wind camels, letting them return on their own. Lin Chen then summoned Garurumon to help Lingling and the immobile Ye Xinxia get around. He also summoned BlackGatomon and Gatomon to carry Lingling and Ye Xinxia, ensuring their safety.
"Roar!!"
Lin Chen and his group followed the terrain map Lingling had prepared beforehand. After traveling less than five kilometers, they heard a chilling roar coming from the distant, bulging sand dunes, seemingly telling the creatures deep within the Gobi Desert...
Prey is entering their hunting grounds.
The roar was deep and resounding, and it also brought a gust of wind, causing the surrounding sand dunes to shake off and flow sand.
"What bad luck! We've only been here a short while, and we've already run into the local tyrant!" Zhao Manyan cursed.
Having made detailed preparations long ago, he could tell what kind of creature it was just by hearing its cry.
"Don't be careless, everyone. This demon is the Sand Howling Tiger, which is one of the more ferocious demons among the warrior-level demons," Lingling reminded them.
"We're all here to train, so I won't make a move yet. You guys handle it. If you can't handle it, then I'll step in," Lin Chen said, looking at Sha Xiaohu, who was staring at them with his green eyes in the distance.
"This is just a Sand Roaring Tiger at the Warrior level, it's none of your business to interfere," Zhao Manyan said.
"Let's do it!" Mo Fan said, and then dashed out.
As the battle progressed, Mo Fan and the others' teamwork went from clumsy to proficient, and they easily dealt with the general-level Sand Roaring Tiger without much effort.
"This infamous Dunhuang Demon Tiger doesn't seem as scary as I imagined," Zhang Xiaohou said with a grin.
"You're quite impressive. When dealing with demons, you fully demonstrated the agility of wind magic." Mu Nujiao cast an admiring glance at Zhang Xiaohou.
"The monkeys in the military are scouts; they're experienced and have seen plenty of these kinds of situations," Mo Fan explained.
"I'm still a bit behind Brother Fan and Brother Chen. You two are the real experts." Zhang Xiaohou's dark cheeks flushed slightly, a little embarrassed.
"Stop with the mutual praise. Go check if this Sand Howling Tiger has any unusual bones or skin. Those are valuable items. You killed it, so I won't fight you for it," Lin Chen reminded him.
As soon as Lin Chen finished speaking, Mo Fan immediately reacted, his eyes gleaming as he quickly walked towards Sha Xiaohu.
Unfortunately, this Sand Roaring Tiger didn't have what Mo Fan wanted. Even its dead soul was just a common remnant. But Mo Fan and Zhang Xiaohou, upholding the spirit of diligence and thrift, still collected all the useful materials from the Sand Roaring Tiger.
"Let's keep going. Don't linger here too long. This is really nothing. The real test will come when we reach the Sand River," Lingling emphasized.
Lin Chen and the others continued forward for a short while before they saw a group of people rushing towards them through the vast expanse of yellow sand.
As the group approached, Lin Chen and the others realized that it was also a group of hunter mages. They were all quite young and were probably among the more powerful mages.
The group of hunter mages brushed past Lin Chen and his group at first, but Wen quickly caught up from behind.
One of the female mages, with a somewhat sallow complexion, quickly walked up to Lin Chen and his group, blocking their path. She angrily rebuked them, "You people are shameless! We painstakingly injured Sand Howling Tiger, tracked it for ages, and you just snatched it away! Don't you know that hunter mages aren't allowed to steal prey that other teams have already locked onto?!"
The dark-skinned female mage was imposing, with a shrill voice and an extremely rude attitude, making Lin Chen and the others feel very uncomfortable.
Lin Chen retorted, "You say you injured them, but where's the evidence? Don't tell me all the wounds on their bodies were inflicted by you. Wild demons suffer countless injuries. You should at least leave a mark on them to make sense."
The black-and-yellow female mage was speechless for a moment. They had indeed not left any marks, but after a pause, she continued, "You have dismembered their bodies, and you have removed all the marks. How do you expect me to find evidence for you?"
"Auntie, when that Sand Roaring Tiger found us, it wanted to eat us! If we don't kill it, are we just going to stand there and wait to die? You're being unreasonable." Zhao Manyan was a little unhappy. His Zhao family naturally didn't care about such things, but the spoils of war that he had fought so hard for had a different meaning. How could they be so easily taken away?
"Auntie, who are you calling 'auntie'! I'm not even thirty yet!" The dark-skinned female sorceress was furious, fuming.
They didn't listen to anything Zhao Manyan said afterward.
