Chapter 330 The Interview?
Chapter 330 The Interview?
"I never imagined Dressrosa would become so prosperous."
As Kuzan spoke, he looked around curiously. The streets were full of tourists, chatting and laughing, as if this were a peaceful paradise, showing no signs of being a place ruled by pirates.
Law didn't respond. He remained skeptical of Kuzan's words. After all, Kuzan was a former Marine Admiral, and now he suddenly wanted to join a pirate crew. Law felt his words were hard to believe, so he simply stood quietly to the side, offering no reply.
Kuzan didn't seem embarrassed at all, and continued to observe everything around him.
[They call themselves a pirate crew, but they don't even have their own flag, and only the Heart Pirates among their members were former pirates.]
Kuzan thought to himself that this was indeed different from the pirate crews he knew before, and it felt strange everywhere.
Here, the soldiers of the original Dressrosa Kingdom are still maintaining order. They are dressed in neat uniforms and patrol in an orderly manner, ensuring the peace of this land.
The current prosperity of Dressrosa has actually had little to do with Wes.
He was a complete hands-off manager, spending all his time in the lab with Vegapunk, often not coming out for days on end, leaving all the trivial matters outside to Law and the others to handle.
It was Violet who truly revitalized Dressrosa, even elevating it to a higher level than before.
Her years in the Don Quixote family were not wasted; she learned a great deal there, especially in business, where she developed her own set of logic.
At her suggestion, Dressrosa was transformed into a transit point for the underworld.
They don't participate in any actual business transactions; they simply extract commissions from the transactions.
This has ironically attracted countless criminals.
After all, the world situation has become unpredictable since the Marineford War, and finding a safe place where everyone can feel at ease to conduct transactions is not an easy task.
Dressrosa perfectly fits all these criteria; it's like a safe haven in a storm, possessing an invisible deterrent that keeps those with ill intentions from running rampant there.
Unless someone thinks they are stronger than the Big Mom Pirates, no one will dare to cause trouble here.
Those who come here also abide by the rules, each one being honest and focused on completing the transaction peacefully and then leaving.
In this way, little by little, Dressrosa amassed a fortune from these commissions, more than enough to keep the entire country running.
Moreover, besides those who come to conduct underground transactions, there are also quite a few tourists who come to have fun, and all kinds of entertainment venues can be seen everywhere on the streets, making it a lively place.
The people of Dressrosa were all beaming with happiness, a truly rare sight in these turbulent times.
Even among the member states of the World Government, few countries are as wealthy as Dressrosa.
Is this really a country ruled by pirates?
Looking at the prosperous and peaceful scene before him, Kuzan couldn't help but ask himself this question. This was completely different from the pirate-ruled country he had imagined. He had thought it would be a place full of chaos, burning, killing, and looting, but reality gave him such a big contrast.
Kuzan is becoming increasingly interested in Wes.
After following Luo and the others, they arrived at the King's Highlands. As soon as they reached the castle gate, they saw Cyrus already waiting there.
"I thought you were joking." Cyrus looked at Kuzan with disbelief on his face. After all, it was unbelievable to anyone that Kuzan, who was once a Marine Admiral, was now going to join the ranks of pirates.
Therefore, Cyrus believed deep down that Kuzan was probably just joking.
"Alright, I need to eat too!"
Kuzan responded with a smile, trying to explain his purpose with this seemingly casual excuse.
Koro and Cyrus did not believe his explanation at all; in their view, Kuzan must have had a deeper purpose in doing so.
However, whether or not to accept Kuzan is not something that the two of them can decide; ultimately, it depends on Wes's decision.
The group made their way to the top floor of the castle. Luo stepped forward and opened the door, where they saw Wes sitting on the sofa, quietly reading a book. The warm sunlight shone on him, and the scene looked unusually peaceful and serene. It was impossible to tell that this young man was one of the Four Emperors who commanded great power; he seemed to be just an ordinary book lover.
Hearing the noise, Wes looked up at Kuzan with a faint smile and asked, "Do you like coffee?"
"Well enough."
Kuzan responded, then walked over and sat down opposite Wes, picked up his coffee and took a sip. The rich flavor spread in his mouth; it was quite good.
"You want to join us?" Wes put down his book, looked directly at Kuzan, and asked bluntly.
Not a single mistake, not a single poem, not a single post, not a single piece of content, not a single look!
"Yes."
Kuzan answered without hesitation, though he was thinking that he would have to explain his thoughts and reasons for joining.
"Can."
However, to Kuzan's utter surprise, Wes agreed so readily, rendering his elaborate explanations useless and leaving him somewhat at a loss.
"You trust me that much?"
Kuzan stared wide-eyed, looking puzzled. He couldn't understand why Wes agreed so easily. Wasn't he worried that he might have some other ulterior motive?
"trust?"
Wes tilted his head, a look of doubt on his face, and then said, "We've never even met, what's there to trust about?"
Kuzan was even more confused by Wes's thoughts after hearing this, and his mind was full of doubts.
"The worst-case scenario is that you are an undercover agent sent by the Navy and the World Government to gather intelligence and eventually kill me from the inside."
Wes, however, spoke these terrifying words as if they were a very ordinary matter, uttering them in a casual and understated manner.
Upon hearing this, Luo and Cyrus immediately glared at Kuzan with hostility, their eyes filled with vigilance.
Cyrus, in particular, had his right hand already unconsciously resting on the hilt of his sword. As soon as Wes gave the order, he would launch an attack on Kuzan without hesitation.
