"I still have $700,000 on hand. We can only sell our waste paper in mainland China. We need to split into two groups. One group will go to mainland China to sell our waste paper, and the other group will go to our big brother in the north to sell our products. I think they won't refuse us."

"Jim, you go over there. I'm taking Allen to the mainland. Helen, you stay here and answer the phone."

"Jim, when you get there, it would be best to get a loan, a loan in rubles, as much as you can."

Zhang San shared his ideas with everyone and began to act according to the plan. Why did Zhang San want to drag Allen along to the mainland? Of course, it was to promote his idea by using someone else's name to gain influence, but no one believed him yet.

An international trading network spearheaded by Zhang San was born. Jim, being an American, was naturally welcomed there, but since he was going alone, there were no problems.

Zhang San took Allen to complete the formalities. They had business visas before setting off for the mainland, with Shanghai as their first stop.

"This place is quite nice." Allen remarked as he walked out of the airport and saw the bustling traffic outside.

Zhang San nodded and said, "This is the economic center of the mainland, so of course it's better. Let's rest for a bit and then get back to our business."

The two got into a taxi, and Zhang San said, "Huating Hotel."

The driver said, "It will cost fifty yuan to get there."

"So expensive?"

Zhang San was somewhat surprised, but the driver casually said, "This money is for the old man to pay, not for you."

"You're a really nice guy," Zhang San exclaimed, then said, "Five dollars."

"OK!" The driver immediately perked up when he heard "dollars."

Zhang San said, "Come pick us up at nine o'clock tomorrow. I'll hire your car for twenty dollars a day."

Upon hearing this, the driver immediately replied happily, "NO PROBLEM!"

The Huating Hotel, the first hotel here catering to foreign guests, is very well-built, and Allen remarked, "The environment here is quite nice."

Zhang San smiled but didn't say anything. The two checked into the hotel, paying in US dollars, which were very convenient.

The two went into the room and fell asleep immediately. The next morning, after breakfast, they saw the same taxi from the day before waiting there.

Zhang San waved, and the other party saw him and immediately drove over.

"Go to the investment promotion office."

On the way, the driver laughed and said, "Comrade, your Mandarin is very standard."

"I came to America from Beijing last year, and today I brought a businessman with me to do business here."

"This is a contribution to economic development."

"It's alright."

They chatted casually for a bit and then arrived at the investment promotion office. Zhang San told him to stop there and wait for them. Zhang San and Allen easily entered the office, and the security guard kindly had someone take them there.

"Hello, leader, I am Zhang San, and this is Allen, Allen Smith. We are directors of the Inter-American Recycling Fund."

Zhang San smiled and introduced himself and Allen, explaining their respective identities.

"Hello, hello, I'm Director Chen from the Investment Promotion Office. What brings you here?"

Director Chen looked at the two young men with amusement, as if he were watching a show. In his eyes, they were like the con artists who had recently come to the mainland to scam people; he had heard a lot about them.

In theory, Zhang San and Allen were practically swindlers, or you could call them middlemen, but they only had that title before they came out, and they wanted to make money out of nothing.

"We've taken on a job to help process waste paper in North America. I'd like to talk to you about whether you need any waste paper."

Oh, you're not here to invest and then ask for a loan? Then we can talk. I didn't expect these two young people to be so capable.

"What do you all think?"

Zhang San first handed over his and Allen's business cards before saying, "Our Pan-American Recycling Foundation is an environmental charitable foundation that primarily raises funds for environmental protection in North America..."

To gain someone's trust, you must be bold and make your name resounding; the Pan American Recycling Fund is quite intimidating; and Zhang San's eloquent introduction convinced Director Chen on the other side.

Director Chen knows some English, but he can only read it and not speak it. It does indeed say that it is the Pan American Recycling Fund and the names are Stephen Zhang and Alan Smith.

"...The fund wants to find partners in mainland China to sell these worthless papers to you."

Finally, Zhang Sancai got to the point. Upon hearing about selling waste paper, Director Chen said he didn't understand this business and needed to consult with someone.

Director Chen doesn't understand, so he won't jump to conclusions. He'll find someone who does. He'll arrange for the investment promotion office to entertain the two people first, and then he'll make a phone call.

First, they called the paper mill, and when they heard there was a large amount of waste paper, they immediately said it was a big deal and they had to close it. Then they contacted other departments and finally handed it over to the import and export company to handle and coordinate the matter.

After making a round of phone calls, Director Chen was certain that these two people were not scammers; the person who sold him the product was definitely not a scammer.

When he returned, he became very enthusiastic towards Zhang San and Allen.

"Mr. Zhang, please wait a moment. Our relevant personnel will be here to speak with you shortly..."

After the two sides chatted for a while, an import and export company came in and talked to them about the matter.

"Our Pan-American Recycling Fund was established recently to help them conduct foreign trade with you. Settlement might not be feasible for them. After we return, we'll register another company specifically to work with you."

The import/export company representative said, "We're facing a tight foreign exchange situation. Could we perhaps use a different settlement method?"

Zhang San was waiting for them here. He said, "Oh, how do you say that?"

"Mr. Zhang, you came from the mainland, so you naturally know the situation there. Since we lack foreign exchange, can we settle the payment with goods?"

Zhang San naturally knew that foreign exchange was scarce, and he was waiting for them there. After thinking for a moment, he said, "We'll go back to North America and look into it. Then we'll contact you again."

"How about I treat you to dinner tonight?"

Zhang San mentioned the meal arrangement to Allen. Allen had Western food for breakfast and hadn't tried local cuisine before, so he nodded in agreement.

Allen hadn't said anything until now, but now that he'd revealed his true intentions, they realized that Zhang San was the one in charge of this deal.

At the table, the people kept trying to get information out of Zhang San, and Zhang San naturally didn't hide anything. When he talked about how he got married right after graduation, then immigrated to North America not long after, and then his wife died not long after, everyone at the table sighed.

"It's okay, I've recovered. I've dedicated myself to charity work..."

Zhang San started bragging, making himself seem like a saint; people who didn't know the truth actually believed him.
