Chapter 310 Rice: Helga, how dare you use the magic I invented against me?

While Hufflepuff was showing Dumbledore her memories in the Headmaster's office, Rhys also received Hufflepuff's letter. He read the beginning but lost interest—what was the point of paying attention to prophecies about the Dark Lord Voldemort?

He had assumed that this infamous Dark Lord must be extraordinary, but after actually fighting him, he was greatly disappointed. The guy's strength did not seem to match his reputation.

Then he became less able to attract Rice's interest.

Moreover, judging from the content of the prophecy, it is nothing more than the Secret Order choosing to use Voldemort to deal with Hogwarts. When the time comes, they will simply deal with whatever comes their way.

He folded the letter and tucked it into his pocket, then turned his gaze to Daphne, who was sitting to the side studying the Infinite Expansion Spell.

The Infinite Expansion Charm is the dark magic spell that Hufflepuff showed the students with a rat in the last class. It originated from the Infinite Poison Mist Charm invented by Rice, and is a weakened version of that spell.

In Rice's opinion, Helga's spell was incredibly weak and easy to break: simply cast a petrification spell on the person under the spell and then wait for the spell's effect to wear off.

Besides using a petrification spell on oneself, one can also break the spell by taking a special potion, which can even counteract the higher-level Infinite Poison Mist spell. However, it seems that the recipe for the potion used to break the spell has most likely been lost.

"Aren't you nervous? Professor White is going to have her students come and take away her curse next class." Daphne couldn't help but ask after noticing that Rice seemed to have been doing nothing for a long time.

"Don't be nervous." Rice shook her head. "You don't really need to be nervous either, because Professor White will definitely use me as a guinea pig."

Daphne: ?

"Why?" She didn't understand why Rice was so certain—in terms of reputation, since Rice deliberately kept a low profile, her own reputation seemed to be a little bigger than his, right? Even if the professor needed a student to cover for him, shouldn't he have sent her up instead?

Rice's certainty stemmed from his trust in his old friend. Just like when Snape announced in Potions class that the students would be the ones to test the potions in the next class, it was practically a direct indication that Harry or Ron would be the ones to test them.

Please, he didn't believe Helga Hufflepuff could resist the temptation of openly using Dark Arts on him. If she could, he'd change his surname to Gryffindor immediately. Besides, using Dark Arts on students was indeed taboo, and using himself as an example was the best choice.

"No reason, believe it or not, I can bet you." Rice patted his stomach, glanced at the clock, and realized it was time for afternoon tea. He immediately felt the urge to go to the kitchen to get some desserts.

Upon hearing about the bet, Daphne's eyes lit up immediately.

She felt that with so many people in the class, the probability of Rice being chosen was extremely low. Even considering her reputation, she had a much higher chance of being chosen. Wouldn't she be guaranteed to win the bet? Besides, Rice was the one who rescued Professor White from the ruins, so they had some connection. Surely she wouldn't be the one chosen to get beaten up, right?

"What are we betting on?" she asked impatiently.

Rice: ?

There really are people who come up to offer help and warmth?

Rice rolled her eyes: "How about this, if I'm chosen, you'll be responsible for doing my homework from now on. If I'm not chosen, you won't need to do my homework anymore."

Daphne's eyes lit up immediately.

Although the bet sounds outrageous, like Rice getting Daphne's work for free, it's related to a previous agreement: Rice teaches Daphne, and Daphne does his homework for a few specific courses.

If Daphne wins the bet now, she'll essentially be set for life—she won't have to do Rice's homework and will still get Rice's instruction.

"Okay, it's a deal!" Daphne quickly agreed, then suddenly remembered something and quickly added, "But you have to promise that you won't go to Professor White and volunteer to become a test subject."

Rice glanced at her and assured her that she would never ask Professor White to use a curse on her.

"You didn't already have plans with her, did you?"

"No, not really." Rice rolled her eyes: This little girl has really gotten smarter...

Unfortunately, you're still too green!

He didn't need to give any prior notice; it all stemmed from the trust between him and "Professor White".

"I assure you, I will not use any means to increase the probability of me becoming a test subject."

With Rice's assurance, Daphne felt relieved and looked forward to tomorrow's Defense Against the Dark Arts.

The next day, Daphne excitedly brought Rice to the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom and sat down in an inconspicuous corner of the classroom.

Rice silently prepared herself.

Professor White arrived at the classroom early as usual.

"Come on, hand in your homework first." She collected the students' homework from the classroom, and then stood at the classroom door collecting and grading the homework at the same time.

By the time the school bell rang, Hufflepuff had already finished grading all the students' homework.

With a flick of her wand, the homework flew to its owner, but she kept Rice and Daphne's homework.

"Mr. Lint, did you write this paper yourself?" Hufflepuff picked up the roll of parchment with Rice's name on it and called Rice over.

Daphne: ?!

She clearly altered her handwriting, so how could it have been exposed?

"I wrote it," Rice said without batting an eye.

Hufflepuff: Stare~

Rice: I'll face it calmly. Anyway, even if Gryffindor came today, I'd still be the one writing this paper—isn't it normal for a teacher to list the author's name on a student's paper?

Hufflepuff suddenly realized that he really couldn't do anything about Salazar, that disrespectful old man.

She believed that even if she asked him about the content of his thesis, he could answer fluently; after all, it was the magic he had invented.

Helga's gaze swept over Daphne's pale face beside him, and he couldn't help but curse Salazar in his heart for being so old and forcing a young girl to do his homework. How shameless!

But it doesn't matter, I have another way to deal with this old viper.

"Alright, Mr. Lint, please come up to the podium. As I mentioned in the last class, I was going to pick a student to try and resist my spell, and congratulations, you've been chosen."

Daphne's breath hitched, and she almost fainted.

Oh no, it's all over! The amount of homework will practically double!

Rice glanced at Hufflepuff.

Helga, that's enough! How dare you use the magic I invented against me?!

He walked calmly onto the podium under the watchful eyes of the students below.
