Chapter 38 The Kind-hearted Wandering Monk

The next day, at 10:00 AM.

Li Chuan stood on the coastline, watching the group of people emerge from the forest path, a smile gradually appearing on his face.

"It's finally here!"

The man with white hair, a headband covering one eye, and a half-masked face is Kakashi, an elite Jonin. The old man in front of him should be Tazuna, the bridge-building master from the Land of Waves.

Surrounding Tazuna were three children, aged eleven or twelve, with black, yellow, and pink hair, forming a standard ninja guard formation. They were clearly Sasuke, Naruto, and Sakura.

"Who goes there? This time, let Lord Naruto take care of you!"

Upon seeing Li Chuan standing there, Naruto, who was walking at the front, immediately took out his kunai and assumed a fighting stance, as did Sasuke and Sakura.

They had just been attacked by two wandering ninjas.

"Don't be so nervous, they're probably not the enemy!"

Kakashi quickly glanced at Li Chuan, then grabbed Naruto from behind as he tried to rush forward and pulled him back.

He didn't sense any hostility from Li Chuan, and he also recognized the insignia on Li Chuan's waist that belonged exclusively to the Fire Temple Ninja Monks.

"Are you ninjas from Konoha Village?"

Li Chuan stepped forward, looked at Naruto's headband, and pretended to realize something.

"Yes, we are on a mission. Are you a ninja monk from the Fire Temple?"

Kakashi narrowed his dead fish eyes slightly.

Even though the other person had the Fire Temple's mark on them, he still needed to confirm it.

"This humble monk is indeed from the Temple of Fire, and is currently traveling. I was passing through here and wanted to visit the Land of Waves ahead, but I discovered that there is no boat on the shore to take me there. Do you know why?"

Li Chuan nodded somewhat helplessly.

What kind of place is the Temple of Fire?

Naruto, standing nearby, looked completely bewildered, clearly having never heard of it before.

Sakura, standing nearby, smacked him on the head:

"These are all written in the books when I was in school. The Fire Temple is the only ninja temple in our Land of Fire. There are many monks who practice ninjutsu there, and they are also our ally in Konoha."

Konoha has a comprehensive education system that teaches more than just basic ninjutsu and taijutsu. However, Naruto, being a poor student, was always sleeping during academic classes, so naturally he knew nothing about it.

"Kado has long controlled the maritime traffic of the Land of Waves. Without his permission, no one can enter or leave the Land of Waves."

At this point, Dazner stepped forward and explained.

"Cado, the owner of that shipping company, a world-famous tycoon?"

Kakashi, standing to the side, looked surprised.

Tazner nodded and sighed softly.

"Now that we've come this far, I'll be frank. You've all been asking me why I was attacked by wandering ninjas, and who sent the attackers?"

I'll tell you now, it's this Cardo, because..."

Tazner then recounted the whole story.

It turns out that Gato indirectly controls the politics, wealth, and people of the Land of Waves by controlling its maritime transport through violent means.

In order to save the people of the Land of Waves, Tazuna wanted to build a bridge across the sea so that the people of the Land of Waves could completely break free from Gato's control and gain freedom.

Unfortunately, halfway through the bridge's construction, he was threatened by Gato and had to hire Konoha ninjas to protect him so he could continue building the bridge.

However, since they didn't have much money, they had to lie about the mission information and lower the mission level.

"If you cancel the mission now, I'll definitely be killed before I get home. But it's okay, I understand, it's not your fault."

My eight-year-old granddaughter will spend her days in tears, and my daughter will hate the ninjas of Konoha forever and live a lonely life.

"Little monk, do you agree with what I said?"

After Dazner finished his performance, he specifically pointed to Li Chuan, who looked very kind.

Li Chuan lived up to his expectations, nodding angrily:

"How could there be such a vicious person in this world!"

"Mr. Tazuna, rest assured, even if some Konoha ninjas are unwilling to help due to the reward, I, though not very strong, am willing to protect your safety with my life until the bridge is completed."

Li Chuan's intentions were the same as Dazner's, so naturally he had to speak up for him.

Kakashi, Naruto, and the other two looked at each other, unsure how to respond.

At this point, they had to follow the normal procedure to cancel the mission because Dazna had lied about the mission information. It felt like they had done something heinous, and they were filled with guilt.

Tazuna was surprised by Li Chuan's kindness. He first sincerely thanked Li Chuan, and then looked at Kakashi.

The meaning is clear: look at them, and then look at yourselves.

Kakashi scratched his head, then looked at Naruto and the other two, whose eyes were full of expectation, and nodded helplessly.

"Alright, then we'll continue to protect you!"

He wasn't blind to Tazuna's little scheme; he just wanted to use it to train his subordinates. Besides, most of Gato's men were just wandering ninjas, whom he didn't take seriously.

As for the young monk who had just left the Fire Temple to travel, in his eyes he was just a kind and innocent little monk who was fooled by the old fox Tazuna's acting skills.

To be honest, he admired Tazuna's willingness to risk his life to repair the bridge; otherwise, he wouldn't have agreed so easily.

"Thank you so much! I'll definitely have my daughter cook you lots of delicious food when we get home at noon!"

Hearing Kakashi agree, Tazuna finally relaxed.

Although the young monk was kind, he was certainly not as strong as the famous Konoha ninja. If the Konoha ninja abandoned the mission, he would only be waiting to die.

"Please wait a moment."

Tazner took a small whistle out of his pocket, stood on the shore, and blew it hard. A very strange sound carried far away.

About ten minutes later, a young man carefully navigated the thick fog in his boat and appeared on the shore.

"Mr. Tazuna, get on the ship quickly. We need to get back before the fog clears, or we'll be in trouble if the people of Kado find us."

And so, Li Chuan boarded the small boat with Kakashi and the others.

During the sea crossing, Kakashi and his three companions introduced themselves to Li Chuan on the small boat and chatted briefly.

Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura were just chatting casually, while Kakashi kept probing Li Chuan during the conversation, seemingly trying to further verify his identity.

In fact, when carrying out a mission like this, suddenly having unfamiliar ninjas join in is not a wise decision.

However, Li Chuan was a ninja monk from the Fire Temple, and since the other party was originally planning to travel to the Land of Waves and was offering help out of goodwill, he couldn't refuse.

Li Chuan was well aware of Kakashi's probing, but since his identity was legitimate, he wasn't afraid of Kakashi's tests.
