Chapter 559 Missing

"What? Domestic violence? They almost beat someone to death?"

When the police officers arrived at his door, Harvey vehemently denied it: "No, absolutely not! I didn't..."

Upstairs, Georgina, tears streaming down her face, ran downstairs: "You're finally here! You're finally here! Please save me, I'm being beaten to death!"

The slap mark on her face was clearly visible, and the bluish-purple bruises on her arms were shocking.

Harvey turned to look at Georgina, his face filled with disbelief.

Regardless of whether she continues to be married to Harvey or makes other plans, Georgina believes that calling the police is absolutely necessary to protect her interests.

The officer noticed the injury on Georgina's face.

Before Harvey could react, Georgina hid behind the officer, her voice trembling with tears, "I demand a medical examination! Take me away from here quickly! If you don't leave, I'll be beaten to death! I really will be beaten to death! Officer, he's committing a crime!"

When it involves wealthy and famous people, things become particularly complicated. After examining Georgina's injuries, the officer said, "I'm sorry, Mr. Weinstein, according to normal procedure, you and Ms. Chapman need to come back with us."

There's a boss when I go back.

Harvey stared intently at Georgina, like a ferocious beast ready to devour her.

The officer stepped between the two men and said, "Mr. Weinstein, please don't make things difficult for us!"

"Let me make a call first." Harvey called his lawyer.

Georgina notified her lawyer as soon as she came downstairs.

Two LAPD officers escorted the two men out of their home and back to the police station.

Lombardo was at a loss for what to do.

When Georgina arrived at the Beverly Precinct, her lawyer was already waiting for her.

Women can be terrifying when they act up, and Georgina did it intentionally. She immediately accused Harvey of intentional assault, and presented photos and videos as evidence, demanding that the police take stricter measures against Harvey to prevent him from colluding with others.

The lawyer followed up immediately upon the client's request.

The head of the Beverly Hills Police Department received a call, briefly inquired about the details, and, since it involved violence, followed normal procedures and ordered the police to temporarily detain Harvey for 24 hours.

Harvey's phone and other belongings were also temporarily confiscated.

…………

Robert Rodriguez rushed to Quentin's neighbor's house and asked, "What should we do?"

Quentin didn't want to get involved, but he was someone Harvey had personally promoted, and the situation was still unclear. He said, "I'll call Harvey first."

He dialed the mobile number, but no one answered.

When I called the landline again, the maid said she wasn't home.

Quentin made several calls over half an hour, but couldn't get through. He said, "Robert, let's not do anything for now and see how things go."

Rodriguez, also unwilling to get involved, said, "Let's wait and see."

Quentin said, "Let's go get some drinks."

At his home in Brentwood, Matt Damon is frantically making phone calls.

Without Harvey, he couldn't have brought back his good buddy Ben Wallace on his own.

Damon called the editor-in-chief of a media outlet he knew and said, "The content about Harvey on your website is seriously inaccurate. It was fabricated. You should have thoroughly verified the information before publishing it, instead of just publishing it casually like this. You are harming an outstanding film artist and entrepreneur. This is irresponsible behavior."

They clearly expressed their refusal.

Damon raised his voice: "If you do that, you'll lose even more. All the inside information about me, the Weinstein Company, and even more of the production crews will be gone forever."

Ben Affleck used to apply similar pressure tactics, while Matt Damon didn't do it as often. But now that Ben Affleck lacks persuasiveness, only he can do it himself.

In just one hour, Damon made more than a dozen phone calls, and some media outlets, under pressure from him, temporarily agreed to delete news about Harvey.

But many more media outlets are reprinting it frantically.

Driving hype and creating eye-catching effects has been a consistent and skillful practice for Martin's two teams, led by Emily and Jessica, over the past few years.

By mid-afternoon when we arrived in Los Angeles, the related news had already climbed to the top of Google's trending searches!

…………

San Francisco, City Hall.

Jennifer Sybil Newsom parked her car and walked toward the entrance of the city hall.

As usual, large crowds of protesters gathered near the city hall.

No matter what the policy is, there will always be people who are dissatisfied. Many people express their dissatisfaction in a simple and direct way, such as by bringing posters and banners to the city hall to protest.

This round of truck drivers' association protests may have lasted too long; the protesters are listless and chatting idly together.

The experienced drivers generally had loud voices, and their vulgar chatter kept reaching Jennifer's ears.

Jennifer was initially indifferent and walked straight towards the city hall.

Suddenly, a name reached her ears—Harvey Weinstein!

"Hollywood's got some funny stuff to watch now." A burly truck driver with a Blackberry phone showed it to the people next to him: "TMZ released a video of Harvey Weinstein forcing actresses. It's real footage! Weinstein is fucking outrageous. He's so tall and fat, and he just piles on top of people like that, doesn't he worry about breaking their bones...?"

An ordinary person was just watching the spectacle, when another person came over and exclaimed, "It really is Harvey Weinstein! I've seen him in the newspapers and on TV; he's incredibly strong!"

The fat truck driver said, "Isn't Harvey Weinstein a movie studio boss? What kind of actress can't he have his way with? Why would he do this?"

Another person chimed in, "Maybe he likes this kind of thing; celebrities always have some peculiar tastes."

These words reached Jennifer's ears. She paused slightly, said nothing, and quickly left.

Once Jennifer entered the city hall, the large driver said to his companion, "I'm going to the restroom."

He moved to a nearby roadside and said to an ordinary-looking man, "I did as you said."

The man had seen everything, and he took out an envelope and handed it to him: "This is the final payment."

The chubby driver then opened the phone, glanced at it, and prepared to return it.

The man waved his hand casually: "It's yours."

Jennifer entered the city hall, tilted her head back to avoid her tears ruining her eyeshadow.

What she just heard reminded her of 2005, when she was just an unknown actress who had only played minor roles in a few films, but then she met Harvey Weinstein.

Jennifer went to the nearby lounge, turned on the lounge's computer, and logged onto the TMZ website.

Harvey Weinstein's news and videos were exceptionally eye-catching, and when Jennifer saw the actresses in them, she couldn't help but think of herself back then.

But she is no longer a minor actress; she is now a mother of several children.

Previously, she could only endure it for the sake of her husband's election campaign.

Now, it's time to settle this score!

Jennifer picked up her phone and dialed her husband's number: "Could you come over for a minute?"

Gavin arrived quickly: "Honey, what's wrong?"

Jennifer pointed to the computer screen: "Do you remember? I told you that I had a bad experience, and you kept asking me who I was. I never told you because I was worried that he would affect your career."

Gavin recognized him: "Harvey Weinstein?"

"It's him! Someone exposed him, someone rushed out first!" Jennifer closed her eyes briefly and said in a low voice, "In 2005, he used the excuse of discussing my acting career to lure me to the Four Seasons Hotel and rape me!"

She confronted the pain head-on: "He could have ruined my career. After it happened, I didn't call the police or tell anyone else."

"This isn't your fault, he should pay for it!" Gavin comforted his wife first, then picked up the phone and dialed a number: "It's me, Gavin. There's a news video about Harvey Weinstein on the TMZ homepage. Contact the media outlets that support us and ask them to share it. Don't bring up any political connections with me; I don't care about that now. Push hard and create public opinion!"

Seeing her husband hang up the phone, Jennifer said, "Thank you, thank you for everything you've done for me. I heard he has supporters in Washington..."

Gavin said with unusual seriousness, "You must get a fair and just result!"

He sensed something Jennifer couldn't detect—perhaps a golden opportunity to boost his own fame.

…………

Burbank, Davis Studio foyer.

A girl handed Martin a box and said, "Georgina Chapman asked me to give this to you. She said if you can't reach her by 8 p.m., you should find a way to rescue her."

Martin took it and said, "I understand."

The girl then left.

Martin took his things back upstairs, leaving only Thomas and Bruce in the office.

He took the storage disk out of the box, connected it to his computer, and played the video on it.

That's a video of Harvey abusing Georgina, and also a recording of Georgina calling the police.

Thomas asked, "Harvey's in the police station?"

"He's been temporarily detained by the LAPD for alleged assault," Martin said slowly. "I had a brief conversation with McLean. The LAPD will detain Harvey for no more than 24 hours, keeping this core member of the gang temporarily out of contact. Besides, this is a domestic violence case between husband and wife, so it's not appropriate for others to interfere rashly."

Bruce added, "Tonight, some television news will definitely follow up. WarnerMedia and Fox News have already confirmed they will report on it, and once the public opinion takes hold, most newspapers across the country will inevitably report on it tomorrow."

Thomas reminded him, "You've forgotten that The Weinstein Company has another key figure, Harvey's brother, Bob Weinstein."

Martin said, "Brothers aren't always of one mind..."

…………

In Washington, after a long chat with Erica and Kelly Gray, Hillary drove straight home.

She was very satisfied with the outcome of the interview.

In the car, the assistant sitting in the passenger seat reminded her, "Madam, something happened today. Many online media outlets are reporting wildly about Harvey Weinstein and the actress."

"Isn't this normal in Hollywood?" Hillary didn't care; the political world was even more elaborate than Hollywood.

The assistant handed over the phone: "It was about him forcing the actress."

Seraphim took the phone, clicked play, and her face turned extremely pale.

Harvey's actions are completely contrary to her principles!

Actually, it's not a big deal. Politicians say one thing and do another. The problem is that Harvey has been exposed!

Seraphim thought for a moment, deciding she couldn't give up so quickly, and said, "Call him."

The assistant dialed the mobile phone, landline, and office phone repeatedly, but just like when she first received the news, no one answered.

"I can't get through..." the assistant said, recounting the previous two attempts to call.

"Beat Bob," Hillary said.

The assistant called Bob Weinstein to inquire about the details, then quickly hung up and told Hillary, "Bob said the situation is under control and the brothers can handle it."

Sylvie didn't want to get involved in that kind of mess, so she immediately put it out of her mind.

…………

New York, The Weinstein Company.

Bob sat in his brother Harvey's office, put down his phone, and watched as WarnerMedia News Channel broadcast Harvey's story on the television across from him.

This youngest member of the Weinstein family, Harvey's shadow, opens a phone book containing the list of the Weinstein Company's board of directors. He can convene board meetings by uniting several allies.

Bob closed the phone book; it was a bit early, they could talk later.

He took out two cell phones, turned them both off, and after leaving the company, instead of going home, he went alone to his apartment on the Upper East Side. Once inside, he first unplugged the landline.

Like Harvey, Bob is also temporarily out of contact.
