Chapter 681: The Operation Begins

Chapter 681 The Operation Begins (Second Update)

"Drax, what are you talking about?"

Gamora rolled her eyes at Drax, then spoke softly to Mantis:

"Mantis, don't listen to him. You're not ugly at all; you're quite cute."

"Gamora, isn't she ugly?"

Drax looked on incredulously.

"You don't need to comfort me, I only realized today how ugly I am!"

The Mantis touched Drax's body and found that the emotions Drax expressed were so sincere. She knew that he was not lying or deliberately belittling himself, so she naturally believed that she was indeed ugly.

Gamora wouldn't let her touch her body, and she couldn't sense Gamora's emotions, believing that Gamora's words were just to comfort her.

"It's okay, actually this is a blessing in disguise. If someone loves you even though you're so ugly, it means they must love your inner qualities. Unlike beautiful people, you don't know who to trust!"

Drax's tone was full of emotion, as if the beautiful person was talking about himself.

Mantis touched Drax's body again, sensing the sincerity in his emotions, and seemed to find some comfort in herself:

"Yes, perhaps I should be comforted by my ugliness."

In Mantis's eyes, of all these people, only Drax was willing to let her touch his body at any time to read his emotions. Star-Lord hadn't dared to touch her since she touched him once.

Gamora, Nebula, Jerry, and Rocket all forbid her from reading emotions.

Groot didn't mind, but Groot's thinking was too simple, and it was basically impossible to read any emotions from him.

Only Drax not only didn't mind letting her read his emotions, but he was also completely consistent in his words and actions, speaking with utmost sincerity, never deceiving her, and even comforting her.

This made her feel that Drax and she got along very well.

Clearly, Drax also felt that he and Mantis got along well, so he patted Mantis on the shoulder at the end:

"Little Insect, it seems we're well-suited to be friends. Although you're ugly, you're very innocent, just like my daughter!"

Gamora was speechless as she watched Mantis and Drax suddenly become very close.

Rocket, sitting on Groot's shoulders, was already laughing so hard he was practically rolling on the floor.

Only Jerry nodded in satisfaction, glad that he hadn't kicked Drax out of the operation because of his low intelligence.

For most people, those who can read emotions are terrifying, because even if you don't have darkness in your heart, you must have some things you don't want others to know.

For example, Star-Lord was read on the spaceship and wanted to do unspeakable things with Gamora.

However, there is one exception: Drax, a simple-minded guy who is straightforward, without any guile, and has a unique way of thinking.

"Okay, Mantis, it seems there are no other living beings on this planet?"

Gamora, a normal person, couldn't understand the abnormal behavior of Drax and Mantis, so she changed the subject to what she wanted to know.

After arriving on this planet and learning about the past as told by Ego, she still felt that something was off.

The biggest question is, if Ego is so powerful, why did he leave Earth and abandon Quill and his mother?

Why didn't he go to pick up Quill himself, but instead hired Yondu? And why did Yondu keep Quill back then? Was it just because Quill's small body allowed him to steal things from places that normal people couldn't go?

So she wanted to see if she could get any clues from the Mantis Woman.

"This planet is Ego's body. He won't let other creatures live on his body, just like a dog won't let fleas live on its body."

The Mantis Woman explained with a sigh.

"So, you're a louse too?"

Gamora seemed to realize something from this metaphor.

The Mantis nodded, not denying it:

"I'm a louse too, except I'm a louse with some value; I can help Igor fall asleep."

At this point, she hesitated, as if she wanted to say something more, but in the end she gave up.

"We're here, this is where you'll be staying!"

As evening fell, Star-Lord returned to the building where Jerry and the others were, looking quite pleased with himself.

Jerry also clearly sensed the powerful divine energy that Star-Lord's physique had been induced to unleash.

However, not long after, the sound of Star-Lord arguing with Gamora could be heard coming from Star-Lord's room.

"Quail, I have a bad feeling about this place. We'd better get out of here as soon as possible."

"What? You're the one who persuaded me to come here? I just reunited with my only family member, and he even played fetch with me. And now you want me to leave?"

"You have relatives on Earth too, your uncles and the others are there, but you've never gone back!"

"But Earth is where I watched my mother die, and I now possess the power of a god, making me no longer ordinary."

"But Earth is real, and this place is an illusion. Igor is definitely hiding something from you. I think what he said is full of loopholes and doesn't make sense."

After arguing for a while, Star-Lord angrily pushed open the door and asked Rocket, Jerry, Nebula, and Groot in the living room:

What do you think?

"Am I Groot?"

Groot tilted his head, seemingly still not understanding what was going on.

After checking and adjusting his weapons, Rocket's tone became unusually serious:

"To be honest, Quill, this time I agree with Gamora's opinion. My gut feeling tells me that Ego is definitely problematic."

"I agree with my sister. The way he looks at us is like he's looking at lice. That's not the look a loving person should have. Maybe he just wants to use you, Quill."

Nebula said coldly.

"You're just jealous, jealous that my other half comes from God. I'm telling you, I won't leave, at least not now!"

Star-Lord was clearly surprised that none of his friends supported him, and he angrily shouted.

At this moment, sensing that Ego had been spying all along, he finally withdrew his mental energy. Jerry stepped forward and snapped his fingers to dispel the forgetting spell and false memory spell on the place and the people present.

"Alright, we can officially begin the plan now!"

Through his recent observation, Ego has confirmed that Star-Lord trusts him, so he will definitely come to confront Star-Lord tonight, hoping that Star-Lord can use his awakened Celestial power to help him complete his plan.

That was when Ego was most relaxed and vigilant, and it was also the best time for Jerry to launch an attack.

After Jerry's brief explanation, the group, having regained their memories, quickly learned the full details of the plan and began preparing for their next move.

Just then, Drax, who had been chatting with Mantis outside, returned.

Given Drax's intelligence, Jerry figured it wouldn't be too late to remove his forgetfulness spell after the whole thing was over.
