Chapter 181 The Day Barrow Couldn't Remember
Chapter 181 The Day Barrow Couldn't Remember
Listening to Barrow's words, Rice sighed again.
Barrow, who had been looking down at Rice and taking in the changes in her expression, suddenly spoke up: "Teacher, you've changed."
"Oh?" Rice raised an eyebrow. "Does becoming a ghost cause a significant deterioration in eyesight? What are you talking about? I've become like a child, so my eyesight has definitely changed."
"It's not your appearance," Barrow shook his head, "it's your personality. Your personality has really changed a lot."
Rice thought for a moment, "Royna said the same thing, that it's because my body has become younger."
"Royna?" Upon hearing this name, Barrow had a bold association in mind.
"Yes, it's the Rowena you're thinking of."
Barrow's eyes widened immediately. "Professor Ravenclaw is still alive?!"
"She's dead, but like you, she chose to become a ghost."
Barrow the Blood was even more surprised: if Professor Ravenclaw had become a ghost, then why had he never seen her in a thousand years? Had she never been at Hogwarts?
Rice cleared up his confusion. He told Barrow that Ravenclaw had chosen to specially prepare himself and seal himself under the dungeon's seal, using his own corpse and his ghostly spirit to suppress the dark creatures within.
Now Barrow felt even more guilty.
If it weren't for his recklessness, Professor Ravenclaw wouldn't have had to work so hard, would he? Although the school was losing talent in his later years, he and Senior Helena were still able to support the school until the new generation grew up.
"Now that we've gotten this far, tell me what happened? About you and Helena," Rice got to the point.
He was very curious about what had happened that day that led two outstanding students to kill each other.
Barrow's spirit turned pale, even paler than a normal ghost, and his hands trembled with excitement.
Rice heard the sound of shackles rattling.
Barrow, the blood-soaked man, raised his left hand and pulled his blood-stained robe halfway off. Rice then saw the source of the clanking shackles: a black chain pierced through his right shoulder blade and ribs, and was welded to his right wrist.
Every time Barrow moved his right arm, every time he took a breath, excruciating pain followed him—if ghosts could feel pain. But considering that whoever attached the chains was capable of drilling holes and locking them in the ghost's spirit, they were certainly capable of making Barrow feel pain.
"Teacher, this is my sin, my sin for all eternity..." Barrow's tone suddenly turned mournful: "I found the blacksmith and asked him to chain me these chains, to make me suffer endless torment... Repentance, yes, repentance!"
"Because I killed her! This is my sin, my curse!" Barrow was extremely emotional, milky white tears sliding down his cheeks. "I loved her so much, but I... I committed a terrible crime..."
Compared to the agitated Barrow, Rice remained remarkably calm, standing still and observing Barrow's outburst with detached indifference. After a considerable while, Barrow's emotions finally began to stabilize.
"Thank you, teacher. I feel better after talking about it." Barrow showed a sense of relief.
Rice: Don't thank me yet.
"I hope you can describe what happened that day, the more details the better."
Rice made a very unreasonable request.
For Barrow the Blood Man, that day was the most painful and darkest day of his life, and today someone is forcing him to recall the details of that day, which is a very cruel request.
If it were anyone else, Barrow would definitely ignore him and intimidate the shameless scoundrel, but the person in front of him was his teacher, the one who opened the door to the magical world for him.
Even as a ghost, he couldn't refuse Rice's request.
Barrow's lips moved, but he didn't say anything, because he was surprised to find that he couldn't remember any details of that day.
Finally, his expression became blank: "Teacher, I don't remember. I only remember that I got a clue that Helena and her friends were living in seclusion in a forest in Albania. I found her there, and then... then we had a conflict, and Helena just died, died."
Barrow's emotions became unstable again, his soul trembled, and Rice noticed that when recalling what happened that day, a faint black mist would rise from Barrow's spirit.
A long time passed before Barrow calmed down again, and once he was calm, the black mist inside his body disappeared.
Rice narrowed his eyes.
"I killed myself with the same knife that killed Helena. After becoming a ghost, I managed to find the blacksmith and put myself in chains, which I deserved. I really can't remember the more specific details, teacher. If you really want to know the details of that day, you can ask Helena. She's also at Hogwarts."
"She's here too?!" Rice was surprised when she heard this.
"Yes, she became a ghost of Ravenclaw," Barrow said weakly. "Haven't you seen her?"
"My daily life is quite monotonous. It usually consists of three points: my private classroom, the library, and the common room, with occasional visits to other classrooms."
"No wonder, Helena likes to linger near the Ravenclaw Tower."
After reporting Helena's location, Barrow fell silent.
"Okay, I'll go find her."
"I won't go." Barrow's face was bitter. So much time had passed, yet he still couldn't face Helena.
Rice hesitated for a moment, then advised, "Go, come with me. Nearly a thousand years have passed; you have to find a way to face her. Otherwise, how much longer will you run away? Wait another thousand years?"
Barrow fell silent again.
The teacher is right. I've been hiding for nearly a thousand years; it's time to try and face Helena. At least now I have my teacher with me, isn't that right?
"There's one more thing," Rice said softly, "You're not necessarily the murderer of Helena. I need to see her to be sure." Rice added, a sentence that shocked Barrow.
"Not the murderer, me?" He had lost count of how many times he had been bewildered today: who else but him could have killed Helena?
"You acted very strangely when you recalled that day. I suspect someone tampered with your memory. It was a very sophisticated magic, so much so that even when you become a ghost, you can't recall the truth."
Blood Man Barrow: !!!
"So now you're willing to come with me to find Helena and find out what really happened that day?" Rice asked again.
