Mystery: My Encounters with the Celestial God
Chapter 12 Indifference
Chapter 12 Indifference
Berklund Street was very quiet late at night, with only the faint chirping of insects echoing in the silent night air.
Hazel did not let her guard down just because no one was around. She moved cautiously in the shadows of the building like a thief.
Before long, she arrived at a manhole cover. She awkwardly opened the cover and leaned inside.
A faint light appeared, dispelling the surrounding darkness. Hazel carefully took each step to avoid stepping on anything unpleasant.
As she walked, she saw a familiar corner. As soon as she entered, a woman's voice appeared in her mind.
"Hayr?"
"Did you encounter some problem coming here at this time?"
The sudden sound startled the girl, but after she came to her senses, she breathed a sigh of relief.
"Teacher, I followed your instructions today and I feel much better mentally."
"The reason I came here at night is to ask you for more knowledge about the occult."
This was a test devised by Hazel; she intended to see if her teacher would teach her more about mysticism.
"Oh?"
"You're very good; you're a studious child."
The demigod inside the wall was somewhat surprised, but he didn't think much of it and praised Hazel in response.
"Teacher, I have a few questions I'd like to ask you."
"The potion I took was The Thief, so my act of stealing today is in line with the potion's name. Is that why those illusory murmurs stopped appearing?"
Her question wasn't particularly tricky; it was the kind that even a perceptive person could notice.
"You are a very observant child. You understood my hidden meaning. Your guess was correct. Once you grasp this point, you will have mastered the power of the potion."
The demigod inside the wall confirmed Hazel's guess but did not explain the existence of the Acting Method to her, which undoubtedly made Hazel's heart even heavier.
"Teacher, aren't there any hidden dangers or problems with this method?"
Undeterred, the girl pressed on, instinctively unwilling to believe that her extraordinary adventure was just a trap.
"There are no hidden dangers. As long as you focus on stealing and hone your skills, you will master the power of the potion."
The demigod started bluffing again, but the girl's question made her somewhat suspicious, because it didn't fit Hazel's previous personality.
Most of the time, she was the one bluffing, and Hazel was the one listening. Hazel always obeyed and accepted her, and rarely questioned her.
"Did something happen...?"
The parasite pondered in her heart, her demigod-like spiritual intuition reminding her that there was definitely something wrong here.
"That's not how it is, it's completely different from what Mr. Ron said..."
The girl's mind kept replaying Mr. Handsome's reminder, and her fear of her teacher grew stronger.
Just then, she suddenly heard a sound coming from the silent, deserted sewer.
"Who is Mr. Ron!?"
Hazel's pupils dilated instantly, and her breathing became rapid. At that moment, Ron's explanation flashed through her mind.
Sequence Five: The Dream Thief.
Before she could catch her breath and respond to her teacher, she heard another sound coming from the empty sewer.
"You actually know about Dream Thief!"
The voice was no longer as gentle as before; it was sharp and angry. The demigod's roar made the girl's head throb and her expression blank. The babbling that had faded from her mind resurfaced.
Although Hazel was being careful enough, she still didn't know enough about the extraordinary realm and was unaware of the horrors of demigods and cyborgs.
Her memories kept fading away, her mind went blank as she stood there, stunned. Her thoughts and memories were being stolen away one after another.
"You've come to test me!"
Another sharp, angry roar rang out, and the girl suddenly saw small insects with rings emerging from the wall in front of her.
In that instant, Hazel's thoughts exploded; her face contorted, and translucent, pale fleshy buds sprouted from her body.
She curled up uncontrollably, letting out miserable and painful howls, rolling around on the ground. In just a breath, she almost died in agony.
Just then, a crisp, almost magical snap of fingers rang out.
Everything before Hazel's eyes began to shatter, shattering silently. She opened her eyes with trembling hands and found that the translucent insects had not appeared on the wall in front of her, as if everything just now was just a dream.
"No, it's not a dream..."
The girl knelt on the spot, feeling the lingering pain in her mind, watching the pale fleshy growths on her body wriggle continuously.
"Sigh~ What a wasted trip. I thought it was some big fish, but it's just this?"
"A mere demigod, not even a Sequence Three..."
The voice came from the depths of the dark sewers, and Heyrel didn't need to listen carefully to recognize whose voice it was.
"Mr. Ron!"
The girl cried out in surprise, her eyes regaining hope as she looked at her savior.
Just a moment ago, Hazel thought she was going to die in agony, which caused her immense inner turmoil.
She couldn't imagine how heartbroken and desperate her parents would be after losing her, which filled her with resentment towards her own recklessness.
Ron's appearance rekindled her hope—the hope of returning to her parents and surviving!
But when she saw Ron's full appearance, she froze.
As Ron slowly approached, there was not a trace of the warm smile she knew. His gaze was utterly indifferent, like that of a god looking down upon the world from a high place.
This version of Ron instinctively terrified her and made her feel like a stranger.
"You're Ron? Why are you ruining my plans!"
The demigod's voice came again, filled with boundless resentment and anger, but this meant nothing to Ron, not even as much as the Celestial's curses in his mind.
"ah!!!"
Although the demigod's voice had no effect on Ron, Hazel, who was already kneeling on the ground, let out a painful wail.
Seeing the girl's miserable state, Ron's cold eyes flickered slightly. He hesitated again and again, but finally took out a tissue he had taken from the coffee shop.
"Close your eyes and plug your ears!"
The tissue slowly drifted down and landed in the hand of Hazel, who was bleeding from her seven orifices and whose pale fleshy buds were constantly wriggling on her body.
Ignoring the grateful look in the girl's eyes behind him, Ron put one hand in his pocket, looked at the stone wall in front of him, and then at the demigod sealed inside.
"Sigh... he really was just a demigod..."
Life is tough, and the three pillars all sighed in unison, though the emotions they expressed were quite different.
