America: Starting with the acquisition of MGM...
Chapter 1 Rebirth in America
Chapter 1.1. Rebirth in America
UCLA Medical Center, Los Angeles, California, USA, is one of the top hospitals in the United States with a very high level of medical care.
In a private hospital room, a young man slowly woke up. After a blur of vision, his pupils gradually focused.
He frowned and looked around, immediately realizing that he was in a hospital, seemingly lying in a hospital bed, with a woman by his side. However, it was already late at night, and the woman was asleep.
"Ouch!"
Before he could figure out what was going on, the young man suddenly felt a sharp pain in the back of his head, followed by countless images and memories flooding his mind like a tidal wave.
After a brief moment of pain, the young man touched the bandage on his head and exclaimed, "Holy crap! I've time-traveled!"
The time traveler comes from the 21st century and is an assistant director on a film crew. The director is his third uncle. Once this film is finished, he can independently direct the next one.
After work that day, he went out for a big meal and drinks with his friends from the film crew. Before he could even begin his directing career, he collapsed on the table in a daze.
I woke up to find myself successfully transported to another world, taking over the body of an unlucky guy in this hospital.
The unfortunate man whose place was taken is named Eric Cooper, a tall, handsome white young man, 22 years old, who just graduated from UCLA last week and can be considered a high achiever.
Some might question how a student from a branch campus could be called a top student, which seems ridiculous, but that's a common-sense error.
Just as different universities specialize in different fields, USC is best known for its film arts program, while UCLA is best known for its economics and finance programs.
Numerous Nobel laureates and Fields Medalists have graduated from here, and the school is also known as one of the Public Ivy League schools. The status of any school that is associated with the Ivy League is self-evident.
Besides his outstanding appearance and academic ability, Eric Cooper also comes from a well-off family.
Although he wasn't born into a wealthy family, fortunately his father is quite successful and now works for MGM.
That's right, it's the MGM film company with the roaring lion's head, and Eric Cooper's father, Harry Cooper, is the current CEO of MGM.
Emily Cooper, Eric Cooper's mother, is a relatively traditional housewife who is responsible for taking care of her husband and children. She has already raised Eric Cooper's older brother to adulthood, while Eric Cooper is the youngest son in the family and is naturally the most favored.
"After reading so many online novels, my transmigration outcome, while not top-tier, is still above average. Compared to those transmigrators who start from scratch and become big con artists, my starting point is much higher."
"And the cheap dad is the CEO of MGM. MGM, even though it did go bankrupt later and was even acquired by Amazon, is still a big company. It shouldn't be a big problem for it to help its own son make a few movies."
"My requirements aren't high. Low budget is fine, horror movies are okay too. I just want to hold the director's microphone; that's a microphone I've longed for for so long!"
Eric Cooper was contemplating his situation when, seemingly hearing a noise, the woman accompanying him suddenly woke up. When she saw her son awake, she cried out in surprise, tears welling up in her eyes.
"My God, Eric, Eric, my son, you've finally woken up!"
Looking at the haggard face of the middle-aged woman in front of him, Eric Cooper was stunned for a moment before accepting his new identity. Now that he had transmigrated, it was time to say goodbye to his past self.
He gently patted his mother's back, wanting to say something comforting, but his voice was dry and hoarse from days of unconsciousness: "Mom, I think I need water."
Emily Cooper quickly wiped away her tears, calling for doctors and nurses while pouring her a glass of water.
As a man in his twenties, Eric refused to let his mother feed him water: "Mom, I can do it myself. My head is a little dizzy, but I'm fine now."
However, Emily still insisted on feeding him. Eric was helpless, but the patient had no right to refuse and could only accept it.
He gradually recalled the cause of his injury: he had simply fallen from the balcony of his villa on the second floor, headfirst.
The fact that Eric Cooper did not suffer from a broken cervical spine or high-level paraplegia demonstrates that he is indeed in good physical condition.
Soon, the doctor and nurses arrived. As a top-tier hospital in Los Angeles, and with a private room, the service was excellent.
After the usual examination, the attending physician, Charles, looked constipated.
"Mr. Eric, the test results show that although you are somewhat weak, this is normal, and all indicators are within the normal range."
"But to be honest, I don't quite understand. Based on my more than 30 years of medical experience, in your case, if you are in a coma for more than half a month, you will most likely become a vegetable. Of course, I'm not cursing you, it's just too strange."
Eric thought to himself, "My soul has been replaced, what do you know?"
"Dr. Charles, perhaps I'm just lucky, so can I be discharged?"
Dr. Charles hesitated before saying, "Theoretically, it's possible, but I recommend observation in the hospital, um... at least a week!"
Eric rolled his eyes. "Since everything is normal, I don't think there's any need to observe anymore. What I need most right now isn't disinfectant, but fresh air!"
The series of examinations wasted more than two hours. When Eric walked out of the examination room, besides Emily Cooper waiting there, there was also a middle-aged man accompanying her.
The man was wearing a suit, leather shoes, and even a tie, so he most likely came from the company and was probably working overtime. Don't think that people in America don't have to work overtime.
"Eric, my son, I'm so happy to see you awake." Charlotte Cooper walked over quickly and hugged her son tightly.
"Be careful, Xia Li, you'll hurt him!" Emily quickly pulled her husband away.
Eric shrugged. "Mom, your son isn't that fragile."
But Charlie Cooper quickly let go: "I'm so excited, I don't even know what to say. Honestly, I've never thanked God as much as I do now!"
The next step was for the doctor and patient to discuss the matter. Eric strongly requested to be discharged, while Dr. Charles suggested that he stay in the hospital for observation.
Ultimately, they decided that a week of observation was impossible, and three days was the limit. The Coopers felt sorry for their son, but they respected the doctor's advice and could only compromise.
Eric inadvertently glanced at a calendar on the nurses' station, which clearly showed May 20, 2002.
In an instant, a bolt of lightning flashed through my brain.
"In 2002, MGM, John Woo, Windtalkers, Holy crap! (horrified face)"
