Chapter 406 Debate

"We need to talk."

Steve looked at Wes with a serious expression and a firm gaze. His tone left no room for argument, as if to tell Wes that there was no escaping this conversation today.

Hearing this, Wes sighed helplessly. He knew very well that once Steve made up his mind, it was difficult for him to change it easily.

Wes had his own considerations, and immediately stated bluntly, "Steve, we're not on the same page!"

After saying that, he turned to leave, not wanting to get entangled with Steve.

But Steve wasn't about to let him leave so easily.

The shield in his hand drew a beautiful arc in the air before landing firmly in the ground beneath Wes' feet with a "clang," blocking his path.

"Alright, let's talk then."

Seeing Steve's relentless determination, Wes sighed inwardly, raised his hand, and gently waved it, causing a strange ripple of magical energy to spread through the air.

Two exquisite chairs appeared out of thin air and landed steadily on the grass.

Wes walked to a chair first, sat down slowly, and gestured for Steve to sit down as well. The two then sat facing each other.

Wes narrowed his eyes slightly and looked at Steve quietly. He could roughly guess what Steve was going to say.

Sure enough, as soon as Steve sat down, he began to talk non-stop, spouting all sorts of well-known platitudes.

He began by recounting his past struggles against Hydra and the arduous journey to defeat the Nazis, and then spoke of his current role as a superhero, shouldering the responsibility of protecting the world and maintaining peace. His words were earnest, and his eyes were filled with sincerity and determination, as if he wanted to move Wes with these experiences and beliefs.

However, Wes gradually grew impatient. He couldn't stand these clichés any longer, so he raised his hand and bluntly stopped Steve's nonsense, saying, "After all this talk, what you're trying to say is nothing more than 'With great power comes great responsibility.'"

"right!!"

Upon hearing this, Steve's eyes lit up as if he had found a kindred spirit. He hadn't expected Wes to summarize his core points so concisely and clearly, and he couldn't help but admire Wes's comprehension.

"On what grounds?"

Wes didn't stop asking questions just because Steve approved. Instead, his tone became even sharper, and he stared intently at Steve as he continued.

"If with great power comes great responsibility, why haven't I seen capitalists proactively raising workers' wages? Why haven't I seen governments genuinely addressing poverty? Why haven't I seen those powerful and wealthy individuals truly making efforts for world peace, instead of only engaging in power struggles and waging wars?"

Wes's series of questions were like sharp blades, piercing straight to the core of the problem, leaving Steve speechless for a moment.

"With great power comes great responsibility? It should be: with great power comes great responsibility."

Wes leaned forward slightly, looking directly into Steve's eyes, his gaze cold and profound. "You should be saying these things to those capitalists and politicians. They started this war, they're the ones manipulating everything behind the scenes, plunging the world into chaos and causing countless people to suffer. And you, you're here telling me about 'with great power comes great responsibility.' Have you ever considered who you're fighting for, and who truly benefits from everything you've done?"

Steve was deeply shocked by Wes's words. He opened his mouth to refute them, but found that he couldn't find a suitable reason.

His long-held beliefs began to waver under Wes's questioning. For the first time, he began to seriously consider what he had been fighting for all these years.

Originally, he wanted to persuade Wes to join his side and work together for so-called justice and peace, but unexpectedly, he is now in a deep state of confusion.

Steve shook his head with a wry smile. He knew he had lost this conversation completely. He had no reason to keep Wes, so he could only let Wes stand up and leave.

Watching Wes's retreating figure, Steve sat alone in his chair, motionless for a long time, his heart filled with confusion and struggle. He was deep in thought about what path he should take in the future.

After getting rid of Steve, Wes opened a spatial portal; according to his original plan, his destination was supposed to be Washington.

He was quite curious about the current situation in Washington and wanted to see for himself what it had become under the influence of various complex circumstances.

The next second, Wes felt a sudden change in light and shadow before his eyes, and the surrounding environment changed abruptly. A biting cold wind howled and rushed towards him, and he found himself on the Himalayas.

Here, the land is covered in ice and snow, with a fierce wind raging. The wind carries snowflakes that fly everywhere, stinging the face like knives and making it almost impossible to open one's eyes.

All around were rolling snow-capped mountains, shimmering with a cold light under the sunlight, a world draped in silver, exuding endless loneliness and cold.

"I hope you don't mind that I'm bothering you so suddenly."

A calm yet powerful voice rang out. Wes looked in the direction of the voice and saw the figure of the Ancient One slowly emerge. She was wearing her signature yellow robes, her posture was upright, and her face was serene.

"Okay, what is it now?"

Wes sighed helplessly. After being targeted by Mephisto last time, he made up his mind to avoid any involvement with the Ancient One as much as possible.

After all, the Ancient One is involved in too many complicated causes and effects. Every time he comes into contact with her, it seems to bring him unexpected trouble. He doesn't want to get involved in those tangled and complicated matters again.

"I'm going to die."

Not a single mistake, not a single poem, not a single post, not a single piece of content, not a single look!

Ancient One's tone remained calm, as if he were recounting an ordinary little matter.

Wes wasn't too surprised.

"It seems you've found a suitable successor."

Wes glanced at the Ancient One and said calmly.

He knew in his heart that the Ancient One must have made arrangements long ago. With her foresight, she would never allow the important position of the Sorcerer Supreme, who was in charge of maintaining the balance of the world, to be left vacant.

"Stephen will be the most outstanding Sorcerer Supreme among us."

The Ancient One nodded slightly, and when she mentioned Stephen, a hint of relief and expectation appeared in her eyes, clearly showing her full confidence in this successor.

Wes simply shrugged, looking indifferent, indicating that it had nothing to do with him. He was currently focused on his own affairs and had no intention of getting involved in anything like the Sorcerer Supreme's legacy.

"Your appearance has disrupted the timeline."

Ancient One's gaze sharpened.

"I need your help."

She took a step forward, her eyes filled with earnestness.

"There's nothing I can do to help."

Weiss, however, did not hesitate and decisively rejected her request.
