Chapters 125 and 127: The Art of the Dead Soul

As he watched the corpse sit up in the isolation room, Detective Sasaki's pupils contracted to their limit, his expression a mixture of fear and disbelief.

Previously, he had not only hidden in the cramped isolation room with the target's corpse, but had also personally collected hair and blood samples from the target. Observing the corpse's unique cold skin, stiff muscles, and congealed black blood at such close range, he could be quite certain that the target was dead, not just feigning death.

"Give it back to me—"

And now the corpse is talking!

Even though Detective Sasaki always prided himself on being fearless and lawless, he was still terrified when he saw this scene.

Seeing that the target corpse had already placed its hand on the drawer and was about to climb out of the isolation room, Detective Sasaki didn't care about anything else. It was best to make a quick getaway.

Detective Sasaki rushed to the morgue door, grabbed the handle and tried to turn it, but the handle wouldn't budge; it was already locked!

"Hold!"

Detective Sasaki tried his best to turn the handle, but it was as if it were rusted and wouldn't budge.

Could it be that those nurses locked the door when they left? Didn't those bitches know there were security guards inside?

"Ito, you have a key, right? Come and open the door!"

Detective Sasaki tried to ram the morgue door, but to no avail. He shouted anxiously and turned around to see the short, fat security guard standing there dumbfounded, his body trembling like a leaf.

The drunken security guard he was supporting on the shoulder also fell to the ground. The guard rolled over once, mumbled a few words incoherently, and then continued to snore.

"Ito, stop acting silly and come open the door!"

Detective Sasaki shoved and pushed the short, fat security guard to the morgue's main entrance, all the while rummaging through the guard's pockets.

"Where's the key? Which one is the key to the morgue? Bring it out now!"

The short, stout security guard was deathly pale, devoid of any color, but cold sweat poured down his forehead as he fumbled in his pockets.

"Why isn't it here? Where are my keys?"

Upon hearing this, Detective Sasaki's expression changed drastically. He skillfully searched the short, fat security guard from head to toe, but to his surprise, the large bunch of keys had vanished!

"Damn it, you let me down at a time like this! You're such a useless piece of trash!"

Detective Sasaki couldn't help but burst into a tirade of curses.

The situation is extremely urgent now. The target's body has crawled out of the isolation room, and with a thud, its bare feet landed heavily on the ground.

"Give it back to me—"

The corpse moved with extreme stiffness, its steps faltering as it slowly approached the two, its eyes wide open as it cried out in a ghostly voice.

"Ahhh, no!!"

The short, stout security guard stared wide-eyed in terror, letting out a desperate, piercing scream, as if a dying man had seen something indescribably horrific. Then his eyes rolled back, and his entire body went limp against the morgue door.

She actually fainted!?

Detective Sasaki looked at the short, stout security guard in disbelief, noticing a hint of peace on his chubby face.

There were three living people in the morgue, but now he was the only one who was awake and had to face the monster that had risen from the dead alone. The other two were fast asleep and happy, so all the pressure fell on him alone.

In that instant, Detective Sasaki also wished he could faint like them, so that he could escape this terrifying reality!

As the corpse approached him step by step, Detective Sasaki slapped himself hard across the face, drawing a trickle of blood from his lips, and forced himself to calm down.

He had been a private detective for over a decade and had even seen corpses at crime scenes more than once, but he had never experienced such a terrifying and supernatural scene. The corpses in the morgue had come back to life, just like the legendary zombies.

Should we call the police for help?

Detective Sasaki frantically pulled out his phone, but his movements froze.

Knowing the incompetent people in the Metropolitan Police Department as he did, even if he called the police and asked for help saying that a corpse had risen from the morgue, they would think he was joking and would just give him a few perfunctory replies before hanging up.

Moreover, given the reaction speed of those old men in the Metropolitan Police Department, by the time they arrive at the scene, their own bodies will probably be cold.

So what should we do?!

The corpse, its body stiff and rigid, moved mechanically and rigidly towards the gate. At this distance, its grayish-white eyes and bluish-black lividity on its face were clearly visible. The corpse opened its mouth, uttering an accusation against the living:

"Give it back to me—"

Detective Sasaki's hands and feet were ice-cold, and his back was instantly soaked with cold sweat.

"Snapped!"

Just then, the stiff and slow-moving corpse was tripped by the security guard lying on the ground and fell face down straight to the ground.

"Let's do it! Let's give it our all!"

Suddenly seized by a surge of courage, Detective Sasaki tore off his belt and rushed forward. He used his knees to brace the corpse's back, binding it tightly with its hands and feet bound.

The body was brought from the oncology department. Before dying, it had suffered from chemotherapy and cancer, and was already emaciated, weighing less than 100 pounds.

Seeing the corpse wriggling on the ground like a dead fish, unable to break free from its own weight, Detective Sasaki felt slightly relieved.

Although this resurrected corpse is frightening, it is not as powerful as the monsters in zombie movies. Apart from making a few indistinct strange noises, it is even weaker than an ordinary person and moves very slowly. As long as you overcome your fear, you can easily subdue it.

Having finally escaped the crisis, Detective Sasaki wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and began to ponder what exactly had happened.

Detective Sasaki, driven by his professional instincts, keenly sensed something unusual.

Detective Sasaki suddenly remembered something: in recent years, some strange and supernatural information had begun to circulate in the small circle of private detectives, but most of it was vague. Detective Sasaki initially just laughed it off, but after personally experiencing this terrifying and horrifying scene, he began to become suspicious. Could this be the reality of the world?

I imagine the newspapers would be very interested in such big news, perhaps even more so than my current job.

Detective Sasaki took out his phone, intending to record a video as evidence to see if he could sell it for a good price.

"Knock, knock, knock!"

Once again, a chilling knocking sounded on the morgue door.

"Knock, knock, knock!"

"Knock, knock, knock!"

A series of knocks echoed from inside and outside the various isolation rooms of the morgue.
