Chapter 295 A Single Net Sweep
Chapter 295 Sweeping Them All in One Wrap
The surveillance footage clearly shows three black men sneaking into the house through the back door, shooting Daisy and John. Hearing the commotion at the front door, they escaped through the back door and drove away in a Toyota.
The Toyota's license plate number was also clearly captured in the photo.
The death of his beloved dog enraged Marcus. He grabbed a large jacket, put it over his tactical vest, and said to Kane and Martin, "Please wait for the LAPD. I'll be right back. They shouldn't be far."
Chad was the first to speak: "Dude, calm down!"
Martin grabbed Marcus's arm and, in a seemingly admonitory tone, spoke the truth: "You have to finish what you start. You told me about your experiences in Afghanistan, and I've already contacted suitable authors to prepare for the follow-up memoirs and film adaptations. Are you planning to make me go to the prison every day to discuss the project with you?"
These words, which sounded very businessman-like at first glance, warmed Marcus's heart. His voice was deep and strong: "Martin, thank you for your concern, I won't act impulsively. But they killed my dog, I absolutely cannot let them get away with it, I must catch them myself!"
Chad was worried: "I'll go with you."
The two hurriedly walked out.
"For Daisy!" Marcus glanced back at the bodies of his beloved dogs before leaving, then patted his chest. "For John!"
This scene made Martin feel as if he were seeing a real-life version of John Wick.
Was it because of the dog's relentless pursuit?
He couldn't help but think of the movie he planned to discuss with Chad once he was more mature and capable.
Unexpectedly, a similar situation happened right before my eyes.
One man, one dog, and one gun!
You want my dog's life? I'll take yours!
They might even kill the murderer's entire family and wipe out the gang they belong to.
For Martin, the John Wick series is unlike those movies he's watched over a decade ago, some of which he's forgotten even in English. He saw the fourth movie before the Big Balloon suffocated, so his memory of it is relatively clear.
Marcus chases after four bastards for his beloved dog.
Martin recognized the veteran's value not only in his memoir, so he nodded to Old Brooks and followed him.
Seeing that everyone had left, Kane quickly called out, "You're leaving me here?"
Martin took out his wallet, pulled out the card the LAPD had given him, and tossed it to Kane: "The PD's here. Show this to them."
Kane recognized the thing and replied, "Be careful."
Martin got out of the car and into his Escalade, and Bruce immediately sped up to catch up with Marcus's pickup truck.
The two cars turned to the back gate, where there was a one-way street leading directly out of the community.
The pickup truck in front was accelerating, and it wasn't difficult for Bruce to follow.
Martin checked his pistol and, seeing the scenery rushing past the car window, had the illusion of chasing a murderer.
The two cars quickly drove out of the community.
Originally, Martin had little hope of finding the killer; a normal person in this situation would have left as quickly as possible.
Perhaps the brain circuits of Black people are different from those of normal people, or perhaps they simply don't have brains at all.
Just outside the community, Martin spotted a Toyota driving slowly south ahead.
The four of them had seen the car and its license plate number on the surveillance footage; it was impossible for them to have mistaken it.
Martin didn't want to see a gunfight in the street, and he didn't want Marcus to go to jail. He immediately took out his phone, dialed Chad's number, and said, "Tell Marcus not to act rashly. Follow them and find their hideout!"
He exploited Marcus's psychology, saying deliberately, "Black people like to stick together, especially these scumbags. They love forming gangs. They definitely have accomplices. Let's follow them, find their hideout, and wipe them all out. That's the only way to truly avenge Daisy and John!"
Chad had his phone on speakerphone, so Marcus could hear him clearly. He said, "Old Brooks, let's cross-track."
Bruce replied, "No problem, you come with me first, I'll let you know in advance when I'm going up."
Marcus and Bruce took turns following, and the black man in the car in front didn't even notice that there was a tail behind them.
Arriving near a warehouse by a small pier close to Santa Monica's beach, the Toyota parked on the side of the road, and four black men went inside.
Bruce stopped the car a good distance away.
Martin immediately called McLean of the LAPD.
Seeing Chad and Marcus get out of the pickup truck, Martin and Bruce also got out of the Cadillac.
Marcus pulled out a pair of military binoculars and looked at the warehouse in the distance.
Seeing that he had calmed down a bit, Bruce said, "They're just a bunch of brainless savages. It's not worth fighting them head-on. Martin has already called the police, and they'll be here soon. Once they're inside, there are plenty of other ways to deal with them..."
Marcus nodded. "I won't do anything reckless." He glanced at Martin; given Martin's help, he didn't want to cause him any major trouble. "Let's resolve this through proper channels first."
Martin patted his arm: "Wait a minute, the LAPD will be here soon."
Bruce took Marcus's binoculars and looked carefully over there. He saw that there were more than just the four black men and said, "The chances of a black gang like this in Los Angeles not being involved in drugs are so small as to be negligible."
Martin, not wanting to attract attention, returned to his car.
Chad whispered to Marcus, "You haven't been back from Afghanistan long. You need to adjust to the way things are done back home. Los Angeles isn't all about fighting and killing."
Marcus saw a large convoy of police cars approaching in the distance: "There are also human relationships involved."
Chad gave a thumbs up: "Once you understand this, navigating Hollywood will be a lot easier."
As Los Angeles’s largest violent organization arrived, the seven or eight black men in the warehouse were all arrested without any resistance.
Those black people were somewhat shrewd; they probably felt they hadn't committed a major crime, and if they didn't resist, they'd only be in jail for a few months, maybe a year or two at most, and then they'd come out and go back to having fun.
If they resisted, given their dark skin, their magazines would definitely be emptied.
Martin made a few more phone calls, then told Marcus, "A large quantity of illegal drugs were found at the scene; they won't be out anytime soon."
LAPD guarantees that it will handle the matter impartially.
Marcus said, "I understand. Thank you, Martin, for giving me the opportunity to..."
Martin raised his hand to interrupt him: "What happens next is none of my business."
Marcus understood that the other party was a public figure, so he immediately nodded and remembered the favor.
As for what he did next, he was engaged in counter-terrorism in Afghanistan.
Marcus also has many comrades in Los Angeles.
The four men drove off together in two cars and returned to Marcus's residence.
It wasn't a good day to discuss anything else, so Martin, Chad, and Bruce quickly took their leave, while Kane stayed behind to help Marcus with the funeral arrangements for the two Labradors.
Because it involves a case of animal cruelty, it needs to be frozen temporarily.
Kane consulted a professional organization for this matter.
After cleaning the house, Kane noticed that Marcus was in low spirits and said, "They don't want to see you continuing to be depressed in heaven either."
Marcus brought over two bottles of beer and gave one to Kane: "I'll pick myself up tomorrow; I have a new goal."
Kane said, "This is indeed a good opportunity."
Marcus opened his beer bottle on the doorframe and said, "Martin's a good guy."
Kane still offered a reminder: "He's a really good person, one of the kind of Hollywood stars who's very clear about right and wrong, but the fact that he did this shows that your experience was valuable."
Marcus, having experienced life and death, has a clear understanding of things: "Worthless people will be thrown into the trash heap wherever they go, just like the weak who are eliminated by the army."
Kane said, "Stay on your way."
Marcus nodded seriously.
…………
Meanwhile, Martin, Bruce, and Chad found a place to have lunch.
Bruce thoroughly enjoyed the delicious Brazilian barbecue.
Chad's knife and fork fell very slowly, clearly indicating that he was considering the problem.
Martin took a sip of lemonade and said, "Marcus, Daisy, and John remind me of The Hills Have Eyes."
Bruce ignored all of that and continued eating.
Chad looked up at Martin.
Martin continued, "If we hadn't happened to run into them, Marcus, being an unusual individual with just a gun and a dog, would have had a lot of experience and could have easily taken down those scum if he had launched a sneak attack."
Bruce added, "Marcus could take them down in a head-on confrontation with those guys."
"You're an expert in action scene design," Martin asked Chad directly. "Would this scene be feasible to adapt into an action movie?"
Chad had been pondering these thoughts, and upon hearing Martin's words, his ideas gradually became clearer: "A retired military operations expert, back home with only his dog as companion, some bastards break into his house and kill his dog, and he picks up the gun he had long since laid down to avenge his dog?"
He then shook his head: "That would be an unconventional Rambo, which isn't appropriate."
Martin took a sip of lemonade: "You could change it to an assassin, like Wesley, who chose to leave the assassin industry to marry the person he loved, only to have his wife die of a terminal illness, leaving behind his beloved dog as his companion. In that case, the dog would have a very special meaning for him, and his subsequent outburst would be more convincing."
Chad pondered for a moment and said, "That makes sense! The assassin profession is very special; once you enter, it's very difficult to leave. His past will inevitably haunt him, and even assassin organizations won't let him off easily. The person who killed his dog could be framed as a powerful assassin organization..."
"Perhaps we could design it like an alliance of multiple assassin organizations?" Martin briefly described the concepts of the Continental Hotel and the high table.
Chad simply took a napkin and carefully wrote down everything he and Martin had discussed.
Bruce suddenly interjected: "If you're going to make an action movie, I think it's better to keep it concise and to the point. I've been going online a lot lately and I've noticed that netizens are really annoyed by those action scenes that are verbose and drawn-out, especially those villains who die because they talk too much."
Martin stated directly, "Wanted was a huge success, with its crisp, cool, and exhilarating action sequences receiving the most praise. Why don't we make an action movie that's even cooler and more exciting than Wanted?"
He was speaking from his own experience: "There wasn't much or overly complicated emotional exchange, let alone any discussion of humanity or philosophical ideas with the assassin. Why the hell would I think about these things when I'm already an assassin? Am I crazy?"
Chad grasped Martin's intention: "To maximize the male lead's charm, simply to kill his way through from beginning to end?"
Martin said, "Think it over carefully."
Before Martin could finish speaking, Chad said, "I'll come up with an outline as a project to sign with the studio."
