Chapter 294 A Failed Attempt
Chapter 294 A Failed Attempt
"Oh dear~, can we pass through?"
Aokiji's unique, slightly languid voice echoed through the harbor, lingering in everyone's ears.
His tall, somewhat casual figure stood at the bow of the ship, his eyes seemingly casual yet revealing an indescribable depth.
If Akainu were here, he would probably treat these civilians blocking the way of the Marines without hesitation as pirates. Given his tough and aggressive style, he would definitely use ruthless methods to forcibly open a path.
However, as a representative of the doves, Aokiji's attitude towards ordinary people was obviously much gentler. Although his words contained a sense of pleading, they also carried an unquestionable authority.
"We will never trust the Navy again."
An old man shouted angrily, his weathered face etched with vicissitudes and resentment.
"That's right, they're in cahoots with Doflamingo!" another young man shouted.
The crowd grew increasingly agitated, raising all sorts of weapons in their hands—dilapidated farm tools, homemade swords, and other items originally intended for peaceful work or self-defense—and now pointing them directly at the navy.
Seeing this, the naval soldiers reacted quickly, pointing their guns at the angry crowd in front of them with practiced ease.
For a moment, the atmosphere at the port became extremely tense. The air seemed to be frozen by the tense standoff, and both sides were on edge. The situation was like a bomb about to explode.
"Oh dear~ you all need to calm down, calm down."
Aokiji continued to try to de-escalate the situation with his seemingly relaxed tone, knowing full well that once the fighting started, it would lead to an irreparable tragedy.
He did not want to harm these innocent civilians; deep in his heart, he always felt a sense of pity for them.
He slowly activated his freezing ability, and the surrounding temperature began to drop sharply. Wisps of cold air spread from his body, like a pair of invisible, icy giant hands gradually extending outwards.
He simply wanted to freeze these agitated civilians for a while, temporarily incapacitating them to avoid bloodshed.
"Stop it."
Wes appeared before everyone like a ghost.
[My Observation Haki didn't detect it; was it teleportation?]
Aokiji was startled. His previously casual gaze instantly sharpened as he scrutinized Wes, trying to find some clues about him.
"I think you've come to see me," Wes said casually.
Upon hearing Wes's words, the sailors quickly turned their guns on him.
"I don't like having a gun pointed at me," Wes said softly, frowning slightly.
The moment he finished speaking, something strange happened: the navy soldiers pointed their guns at each other.
Their faces showed fear and confusion, and their fingers were about to pull the trigger uncontrollably.
"Hoo~" Upon seeing this, Aokiji hurriedly exhaled a breath of cold air, instantly freezing hundreds of marines and preventing the tragedy of them killing each other.
A hint of seriousness flashed in Aokiji's eyes. He knew that Wes was no ordinary person and possessed an unfathomable and powerful strength.
"Interesting. I wonder how it compares to my freezing magic."
Wes raised his head slightly, a hint of curiosity and challenge flashing in his eyes.
He wanted to test Aokiji's strength and see what made this Marine Admiral so special.
On the surface, Aokiji maintained a relaxed demeanor, with even a faint smile on his lips, but in reality, he was on high alert.
"I didn't come here to fight."
Aokiji spoke slowly, trying to ease the tense atmosphere again, not wanting to fight Wes easily.
"Oh?" Wes raised his eyebrows slightly, his eyes filled with a mixture of doubt and anticipation.
"I'm here to extend an invitation," Aokiji said, his expression turning serious and solemn, "to invite you to become one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea."
"No interest. I don't want to be someone else's dog." Wes refused without hesitation or compromise.
"That's really harsh, bro." Aokiji frowned slightly, feeling somewhat helpless at Wes's blunt rejection and sharp words.
"If there's nothing else, leave now. This is my territory."
Wes's tone hardened.
"That won't do. Dressrosa is a member state of the World Government."
Aokiji tried to argue his case.
"Not anymore," Wes said calmly, his words exploding in Aokiji's ears like a bombshell.
Aokiji was stunned. He never expected Wes to be so bold as to declare that Dressrosa had seceded from its status as a member state of the World Government.
Not a single mistake, not a single poem, not a single post, not a single piece of content, not a single look!
His face darkened instantly, his eyes flashing with anger and shock. "Do you know what you're saying?"
His voice was low and suppressed.
"Didn't you hear me?" Aokiji's gaze was fixed on Wes, his eyes now colder. "That's quite a bold statement. Does he not respect the World Government at all?"
His question echoed in the air, carrying the authority of a naval admiral and a defense of the World Government's authority.
"What's there to be afraid of when it's just a civilization that hasn't even left its own planet?" Wes replied nonchalantly, his tone revealing a disdain for the World Government.
"Are you really an alien?" Aokiji's curiosity was completely piqued, and he began to try to find out information about Wes.
In his view, the identity and background of this suddenly appearing man with great power are of great importance, and perhaps he can find a way to deal with him from his background.
"My identity will be published in the World Economic Journal tomorrow."
After saying that, Weiss turned and walked away with an air of nonchalance.
"Hey, where's Doflamingo?"
Seeing that Wes was about to leave, Aokiji quickly brought up one of the important purposes of his visit.
The complex forces and numerous secrets behind Doflamingo cannot be allowed to simply disappear without explanation.
"I used her as a guinea pig."
Wes's answer was simple and direct, but it made Aokiji's heart sink.
"Oh dear~, things are turning out the worst possible way."
Aokiji scratched his head helplessly. He could foresee that the world was about to descend into chaos because of Wes's appearance and actions.
"The mission has been a complete failure."
Aokiji sighed inwardly. He had originally hoped to successfully recruit Wes into the Seven Warlords of the Sea and to figure out the relevant matters after Doflamingo's downfall, but now both of these goals had vanished.
He stood there for a long time, gazing in the direction Weiss had gone, pondering how to report this terrible situation to Marshal Sengoku.
