Chapter 111 The Hero Arrives
At this moment, a small, thin figure was huddled in a corner of the street; it was a girl who looked no more than seven or eight years old.
She hugged her knees tightly, trying to ward off the cold, but to no avail. The girl's eyes were vacant, her gaze fixed blankly on the street.
"My younger brother is sick," she murmured hoarsely. "If he doesn't eat today, he'll die like Father and Mother."
As soon as she finished speaking, the middle-aged man beside her suddenly collapsed to the ground. His body twitched a few times, then he lay still. The girl looked up and recognized the familiar face.
That was the uncle who used to live next door to her house, and who even delivered vegetables he grew himself to her family.
The girl remembered her uncle always smiling and praising her beautiful eyes, and would pat her head, but now, only the deathly ashen look remained on his face.
She recalled how, a few months earlier, those elegantly dressed nobles had suddenly appeared on the streets. They brought soldiers, new decrees, and endless taxes.
However, when faced with her uncle's body, the girl's eyes showed no tears and her face showed no sorrow.
These days, this kind of thing has happened far too often. People starving to death are as common as autumn leaves.
The girl was numb and could no longer cry.
Just then, a woman dressed reasonably well walked past the girl. She stopped, took a copper coin from her pocket, and gently placed it in front of the girl.
"Poor child," the woman sighed, "take this and buy some food."
A glint suddenly flashed in the girl's eyes, and her chapped lips moved with difficulty: "Thank you!"
She reached out with trembling hands and carefully picked up the copper coin as if it were a rare treasure. She struggled to stand up, her legs trembling uncontrollably from prolonged hunger.
Just then, a commotion suddenly broke out on the street. The crowd became restless and began to move aside. Before the girl could react, she was pushed backward by the surging crowd.
"Ah!" she cried out, losing her balance. In the instant she fell, she felt the coin slip from her hand.
Ignoring the pain, the girl crawled on all fours towards the middle of the road. Her eyes were fixed on the copper coin rolling on the ground.
"Wait!" she cried out in her heart.
The coin finally stopped in the middle of the road. The girl breathed a sigh of relief and reached out her trembling hand to grab it. Just then, a shiny leather boot suddenly stomped down heavily from above, precisely stepping on the coin.
The girl looked up and saw a procession standing before her. Three men walked in front, followed by a brightly dressed young woman.
The man in the lead was named Sheila, the son of Minister Ernest, who held supreme power in the Empire. Behind him was the Empire's recently formed special force—the Wild Hounds.
Sheila looked down at the girl, a flash of disgust in her eyes. The others also cast disdainful glances at the girl kneeling on the ground, as if she were a filthy insect.
The girl tried to stand up in a panic, but her legs were weak from prolonged hunger. She stumbled and accidentally bumped into Sheila's trouser leg.
Sheila's face instantly darkened: "It seems some of these lowly people haven't learned what manners are yet..."
The girl felt a chill run down her spine. She wanted to beg for mercy, but found her throat too dry to make a sound.
She could only look at the person in front of her with pleading eyes, hoping that he would take pity on her and return the coins to her.
"Lord Sheila, let me teach him a lesson."
An obese man with exaggerated clown makeup suddenly approached. His gaze swept over the girl, a disturbing glint in his eyes.
He licked his lips, his voice tinged with inexplicable excitement: "These eyes are truly beautiful."
The woman behind him laughed and said, "Shampu, do you want to gouge out your eyes and make a specimen?"
"Cosmia, that's a great idea," Champe grinned, revealing a mouthful of yellow teeth.
Izo, dressed as a samurai, glanced at Shangpu but said nothing.
Hearing their conversation, the girl took a few steps back in fear, her heart pounding so hard it felt like it was going to jump out of her chest.
Sheila glanced around at the dilapidated streets, a look of disgust on her face. "Forget it, let's not waste time. The raiders might be hiding among these lowly people."
The next moment, Sheila disdainfully raised her foot and kicked it hard. The copper coin drew an arc in the air, flashing a faint light as it flew towards the distant street corner.
The girl's eyes lit up instantly. She struggled to her feet, her voice weak but full of gratitude: "Thank you."
Ignoring the pain all over her body, the girl stumbled and ran towards the direction where the copper coin had fallen. To her, this small copper coin was her only hope for survival, her and her brother's only chance to live.
At that moment, Shang Pu grinned, a cruel glint in his eyes. He pulled a sphere that shimmered with an eerie light from his pocket and tossed it around casually.
"Hey, little sister," Champo's voice was sickeningly sweet, "want to play a game?"
Before the girl could react, the ball had already drawn an arc in the air and landed straight at her feet.
hum!
A beam of light emanated from the sphere.

The girl stared wide-eyed at the sphere radiating an ominous light. The air seemed to freeze, and a suffocating sense of danger instantly filled the air.
"Am I going to die?" the girl thought desperately. Tears welled up uncontrollably in her eyes, blurring her vision. She thought of her sick younger brother, and of the home she would never return to.
"I'm sorry, little brother," the girl murmured, her voice barely audible. She closed her eyes, awaiting the impending pain.
"boom!"
A deafening explosion suddenly rang out.
A violent gust of air swept in, but parted just before it touched the little girl, as if blocked by an invisible barrier. The scorching air whistled past her, ruffling her disheveled hair.
The expected pain did not come. The little girl opened her eyes trembling, and the sight before her made her hold her breath instantly.
A tall figure appeared before her without her noticing. The man had his back to her, and his robes fluttered in the wind, exuding an aura of quiet authority.
On the clothes behind him, the two large characters for "justice" stood out clearly.
As the smoke and dust slowly dissipated, the man's sharply defined profile was revealed. A chilling sense of oppression filled the air, as if the entire world had frozen in that moment.
"Oh"
A cold laugh escaped his lips, and that single syllable alone made everyone present feel a sense of pressure.
"You bunch of scum, you're disgusting."
The little girl stared blankly at the figure in front of her, a strange sense of security suddenly welling up in her heart.
She didn't know who this person who suddenly appeared was, but she knew she was saved.
At this moment, it was as if a god had descended to earth and a hero had appeared.
