Chapter 162 I'm terrible at naming things
News of Wes in Hell's Kitchen spread like wildfire throughout the underworld at an astonishing speed.
The message even included precise coordinates.
In an instant, all the shady characters hiding in the shadows of New York were stirred up by this sudden news.
No one who has survived to this day in the underworld is a fool.
They all knew very well that the $3 million bounty was not so easy to obtain.
The target either has an overwhelming background, making those who try to get their hands on them face terrible retaliation at any time; or they themselves possess immense power, capable of easily crushing those who overestimate themselves.
Based on the information we have now, the latter is more likely.
Some of the more rational individuals, after careful consideration, decisively decided to abandon this seemingly tempting but actually dangerous mission.
They understood that life was far more precious than wealth, and that they could not risk their lives for momentary greed.
However, many more people were blinded by the high bounty, and their greedy desires, like wildly growing weeds, took over their hearts.
"I'm just a worthless life, but I'll take a gamble and turn a bicycle into a motorcycle."
Some people gritted their teeth, their eyes flashing with a crazy light, as if they could already see the wonderful life they would have after becoming rich overnight.
"What if... what if I manage to snag a bargain?"
Some people harbor a sliver of hope, clinging to unrealistic fantasies, expecting Lady Luck to smile upon them.
Some of these unwilling and hopeful individuals formed temporary teams, looking out for each other and trying to increase their chances of winning in this dangerous adventure.
There are also some lone wolves who are very confident in their abilities, standing proudly in the crowd and exuding absolute confidence in their skills.
These people flooded into Hell's Kitchen from all corners of New York.
Their figures moved through the dimly lit streets, the sounds of footsteps and the clash of weapons shattering the tranquility of Hell's Kitchen.
These actions by the New York underworld could not be kept secret from S.H.I.E.L.D., nor could they be kept from the NYPD (New York Police Department).
"Are these people crazy?" The NYPD commissioner roared angrily as he watched the crowd pouring into Hell's Kitchen on the monitor screen.
To prevent these people from causing a ruckus in New York, the New York Police Department urgently recalled all its officers.
In an instant, sirens wailed throughout the streets and alleys of New York, as police officers rushed to their posts with tense expressions.
The police officers breathed a sigh of relief after seeing all of these people enter Hell's Kitchen.
They quickly deployed police forces to seal off the entire Hell's Kitchen from one direction, allowing everyone to enter but not leave.
What about the residents of Hell's Kitchen?
Since they're already in "hell," how much worse can things get?
As night fell, darkness enveloped the entire city like a giant curtain.
The abandoned building was surrounded by a large group of people, all of whom looked menacing.
Some of them were burly with menacing faces, while others had cold, sinister eyes that sent chills down one's spine.
They were armed with all sorts of weapons, including pistols, rifles, submachine guns, and some were even carrying rocket launchers.
Finally, someone, unable to contain their anxiety, stepped into the building first.
Seeing this, the others quickly followed, afraid that falling behind would mean losing the tempting reward.
Intelligence agents from various organizations were already in place around the building.
S.H.I.E.L.D., Hydra, the CIA, the FBI, and other secret organizations whose names are unknown, like ghosts hidden in the darkness, silently watch all of this.
They weren't there for the bounty, but to broadcast what was happening here to their superiors and await instructions.
Weiss remained quietly on the fifth floor of the building, surrounded by floating candles that emitted a soft glow, like loyal guardians dispelling the darkness.
The flickering candlelight cast dappled shadows on the wall, creating a mysterious and tranquil atmosphere.
Sensing the commotion downstairs, Wes slowly raised his head from his book, his eyes revealing a hint of indifference and coldness.
"Of all these people, how many will actually get to me?" Wes murmured to himself.
Then he lowered his head again and focused his attention back on the book in his hands. In his opinion, these miscellaneous fish were far less attractive than the book in his hands.
As soon as these assassins entered the first level, they felt dizzy and lightheaded, as if the whole world was spinning.
The sudden discomfort startled them, and before they could react, at least half of them rolled their eyes back and fell straight to the ground, lifeless.
"What's going on?" someone shouted in alarm, their voice filled with unease and fear.
"Damn it, they're all dead!!"
Another person roared in despair.
Although the remaining people were panicked, they still maintained basic rationality.
They quickly formed a circle back to back, cautiously observing their surroundings.
Not a single mistake, not a single poem, not a single post, not a single piece of content, not a single look!
Wes set up a magic circle on the first floor.
This magic circle has a special function: to launch mental attacks.
If an average person's mental strength is 1, then only someone with a mental strength of 1.5 can withstand this attack.
Those who could not resist naturally lost their lives in an instant.
What ordinary people cannot see is that the souls of the dead are taken away by a mysterious lamp.
"Get out of here, this place is too eerie!"
Someone cried out in terror, his voice echoing in the silent space, sounding particularly jarring.
These people were terrified. They began to regret their greed and their decision to risk coming to this terrible place for the high bounty.
However, while getting in is easy, getting out is not so easy.
Wes had already set up a barrier, allowing entry but not exit.
These people were blocked by an invisible protective shield, and no matter how hard they tried, they could not break through this barrier.
Some people shoot at the shield with guns, but the bullets only create tiny sparks when they hit it, and cannot penetrate it.
Some even used bombs, and the huge explosions echoed in the enclosed space, but the protective shield remained completely unmoved.
"FXXK!!" someone cursed angrily, feeling utterly desperate and helpless.
"He's forcing us to move up the ranks!!"
"That's what the other person said in despair."
The remaining people exchanged glances, and all saw the fear in each other's eyes.
However, they had no choice but to unite and try to find a way out in this desperate situation.
Nothing was happening inside the building; the silence was eerily quiet.
