Marvel's Hogwarts Wizard
Chapter 157 The Auror's Pursuit
Chapter 157 The Auror's Pursuit (Second Update)
"This is quite different from what I imagined!"
Upon arriving at the second basement level, Jerry fully expected that the underground exchange below would be decorated in a magical and romantic style, just like the French Ministry of Magic he had seen before.
To my surprise, it turned out to be so simple, even rudimentary.
It was a huge enclosed space with about twenty wizards dressed in wizard robes sitting cross-legged on the floor, surrounded by carpets.
Yes, it's just the simplest way to set up a street stall. There are no shops or counters. The wizards spread a black cloth on the ground and display the items they want to sell on it.
Meanwhile, the wizards who shared his goal were wearing masks and strolling around these small stalls, selecting the items they wanted.
After a slight pause, Jerry didn't dwell on it too much. He was mainly there to choose suitable magical items, so it didn't matter to him whether the items were displayed on a stall or on a counter.
So he stepped into the group of wizards who were selecting items.
"Various deadly poisons and cursed potions—just a drop can turn any wizard you despise into bones!"
"The Hand of Glory, a favorite of thieves and robbers; just stick a candle in it, and you'll see light even in the dark!"
"Give this cursed ring to your friend, and you'll be able to attend his funeral the next day!"
Jerry walked past the stalls, listening to the stall owners enthusiastically introducing the forbidden magical items that were not allowed to be sold by the Ministry of Magic.
He also saw bags, boxes, and suitcases made with alchemy and the Unseen Stretching Charm, but upon closer inspection, the largest of them was less than one-tenth the size of the box in his hand.
This made him sigh, realizing that Quirrell's abilities were indeed far superior to those of the wizards outside, which was why he could become a Hogwarts professor.
But then he thought of Newt's suitcase from "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them".
All I can say is that he is indeed a master who can hold his own against Grindelwald; he must have mastered the Unseen Stretching Spell to its highest level.
Halfway through his stroll, his eyes suddenly fell on a pair of gloves on a stall to his right. Sensing the magical fluctuations on them, a smile immediately appeared on his face.
I finally found the things I wanted to buy today.
"How much are these gloves?"
Jerry walked over, squatted down, and asked.
The stall owner was a gaunt old man with a full head of white hair and a missing tooth. Seeing Jerry ask about the gloves, he replied in a low voice:
"Five hundred gold galleons!"
Jerry frowned. He knew the gloves were door keys, but five hundred Galleons was no cheap price.
Don't be fooled by his monthly salary of 500 Galleons; that's a completely special case.
In a normal country, a Quidditch team member's salary is around 300 gold coins a month, which is already considered quite high, considering that an ordinary Auror's salary is only 140 gold coins a month.
These two door keys are worth more than three months' salary for an average Auror.
"Port keys aren't something ordinary wizards can make. Of all the stalls here, I'm the only one selling port keys. If you want one, five hundred Galleons, no bargaining!"
The old wizard glanced at Jerry and replied in a nonchalant tone.
"Okay, I'll take these two house keys!"
Jerry picked up the gloves and prepared to take out his money.
He could have negotiated the price down further. Although only the old wizard sells door keys here, not many people actually buy them. The old wizard's door keys probably haven't been sold for a long time.
Because the Portkey allows for point-to-point teleportation, you can normally apply for its use at the Ministry of Magic for very little money.
Only wizards who are wanted by the authorities or who are forbidden by the Ministry of Magic from leaving their country need this kind of door key.
However, such people generally do not buy and use door keys themselves, because the use of door keys will definitely be monitored by the Ministry of Magic of various countries. You will be surrounded by Aurors the moment you finish using them.
The only way is to find smugglers who specialize in the smuggling business, because they have already made connections behind the scenes. Using their door keys will not be detected, it just costs more money.
However, Jerry didn't try to haggle; there was no need. He really needed the keys, and going back and forth would only cause more problems.
"Aurors are here! Run!"
Jerry had just taken out half of the money when an urgent voice suddenly came from the stairwell.
Turning my head, I saw it was the same French wizard who had blocked the door earlier.
After the French sorcerer loudly announced his arrival, he instantly vanished from the spot using Apparition.
Then, a dozen or so Aurors rushed in from the stairwell.
"Swish! Swish! Swish! Swish!"
Upon hearing this, the wizards next to Jerry immediately used Apparition to escape the scene, while the wizards who set up stalls seemed to take it for granted, picking up their stalls and also starting to use Apparition.
Now Jerry finally understood why the transactions were conducted in a street stall style – it was so convenient for the Aurors to escape!
"Your money, okay!"
Turning around, Jerry discovered that the old wizard had already apparated away with his belongings, so he had no choice but to throw the Portkey and Galleons into his own box space.
For an old wizard, crafting a portal key is not a difficult task. If he loses one, he can simply craft another one after a while. But if he is captured by an Auror, he will have to stay in there for several years.
"Barbie Q? I can't Apparate!"
Seeing that, apart from a few slow-reacting wizards who were hit by the Auror's Sleeping Charm, everyone else was Apparating to escape, Jerry couldn't help but feel a headache coming on.
He hasn't mastered Apparition yet, so for now he can only rely on his agility to dodge the occasional magical attacks from the Aurors while trying to think of a way to escape.
"You wizard over there, stop resisting immediately!"
At this point, those who could escape used Apparition to flee, while those who couldn't escape were all stunned and collapsed to the ground.
Jerry was the only one standing on the entire second basement level, neither using Apparition to escape nor being knocked down by the Stunning Curse.
So now all of the dozen or so Aurors have pointed their wands at Jerry.
"Looks like we'll have to resort to force... Oh well, let's not escalate this further!"
Looking around, Jerry realized the only exit was blocked by Aurors. He smiled and raised his hands to indicate he had no wand, hoping to lower their guard, but secretly began chanting a spell:
"A thick fog of smoke!"
A thick cloud of smoke instantly engulfed the entire second basement level.
The Auror opposite was taken aback for a moment because he didn't expect Jerry to be able to cast spells without a wand.
However, they reacted very quickly. With a wave of their spell, a gust of wind blew by, instantly dissipating all the smoke.
However, Jerry did not appear in the basement at this time.
"Reveal yourself immediately!"
