Chapter 85 Barry the House-Elf

"Grindelwald has probably infiltrated the Magical Congress of the United States by now!"

Pushing through the crowd to the fireplace and queuing up, Li Chuan thought about the newspaper article he had just glanced at.

If he remembered correctly, after being internationally wanted, Grindelwald disguised himself as an Auror named Percival Grevis, who also served as the Director of Magical Security and the Director of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement at the Magical Congress of the United States.

However, that's not what he needs to think about right now. What he needs most right now is to quickly digest all the magic in Tom Foley's memories and become a qualified wizard.

During his first six months there, his primary goal was to master the basic magical abilities a wizard should possess.

There are two rows of fireplaces diagonally opposite the hall, with the entrance on the left and the exit on the right. Li Chuan is in front of the first fireplace on the right.

One by one, the wizards in front of him disappeared into the fireplace, and soon it was his turn.

Taking a deep breath, and following Tom's memory, he grabbed a handful of glittering silver powder from the fireplace and sprinkled it into the flames. Once the flames turned green, he stepped into the fireplace and shouted:

Diagon Alley!

The green flames instantly grew larger, completely engulfing his body. The next second, he appeared in the fireplace of the Leaky Cauldron in Diagon Alley.

"Hey Mr. Foley, how about a sherry? All drinks and food are free at the bar today!"

Just as Li Chuan stepped out of the fireplace, he was stopped by a young man of about twenty years old standing at the bar.

Li Chuan turned his head and glanced at the cheering wizards in the bar, then smiled and shook his head:

"No, Tom, I just got back from my trip and all I want to do is go home and get a good night's sleep. What's up with everyone today? They all seem so happy?"

The young man, also known as Tom, is the current owner of the Leaky Cauldron in Diagon Alley. He previously studied magic at Hufflepuff at Hogwarts, where he was Tom's junior. After graduating, he returned to Diagon Alley to take over his father's pub.

However, the bar is not usually this lively, and the drinks and food are free. This only happened on Tom's first day as the boss.

Tom laughed heartily upon hearing this:

"Mr. Foley, I have good news for you. The Leaky Cauldron won't have to be demolished. The Ministry of Magic has decided to use Oblivion Charms extensively on Muggle designers and government personnel, so that the Leaky Cauldron can have a place in the new road plan."

"That's definitely something to celebrate!"

Li Chuan immediately understood.

According to his memory, he knew that two months ago the Muggle government was planning to build Charing Cross Road, and according to the Muggle government's plan, the Leaky Cauldron would definitely be razed to the ground.

As the only bar in Diagon Alley, a safe haven for wizards in Muggle society, this is certainly something that saddens many wizards.

This was a particularly heavy blow to Tom, who had only recently taken over the bar.

Fortunately, more than half a month ago, before his original self left for his trip, all the wizards felt that the Leaky Cauldron should not be razed to the ground, so they jointly submitted a letter of recommendation to the Ministry of Magic.

It seems that after careful consideration, the Ministry of Magic has agreed to everyone's suggestion and plans to use the Oblivion Charm to make the Muggle government avoid the location of the Leaky Cauldron when planning the city.

The Leaky Cauldron is not only a place for wizards to eat, drink, chat, and stay, but also a gateway connecting the Muggle world to the Magical Street. Its removal would obviously cause a lot of trouble.

After saying goodbye to the bar owner, Tom, Li Chuan arrived at the bar's backyard and entered Diagon Alley through a magical mechanism there.

Unfortunately, he hasn't learned how to use Apparition yet, so this is the only way he can get back to Diagon Alley.

Fortunately, the wizards were all celebrating in the bar's living room at the time, and no one came to the backyard, otherwise it would have been quite awkward.

"Calligraphy, brass, pewter, and silver crucibles—all sizes available. Automatic stirring, foldable, and extendable. Come take a look!"

"Grey owl, hawk owl, bobtail cat, long-haired cat, black-rimmed toad, golden toad, corn snake, king snake, red rose tarantula—I have all the pets you want!"

"The fastest flying broomstick, the One Star from the Sweeping Broom Company, a revolutionary invention you deserve!"

"Dragon liver, bat spleen, eel eyeballs, spellbooks, quill pens, parchment, medicine bottles, moon globes—all at cheap prices!"

He walked along the cobblestone path to Diagon Alley, past one magical shop after another, and soon found his own herbalist shop—Mr. Foley's Herbalist Shop.

Since the start of the school season has passed, there aren't many wizards in Diagon Alley; they are all adult wizards, and you can hardly see any young wizards.

He took out the key from the bag and opened the door of the herbal shop. Before he could even go inside, a little guy in tattered clothes appeared in front of him.

"Master, you're back!"

"Oh, it's Barry. Has there been any problem at the store lately?"

Looking at the little girl in front of him, Li Chuan knew that she was Barry, the house-elf of the Foley family.

House-elves are a magical race conquered by wizards in ancient wars. Each one is trained to be servile from birth and is destined to serve its master for generations.

They were responsible for all household chores, bound by their master, and could not disobey his orders at will; if they did, they would be punished.

Normally, only some ancient wizarding families have house-elves to serve them, but although the Foley family has declined, it is still one of the twenty-eight pure-blooded holy families, so naturally it also has a house-elf to serve it.

"Dear Master, everything is normal in the shop under Barry's watchful eye. Barry cleans the shop twelve times a day to ensure that you can see the cleanest and most perfect shop when you return."

Barry nodded quickly, afraid that she might do something wrong and upset her master, Tom.

Li Chuan smiled:

"Great, go make some lunch, I'm hungry."

House-elves are wonderful creatures. They are born with the ability to cast spells silently without a wand, are proficient in various life magics, and are extremely loyal—the perfect butlers.

"Yes, my master. Please wait a moment, lunch will be ready soon."

Barry bowed respectfully to Li Chuan and then disappeared on the spot.

Li Chuan walked into the herbal medicine shop, turned on the magic lamp, thought for a moment, and then closed the shop door again.

The Foley family's assets are enough for him to squander for quite some time, so there's no need for him to waste his precious time running the herbalist shop. He should spend more time learning and mastering various forms of magic.

The herbal medicine shop wasn't very big, and the variety of herbs displayed on the counter wasn't extensive. Even if it were to operate, it probably wouldn't make much money.

After passing through the front hall and arriving at the back living area, Li Chuan saw Bali again.

At this moment, Barry was casting a cooking spell. Under the influence of her magic, the various tools and ingredients in the kitchen seemed to come to life and began to work busily.

Before long, one delicious dish after another was cooked and, under her control, flew out of the kitchen and landed on the dining table.
