Chapter 283 Gerbil
Chapter 283 Gerbil
Seeing the human mages fleeing at top speed, the demons still had no intention of giving up and continued their pursuit.
As the demons pursued the human mage, a humanoid demon gradually fell behind the demon ranks and drifted further and further away from the main force.
When the demon's figure completely disappeared from the humanoid demon's sight, the humanoid demon did not accelerate to chase after it. Instead, it changed direction and fled in another direction at a speed many times faster than before.
Once the humanoid demon reached a relatively safe place, it looked around for a moment and, finding nothing unusual, its body shrank considerably, transforming from a humanoid demon into a human.
Before long, Lin Chen's figure appeared in the vast desert.
"I thought there would be a battle, but I got the stuff so easily, and they haven't even discovered my whereabouts yet." Lin Chen muttered excitedly to himself. This operation opened up a new way of thinking for him. In the future, if he encounters a situation like this, he might be able to turn into a Digimon and blend in with the demons to impersonate their kind.
Lin Chen slid his right hand across the ring on his left hand, and two soul seeds radiating powerful auras appeared in his hand.
"Both of these soul seeds have domains, but this earth-type soul seed looks a bit off." Lin Chen frowned slightly.
At this moment, the energy of the wind-type soul seed has been contained within; without careful observation, one cannot perceive the immense power it actually contains.
However, this earth-type soul seed was still silently spreading outwards with a faint power. Even though it was in a restrained state, Lin Chen still felt a faint pressure, as if something was pressing down on his shoulders.
"Could this be a pseudo-heavenly seed?" Lin Chen's hand holding the earth-type soul seed trembled slightly.
Judging from its previous power, the wind-type soul seed should have been at the level of a large soul seed. Now, even in its restrained state, the earth-type soul seed is still stronger than the wind-type soul seed. This should be more than just a large soul seed.
"I can ask Zhao Manyan to sell this wind-type soul seed when I get back. As for the earth-type one, I'll wait until I'm stronger before considering that." Lin Chen put away the two soul seeds and looked around again.
By this time, it was already dark. Lin Chen looked at the stars shining in the sky and soon figured out the direction. He then summoned Garurumon and headed towards the location of Perth City.
After traveling for a while, in the quiet night, Garurumon suddenly stopped, its two ears twitching rapidly as if listening to something.
"Garurumon, have you found anything?" Lin Chen asked. Before Garurumon could answer, Lin Chen also noticed something was wrong.
To the left front of Lin Chen and Garurumon, a long procession was moving normally. As the procession got closer to Lin Chen and Garurumon, Lin Chen could hear the "rustling" sound of the procession moving.
As the group drew closer, Lin Chen realized it was a swarm of gerbils, one following another like a long snake moving through the desert.
Just as Lin Chen and Garurumon were on high alert, ready to fight at any moment, Lin Chen discovered that these gerbils did not attack them like other desert monsters. Instead, they treated Lin Chen and Garurumon as if they were invisible, walking past them nonchalantly.
"Something's not right. What kind of demon horde wouldn't attack a lone human? And Garurumon isn't radiating any leader-level aura." Lin Chen said with some doubt, patting Garurumon's back and indicating, "Garurumon, go and check it out. Something's definitely fishy."
Garurumon originally planned to follow Gerbil at a distance to avoid alerting them, but Gerbil's group was simply too long.
After waiting for a long time, the tail of the queue was still nowhere to be seen.
With no other option, Garurumon had to change its tactics. It sped up and rushed to the front of the Gerbil group, then quietly followed at a distance from the head of the Gerbils.
At first, the gerbils didn't pay attention to Lin Chen and Garurumon, just like before. But after Garurumon followed the gerbils for a while, a "squeak squeak squeak" sound suddenly came from the gerbils' group. Then, more than a dozen warrior-level gerbils rushed out of the group, their target Garurumon, who was walking alongside them.
"They've started attacking us. Could it be that the gerbils have something valuable they can't let me see?" Lin Chen wondered.
These dozen or so gerbils that charged toward Lin Chen, despite their name, were each as strong as an ox. Their speed during battle was significantly faster than their long procession. In a flash, they darted to a spot not far in front of Garurumon.
Under the starlight, Lin Chen discovered that these gerbils had extremely sharp teeth and claws, clearly indicating that they were not benevolent creatures, much stronger than the Bloodstriped Gorilla Rats he had encountered in Bo City before.
"Garurumon, pull them a bit further away. Don't fight them so close together, or they'll send more demons to follow," Lin Chen said.
Upon hearing this, Garurumon turned and ran in another direction. Seeing Garurumon flee, the gerbils did not return to the group.
Instead, they continued to follow Garurumon, as if they wouldn't return until they killed Garurumon.
Once Lin Chen, riding on Garurumon's back, could no longer see the long line of gerbils, he immediately ordered Garurumon to turn around and attack.
Seeing Garurumon turn around, the gerbils' eyes flashed with a scarlet light, and they charged fiercely at Garurumon, wanting to bite it to death on the spot.
However, while the idea was appealing, reality was harsh. Garurumon possessed commander-level strength and easily wiped out all the aggressive gerbils.
After dealing with the gerbils, Lin Chen did not immediately send Garurumon back, as he estimated that if they went back, they would still be attacked by the gerbil swarm.
So Lin Chen had Garurumon rely on its keen sense of smell to stay far away from the gerbils and not reveal itself to them.
And so, from dusk till dawn, and from dawn till dusk, two days passed in the blink of an eye. The gerbils showed no intention of stopping, nor did they send out any demons to search for the dozen or so gerbils that had not returned.
Just as Lin Chen was about to give up, he heard a system notification in his ear.
"Hint: There is abundant elemental energy ahead, which can help Greymon and Groudon awaken quickly."
