Chapter 66 Harry, Carried Away by a Big Shot

"Books in the restricted area require the professor's written permission to be opened, otherwise an alarm will be triggered. I thought that was common sense," Daphne said quietly.

Harry fell silent.

Is this really common sense? Why has no one ever told me this?

Then Harry thought about which classmates he usually played with, and he immediately felt relieved.

Neither Ron nor Fred, nor George, nor even Percy had the habit of frequenting the library, so it's normal that they didn't know some basic library facts.

Daphne sighed. She had been really tricked by Harry; she had actually broken out in a sweat in the middle of winter.

Just then, a low, muffled conversation came from afar.

"Professor, I'm certain that someone just broke into the restricted section of the library."

"I know, but it doesn't matter."

Oh no, Filch is catching up! And judging from his voice, Snape is with him too!

Harry and Daphne's expressions changed simultaneously.

Harry instinctively turned around, looking at the door and the lock on it, and an idea popped into his head.

"Alaho—"

Daphne reacted quickly and pressed his wand down in an instant.

"Is your brain even useful?!" Daphne felt like she was about to faint from anger at the idiot next to her.

Putting aside the potential dangers behind the door, what happens to the lock on the outside door after you go in? Unless Filch and Snape are both blind, they'd have to be able to keep it a secret.

"Is your invisibility cloak something you pay for every time you use? Put it on quickly!" She hurriedly picked up Harry's invisibility cloak from the ground, and the two of them wrapped it around themselves.

Less than ten seconds after the two put on their cloaks, Filch appeared with Professor Snape.

Filch rushed to the locked door and, as if to boast, loudly told Snape, "The lock is secure, Professor, you can rest assured!"

Daphne and Harry huddled together in the corner, holding their breath, afraid that their loud breathing would alert them to their presence.

Snape looked at the locked door and nodded.

The three-headed dog behind the door was a very good guard; even he could not get past it to get under the trapdoor.

"It seems I was overthinking it, but I really think we should add a spell to the lock so that it makes a sharp popping sound or something when it's opened. I don't understand why Professor Dumbledore rejected my suggestion."

"He may have his reasons."

The two left.

Only when the footsteps of the two Snapes and Filch could no longer be heard did the two lift the Invisibility Cloak from their heads, and Harry felt his back was soaked with sweat.

"Thank goodness you didn't open the lock rashly, or we'd both be dead." Daphne was genuinely thankful she had stopped Harry's foolish move; otherwise, they would have been locked in a room with Cerberus. Compared to Cerberus, Snape didn't seem so scary after all.

It was then that Harry realized they were on the fourth floor, in that forbidden corridor, and that he and Daphne had almost broken Dumbledore's rule.

"Yeah, Snape will definitely find out." Harry was also a little scared, but thankfully Daphne was calm enough.

Seeing that Harry seemed completely oblivious to the seriousness of the problem, Daphne decided to open his eyes.

"So you've never been curious about what's behind that door?"

Harry wasn't particularly interested at first, but Daphne's question suddenly piqued his interest.

"What is it?"

"Want to open the door and take a look?" Daphne felt that with the defensive spell attached to the necklace, it would be more than enough to block one of Cerberus's attacks. They could quickly take a look and then close the door.

Of course, her biggest confidence came from the fact that Cerberus was the guard here, and guards wouldn't leave their assigned targets without permission. So, if things went wrong, the two of them could simply run away. Daphne was certain, based on the information she had gathered, that a trained Cerberus wouldn't rush out of the house to chase them.

Harry swallowed hard; he admitted he was tempted.

After the two reached an agreement, Daphne led Harry to the door. Just as she was about to use her wand to unlock the door, she suddenly had a flash of inspiration.

"Harry, shall we put on the Invisibility Cloak?" she suggested.

Although Harry didn't quite understand Daphne's intentions, he trusted her and draped the Invisibility Cloak over the two of them.

Daphne pressed her wand against the keyhole, and a surge of magic flowed out, causing the latch to click open.

The door slowly opened, and the three-headed dog behind it instantly became alert. Its three large noses twitched rapidly, and its six small eyes darted around, looking towards where Harry and Daphne were standing. It sensed someone standing outside the door, but it couldn't see that person. For the first time in its life, the three-headed dog was so confused.

Finally, remembering its owner's instructions, it decided to remain still and never leave the area.

Of course, if that smell gets too close, it will attack without hesitation, even if the place looks empty.

Harry was stunned by what he saw: a three-headed dog filled the space from ceiling to floor, drool dripping from its yellowed teeth like sticky ropes onto the floor. Its six eyes were fixed on the direction they were standing, its gaze almost piercing their chests.

Harry now even felt like kneeling down before Daphne—she had truly saved his life.

Daphne gently closed the wooden door and locked it again, during which time the three-headed dog remained motionless.

For the three-headed dog, the best option was for the strange creature outside to leave sensibly; it didn't want any trouble and only wanted to complete the task left by its master.

"Now you know what's inside, right?" Daphne looked at Harry with great pride, the shocked expression on his face making her extremely happy.

More importantly, she had just observed that the three-headed dog was standing on a trapdoor. Clearly, the secret Rice wanted her to investigate lay beneath that trapdoor.

"So why did Dumbledore keep this thing in the school?!" Harry couldn't help but ask the only intelligent being around him after he came to his senses.

Daphne was silent for a moment, then couldn't suppress her urge to complain any longer: "Didn't you see what it was standing on? It was standing on a trapdoor; it was obviously guarding something."

She was convinced that Harry's brain was useless, and his eyes were useless too!

Having spent so much time with Rice, Daphne has become less able to accept the dullness of the other young wizards.

"Guard the things... Oh!" Harry's eyebrows twitched.

His change in expression did not escape Daphne's notice; she immediately sensed a clue.

"You know what's hidden in there, don't you?" she asked, staring intently into Harry's eyes.
