For a moment, the only sounds in the carriage were the sounds of people enjoying ice cream and the rumble of the train.
After all three ice creams were gone, Rice magically produced a bunch of cream puffs, puddings, and mini cream cakes.
Hermione & Daphne: Σ(っ°Д°;)っ
How many desserts did you bring? Did you rob a dessert shop?
Rice smiled a little embarrassedly at this: the desserts of this era were simply too wonderful for him to resist.
A thousand years ago, chefs could only use honey and lead sugar for flavoring, and the variety of desserts was far more limited than today. Any modern dessert would be considered a game-changer a thousand years ago, so it's no wonder that Rice was so addicted to all kinds of desserts.
Although they complained that eating too many sweets would lead to dental problems and weight gain, what young girl could resist the temptation of desserts? So, a moment later, everyone in the carriage had a dessert in their hand.
"Did you know? The boy who survived that ordeal is also attending Hogwarts this year."
The enjoyment of desserts is greatly diminished without casual conversation. Daphne understood this well, so she took the initiative to start a conversation and got the conversation flowing.
"Oh, it's Harry Potter! He's mentioned in so many books!" Hermione rattled off a list of books that mentioned the name "Harry Potter" and that she had read.
Just as the group was getting into a lively conversation, there was a knock on the carriage door.
When the door opened, a round-faced boy with red-rimmed eyes stood timidly outside, saying in a tearful voice, "I'm sorry, I wanted to ask, has anyone seen my toad?"
Daphne and Hermione both shook their heads. Hermione stood up from the stool and said she could go with the round-faced boy to find his toad.
toad?
Rice glanced up at the round-faced boy. He'd learned from his Hogwarts acceptance letter that the school now strictly limited the pets students could bring to school—only owls, toads, and cats were allowed. Perhaps they were scared off by students who kept dragons, hippogriffs, or giant spiders as pets?
However, even in that era of no taboos, very few students chose toads as pets.
This thing is ugly, its slimy body is disgusting to look at, and it doesn't have the wonders of other magical animals—it's not as functional as an owl, and it's far less cute than a cat. If students could choose an owl or a cat, they would never choose a toad.
However, toads possess an advantage that the other two types of pets lack: drug resistance. Many potion masters keep a toad to test their new potions. The mucus secreted by toads is also a common raw material for potions, and depending on the food they are fed, the mucus will exhibit different effects.
That's why Potions Masters really love toads.
"Maybe he's a boy who loves potions?" Rice thought to herself as she took out her wand.
Rice's love for potions was a plus, so he was willing to help the round-faced boy.
"A toad is flying in!"
An ugly-looking toad flew towards Rice. Even though he was well aware of the toad's benefits, a hint of disgust flashed in Rice's eyes as he watched the toad fly straight towards him.
He tapped his wand lightly, and the plump toad landed steadily in the boy's palm.
"Keep it safe," Rice said, looking at the plump, energetic toad. "This toad is really well-raised."
"Thank you!" The boy's eyes widened as he held the fat toad and left, thanking the boy profusely.
After the round-faced boy left, Daphne curled her lip, revealing a hint of disdain.
"I know that guy, his name is Neville Longbottom, he's not very bright."
"Longbottom?"
It's another familiar surname.
"That's right, that guy is actually a pureblood, it's unbelievable." After saying that, Daphne added after a moment's thought, "But it's normal, there aren't many pureblood wizards with normal minds these days."
This statement sounds like a generalization, but soon "well-meaning people" came forward to corroborate Daphne's claims.
Not long after Neville left, a boy with light blond hair, accompanied by two other tall, chubby boys, walked past Rice's private room, chatting and laughing.
Their voices were quite loud; their conversation could be faintly heard even through the door of the private room.
"Was the boy who survived also on the train?"
"That's right, I ran into him in Diagon Alley before. He was just an ordinary guy, but he was hanging out with that Hagrid, you know? You mean Rubeus Hagrid... wait?"
The sound stopped outside Rice's private room, and the next moment, the door to the room was opened.
"Daphne, you're here? Want to come with me to see the savior of the magical world?"
"No interest," Daphne replied outright.
She actually really wanted to see the legendary Harry Potter, but she didn't want to go with these three.
However, Malfoy's suggestion is good. We can sound out Rice later. If he's interested, we can go with him to find Potter.
"Fine," Malfoy said dejectedly, having been rebuffed. He turned his gaze to Rice and Hermione, who were in the same carriage. "And who are these two?"
Hermione Jane Granger.
"Les Chassalla Lint".
Two unfamiliar surnames.
Upon realizing they weren't pure-blooded, Malfoy didn't even bother to greet them.
He made no attempt to hide the disdain in his eyes as he looked down at Daphne and said, "For the sake of our two families' long-standing friendship, I'll give you a piece of advice: avoid associating with shady characters, lest the Greengrass family fall to the level of the Weasleys or Longbottoms in the future."
"Shut up, Draco Malfoy! Get out of here, your voice makes me sick!" Daphne's face flushed with anger.
Although they hadn't known each other for long, Daphne had already considered Rhys and Hermione her friends. She couldn't accept Malfoy humiliating her friends in front of her.
She racked her brains and yelled at Malfoy with the worst words she could think of.
"Malfoy?" Rice heard a surname he knew all too well.
However, unlike the Greengrass family, the reason he was so impressed by the Malfoy family was that the Malfoy ancestors had hired him as their wedding officiant.
As for her marriage partner, it might be a little embarrassing to say, but she is a wealthy French noblewoman who is a Muggle.
"That's right!" Seeing that Rice seemed to have heard of the Malfoy family's reputation, Draco immediately perked up. "Since you've heard of the Malfoy name, then you're not a Mudblood."
"You mean the Malfoy family, the ones who really like to marry into Muggle aristocrats?"
