Chapter 319 Harvey's Wife

There was no one else in the room. Harvey Weinstein sat and watched TV for a while; the entertainment channel was broadcasting the premiere of "The Departed."

Martin Davis made a unique move by leading a cow down the red carpet.

The audience of moviegoers and reporters were in an uproar.

"Interesting." Harvey had never seen a premiere like this before: "This guy's got real talent."

Unfortunately, he didn't get along with this person, and recently the Weinstein Company even suffered a loss.

Because of Heath Ledger's situation, filming for "I'm Not There" was delayed by nearly ten days compared to the original schedule, and the cost increased every day the production was delayed.

A knock sounded at the door, Harvey went to knock, and Matt Damon entered the room.

Harvey asked, "Shouldn't you be attending the film festival in Toronto?"

Matt Damon glanced at the premiere on TV and said, "The Departed crew didn't seem to care much about me, and they didn't force me to participate in the promotions. I'll come back and rest for two days, and then I'll go to London later."

Harvey asked directly, "Won't they help you get an Oscar nomination?"

"The Best Supporting Actor nomination was reserved for Martin Davis, so..." Matt Damon shrugged.

Harvey chuckled: "Oscar for Best Supporting Actor? Martin Davis has a lot of ideas." His smile deepened: "Having ideas is a good thing."

Matt Damon said, "I heard he had a falling out with your crew in New York."

Harvey didn't seem to care much: "It cost me hundreds of thousands of dollars."

Matt Damon seemed to be complimenting him: "The Oscars are your show."

Harvey thought of Pitt, who had been complaining to him about Martin, and said, "Rose McGowan was a bit of a handful after filming Planet Terror."

Matt Damon understood: "I'll go warn her."

Harvey's phone rang; it was his wife, Georgina Chapman, calling. He answered it from the side: "Honey, is Toronto fun?"

Georgina said, "That's interesting, aren't you coming over?"

Harvey said, "I have a lot of things to do here, so I won't be going."

After finishing the call, Harvey chatted with Damon for a few more minutes before leaving the hotel with him.

In the hotel lobby, after seeing the two leave, the three members of the World News newspaper immediately gathered together.

Lukaku said softly, "We've found a long-term room for Harvey. Now let's figure something out."

Courtois cracked his neck and said, "Start with the hotel, begin by listening to the phone calls in the rooms."

Hazard cautioned, "This isn't New York; we're not on our own turf. We have to be careful."

The three of them immediately took action.

Meanwhile, the Four Seasons Hotel Toronto.

Martin returned from a promotional interview. Scorsese was treating everyone to dinner that night, so he didn't bother going upstairs again. Instead, he went to the lounge, found an empty spot, and sat down to wait.

At the next table to his left sat a brown-haired woman, whose striking appearance drew Martin's attention.

The other person was around thirty years old, tall, and had a figure and demeanor very much like a model.

The man also turned to look at Martin.

The two discovered each other at the same time and became acquainted.

Martin took the initiative to greet her: "Hello, Georgina."

Georgina and Kate Winslet, longtime friends: "Hi Martin, I didn't expect to run into you here."

Martin immediately brought up a mutual friend: "A while ago, when Kate and I were filming in London, Kate specifically mentioned you, saying that all her public outfits were designed by you, which made her look much better."

Georgina laughed, "Actually, it was Kate who gave me the opportunity to sponsor her because of our sisterly bond."

Martin asked, "I remember your Marchesa brand opened a design store in Los Angeles. Could you give me your contact information? I'll bring my friends to visit it later."

Georgina's clothing brand targets the high-end market, so she immediately pulled out a personal business card and handed it to Martin.

Similarly, Martin also gave her his personal business card.

Georgina knew her husband had some prejudice against Martin, but she had her own social circle and didn't concern herself with Hollywood feuds; she was focused on creating a new luxury clothing brand.

The sound of high heels hitting the ground came from the side. Martin turned around and saw Cate Blanchett walking over.

Georgina waved gently to Martin: "I should go now."

Martin stood up to see him off: "Goodbye."

Georgina went over, took Blanchett's arm, and they walked together toward the hotel entrance.

Blanchett was wearing a Marchesa gown from Georgina's brand today. After walking a little further away, she whispered, "Martin Davis is a treacherous man. Be careful when dealing with him."

But Georgina heard a completely different story about Martin from her friend Kate. She smiled and dismissed it, saying, "He's not going to eat me, is he?"

Just as Blanchett was about to speak again, the hotel's automatic doors opened, and Jack Nicholson, wearing brown sunglasses, walked in.

Upon seeing this old scoundrel, Blanchett immediately recalled what had happened at Pinewood Studios in England.

Even though she was well-mannered, she couldn't help but feel embarrassed and angry at the time.

Blanchett said coldly, "Shameless!"

Who is Nicholson? He was a jerk when he was young, was on par with Marlon Brando in middle age, and became the leader of the trio of jerks in his old age.

He stopped, took off his sunglasses, looked at Blanchett, and asked seriously, "Is your bruised and swollen butt all better? Want to do it again? Here is fine too, I don't mind."

As soon as he said that, everyone around looked over, their faces full of gossip.

Nicholson knew it was about the Pinewood Studios firecrackers scandal, and although he was being misunderstood, he didn't care at all.

As the leader of the trio, taking the blame for his underlings was nothing. He declared loudly, "I love Blanchett. Last time in England, I accidentally... well, you know... in her butt..."

Although actors may have skin as thick as a city wall, Blanchett was no match for Nicholson and snapped, "Shut up, you old bastard!"

Nicholson laughed and said, "My room is number 9 on the 41st floor. You're welcome to come anytime tonight."

Georgina wanted to laugh, but she couldn't. She struggled to hold it in, so she tugged at Blanchett and whispered, "Stop fooling around. Let's hurry up and go. Don't forget you have to attend the premiere of 'Babel'."

Blanchett ignored Nicholson and walked forward with a tense face. When she reached the automatic door, she saw Leonardo watching the commotion with great interest.

The two had worked together a few years ago, and although they weren't exactly close, they were fairly familiar with each other. She said, "You guys are a bunch of bastards."

Leonardo shrugged and said nothing.

That old bastard Nicholson wasn't done yet. He turned around and shouted, "I'll definitely be here tonight. Don't worry, I'll be gentle!"

Blanchett was getting into the car when she nearly hit her head on the roof.

Leonardo went over, put his arm around him, and walked towards Martin: "You really have no shame?"

Nicholson retorted nonchalantly, "You and Martin are so young, and you've already thrown away all pretense of dignity. I'm over 60, what use is this dignity to me?"

Martin waved: "Over here."

The two people came over, pulled out chairs, and sat down.

Nicholson asked, "Am I loyal enough to take the blame for you guys? I heard that Bale took two weeks off before returning to the set of The Prestige."

Martin continued, "Therefore, Leo and I wholeheartedly support you as the leader."

Leonardo replied, "I got out of the car just now and chatted with someone outside. I noticed you were having a great time talking to Georgina Chapman."

Nicholson asked, "Harvey Weinstein's wife?"

"That's right, it's her." Leonardo scrutinized Martin, deliberately saying, "As expected, you prefer beautiful women around thirty years old."

Nicholson added, "Harvey wanted to get you, and then you set your sights on Harvey's wife? Impressive, Martin. Even I, this old bastard, have to admire you. You truly are the one in our trio who's best at coming up with the worst ideas."

Martin looked completely innocent: "I just happened to run into someone and chatted with them for a bit, how did it all become so distorted in your mouths?"

Leonardo didn't mince words and said to Nicholson, "I'm planning to open a bet, $1000, on Martin definitely getting involved with Harvey's wife."

Nicholson said, "I'm also betting that Martin will hook up with Georgina."

Martin was furious: "I bet $2000, absolutely not!" He thought for a moment, then realized something was amiss and said, "There has to be a time limit. We can't wait twenty years to get our bets back, can we?"

"Two years is the limit!" Leonardo said. "Man, you're doomed!"

Nicholson felt he saw through everything: "His addition of a time limit clearly showed a lack of confidence."

Martin, not wanting to continue, quickly changed the subject.

The three discussed the premiere of "Babel" that night, starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett, which is considered one of "The Departed's" biggest competitors during awards season.

Around seven o'clock, Scorsese called, and the three of them went up to the second-floor restaurant to have dinner with the director.

After The Departed, regardless of his Oscar success or failure, Scorsese plans to take a two-year break and will not make a new film until 2009 at the earliest.

Five marriages have placed a heavy financial burden on Scorsese, but the continuous stream of films over the years has brought him enough income to allow him to take a break and catch his breath.

Therefore, marriage is also a source of inspiration for artists' creations.

The more divorces artists have, the more motivated they become.

Scorsese needs a break, Martin is fine with it, but Leonardo will be affected to some extent, as he has mainly worked with Scorsese in recent years.
