Chapter 15: The Gift?
Chapter 15: The Gift?
"What brings Your Excellency to my humble abode? What guidance do you offer?"
Wes became secretly on guard against the Ancient One's sudden visit.
If the Ancient One makes the slightest movement, he will immediately activate the time travel function on the panel without hesitation and escape as quickly as possible.
After all, he was technically just an "illegal immigrant," and in front of the Ancient One, who protected the Earth, he couldn't help but feel a little guilty.
"I meant no harm, Wizard Erwin, I was just curious."
With a calm expression, the Ancient One waved her hand gently, and a chair slowly floated behind Wes.
"I have many questions. Can you answer them for me, Wizard Erwin?"
The Ancient One looked at Wes with a questioning gaze.
Wes took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down.
He knew in his heart that even if he managed to escape the first day of the month by sheer luck, he would inevitably not escape the fifteenth.
It would be better to have a proper conversation while the Ancient One is currently showing no ill intent, so that we won't have to live in constant fear afterward.
Wes slowly sat down and said, "I will try my best to answer any questions you may have, Mage."
"I stumbled upon you while observing the timeline," the Ancient One said, tilting her head slightly. "You are so special. Among the countless intersecting timelines, only you on this particular timeline became a wizard and possess the magical ability to travel between worlds."
Wes felt as if he were completely naked in front of the Ancient One, with all his secrets exposed, and his body involuntarily tensed up.
The Ancient One sensed Wes's unease: "I'm sorry, Wizard Erwin, but my responsibilities do not allow me to ignore someone as special as you."
"I thought the mage wouldn't pay much attention to me." Wes's voice was slightly hoarse.
"Although you are extremely careful every time you use your ability, avoiding all possible cameras and staying far away from crowds."
The Ancient One waved his hand again, and a lifelike projection of the Earth instantly appeared, floating quietly in mid-air.
The Earth was tightly enveloped by a massive and complex barrier.
"After banishing the demons of hell, Dormammu, and other demon gods from Earth, I set up this barrier on Earth."
The Ancient One's gaze fell on the projection of the barrier, and she explained:
"Firstly, it is to prevent these demons from other dimensions from invading Earth again, and secondly, it can also serve as a comprehensive monitoring tool."
Looking at the complex, dazzling, and incredibly vast barrier projected on the screen, Wes couldn't help but marvel at the power of the Ancient One.
"Ten years ago, in the summer, the barrier detected an unknown source of magic. Driven by curiosity, I began to explore and discovered you."
The Ancient One's gaze returned to Wes, and she said with a hint of reminiscence:
"Back then, you were a little wizard robbing thugs."
Wes's lips twitched involuntarily, and he secretly groaned in his heart, never expecting to be discovered the first time he returned from the Harry Potter world.
"The magic you used was quite novel. I originally planned to guide you to Kamar-Taj, but in September of that year, you suddenly disappeared from this world without a trace. I searched the entire earth but could not find any trace of you."
"Even using the Time Stone, we couldn't detect your presence, so I deduce that you went to another world."
"The following summer, the barrier detected your presence once again."
The Ancient One, who appeared out of nowhere, handed Wes a steaming cup of tea and said with a smile, "This is a drink from the East. I hope you like it."
Wes took the teacup, a complex emotion flashing in his eyes, but he quickly regained his composure.
He nodded slightly in gratitude, then slowly said, "So, Master, you've come here to deal with me?"
The moment Weiss asked that question, he was already prepared to run away at any moment.
The Ancient One looked at Wes with a strange expression: "Why would you think that?"
"In this world, great power is always accompanied by danger," Wes replied.
The Ancient One gently shook her head and sighed, "Are all young people these days so extreme?"
Wes touched his nose and said helplessly, "My abilities might bring a huge disaster to this world someday."
"That's just one possibility, but it could also bring new hope to the world."
Wes shook his head repeatedly, and said self-deprecatingly, "I'm not some superhero, don't think of me as so noble and great."
Even the devil can bring hope.
Wes was speechless and inwardly grumbled.
[The fact that the seemingly unrelated words "devil" and "hope" were used together, especially coming from the Sorcerer Supreme, makes one wonder what the demons who were once soundly defeated by the Ancient One would think if they heard this.]
"So, Ancient One, what exactly is your purpose in seeking me out?"
Wes couldn't help but ask again.
"Just out of curiosity," the Ancient One replied casually.
Not a single mistake, not a single poem, not a single post, not a single piece of content, not a single look!
"Curious???" Wes looked incredulous.
"Is it not permissible for an old man to have curiosity?" The Ancient One tilted his head, a hint of mischief in his eyes.
Wes thought to himself, "This is ridiculous."
[You'd better stop tilting your head. Someone who's lived for who knows how many years looks not cute tilting their head at all.]
However, the panel's ability to travel through time is Wes's trump card, and he is unwilling to reveal it to others.
Even the Sorcerer Supreme is the same.
Wes's silence made the Ancient One realize that Wes would not reveal his secret.
She wasn't angry; everyone has the right to protect their own secrets.
"Wes, you're lucky. Your abilities have given you endless possibilities, but as someone who's been there, I want to give you some advice."
"Please speak," Wes said solemnly, listening attentively.
With a serious expression, the Ancient One solemnly instructed, "Always maintain your curiosity about magic."
Wes agreed with this statement, as he had been learning higher levels of magical knowledge along the way.
Gu Yi found Weiss, this junior, increasingly pleasing to the eye, and said with a smile, "My sudden visit has caused you a lot of trouble, so I would like to give you a gift as compensation."
Wes breathed a sigh of relief; it turned out that the Ancient One hadn't come to cause him any trouble.
So you knew about this too!
He was even somewhat looking forward to seeing what kind of gift this big shot would give him.
[The Sorcerer Supreme is certainly not stingy; will it be a spellbook or a powerful magical weapon?]
The Ancient One did not produce the gift she had mentioned, but continued speaking:
Have you ever heard of the name Mephisto?
Upon hearing this, Wes felt as if he had fallen into an ice cellar, and his face instantly turned deathly pale: "If you want me to die, just do it yourself. There's no need to use someone else to do it."
