Chapter 208 Godric's Armor and Daphne Falling Asleep
"When you fight me, you won't be able to tell how much of a difference there is between us."
This is Rice's answer.
Is there really a difference for the average person between standing in front of a 10,000-meter-tall pillar and standing in front of a 100,000-meter-tall pillar? They are both just endless, towering wonders.
To truly grasp the difference in ability between the two, one must at least reach the level of a Capricorn from before.
Hearing Rice's words, Daphne couldn't help but feel a little disappointed: she was very eager to spar with Rice. After sparring with the Hogwarts students, Daphne's confidence had greatly inflated, and now she only wanted to know how big the gap was between her and Rice. It seemed Rice had no intention of sparring with her after all…
Daphne was overthinking it. Despite his complaints, Rice wasn't about to miss an opportunity to teach a child. Just as Rice was about to personally give Daphne a simple lesson, he caught a glimpse of a set of armor displayed in the corner of the hall.
Unlike the full plate armor commonly seen in castles, which conforms to the stereotypical image of Western European knight armor, this suit of armor is much simpler, consisting entirely of riveted iron rings, with a pointed nose helmet on the head. Its style clashes with the other armor in the castle, and its surface is covered with rust and grime, indicating that it has not been maintained for a long time.
Filch found the armor from some corner and brought it to the first-floor lobby, whether he wanted to refurbish it or just get rid of this old relic was unclear.
"Huh? How did this thing get here?" Rice was taken aback.
"Hmm?" Daphne followed Rice's gaze and also noticed the tattered chainmail.
"What a rare type of armor." Her attention was also drawn to the unique design of the chainmail.
"It's an armor design from the Norman Conquest period, meaning this armor is likely from the founder's era." Rice carefully chose his words, trying not to reveal any flaws.
Daphne: !
"Regarding this style of armor, I learned something when I was talking to the Blood Man Barrow: they were enchanted and can fight automatically when activated."
Daphne smiled slightly. "This time, it wasn't found in the wizard's letter?"
"The letter mentioned only a few words, and then I checked with Barrow to verify it, and what was said in the letter is true," Rice replied without batting an eye.
Unlike the stone statues that dot the castle and bear the responsibility of protecting the school, this armor was designed as a "teaching tool" and was used by the four founders for students to practice combat.
This armor, named after Gryffindor, the most skilled duelist among the four, was called the "Godric Armor".
The founders, with limited energy, couldn't provide high-quality combat guidance to every student, so they enchanted these Godric armors, giving them the ability to duel. Even better, the Godric armors could switch combat styles, ensuring a different experience for each student.
Rice strode over to the armor, took out his wand, and waved it over the surface of the armor. The rust and oil stains between the iron rings disappeared.
However, despite its completely renewed appearance, this armor still falls far short of the imposing presence of full plate armor.
Rice tapped various parts of the armor with his wand, quickly adjusting the armor to its proper position.
"The day you can defeat this armor, you can come and challenge me to a duel!" Rice pulled the armor over and placed it in front of him, telling Daphne the threshold for challenging him.
"Really?" Daphne's eyes lit up, and Astoria behind her also looked eager to try.
"Of course, you can team up with Astoria; if you win together, that counts too." Rice even lowered the difficulty of the test for Daphne, allowing her to team up for the challenge.
"No need, she'll only hold me back," Daphne said confidently, indicating she didn't need her sister's help at all. Of course, if her sister needed her help to qualify for the duel, she wouldn't hesitate to lend a hand.
Astoria narrowed her eyes: her sister seemed a bit asking for a beating.
"It's good to be confident." Rice said noncommittally. He had seen plenty of young wizards with such overflowing confidence, and Godric's Armor would teach them a lesson.
"How about we reschedule? You've been in so many fights today, you must be exhausted, right?"
Daphne waved her hand, indicating that it was possible right now.
"Alright." Rice waved his wand, and the armor came to life. A large amount of air suddenly rushed into the linen robe beneath the chainmail, puffing up the originally shriveled armor and making it bulge out, making it look like a burly man as tall as an iron tower from a distance.
The armor slowly descended from its stand, and with a whoosh, two red flames ignited inside the pointed nose helmet.
Daphne suddenly regretted refusing to team up with her sister—the armor was at least two meters tall, and with the flames between the nose cones, it looked quite terrifying.
Godric's armor doesn't care about the little wizard's feelings. Scared? Even if you're scared, you still have to come and duel.
"Bowing to it will start the duel," Rice whispered from the side.
Daphne swallowed hard: Up close, this armor is incredibly imposing!
She steeled herself and walked to the front of the armor, bowing to it. The armor returned the bow and immediately drew its longsword from its waist. The next second, flames roared from the sword.
Daphne: !
She instinctively unleashed an attack spell to block the armor's attack, but the armor simply raised the round shield strapped to its arm, easily deflecting Daphne's attack spell.
Immediately afterwards, the armored figure strode towards Daphne.
The behemoth, over two meters tall and covered in chainmail, charged at full speed, creating a strong visual impact. Daphne dared not be careless and immediately took to the air—as long as she flew high enough, this kind of melee armor wouldn't be able to hit her... right?
Faced with Daphne, who had almost reached the top of the corridor, the armor was indeed out of reach, and it halted its charge.
Just as Daphne was preparing to unleash a barrage of spells on the armor from her superior position, she saw the armor raise its flaming longsword.
Daphne: ?
The next moment, the longsword was swung fiercely, and a three-foot-long crescent-shaped flame was detached from the longsword and flew towards Daphne.
Daphne: !!!
She directly changed the flow of magic and instead released a protective spell in front of her.
As a result, when faced with the Flaming Crescent, Daphne's protective spell shattered after only a moment. The crescent-shaped slash struck her abdomen, slamming her heavily against the corridor ceiling.
Daphne's vision went black as she lost control of her own magic.
boom!
Daphne fell from the sky and crashed to the ground, where she lay motionless.
Astoria: (`Д)!!
Luckily I didn't go, otherwise it would have just meant another stab!
Seeing that Daphne seemed to have been knocked unconscious, Godric put away his longsword and silently returned to his shelf, restoring it to its original state.
