Chapter 522 Conspiracy
Chapter 522 Conspiracy
"What are the conditions?"
Spencer Quentin understands that there is no such thing as a free lunch, and every seemingly unexpected "gift" often comes with a corresponding price.
He slightly raised his chin, a faint smile playing on his lips, his eyes revealing a worldly wisdom and composure, as if he had already anticipated Philcoulson's next words.
"First, 3000 Awakened Ones joined the army."
Phil Coulson’s voice was deep and steady, his eyes fixed on Spencer, observing his every reaction.
Upon hearing this condition, Spencer raised his eyebrows almost imperceptibly.
"Secondly, the government will send officials to jointly manage Seattle with you."
Coulson continued, his tone leaving no room for negotiation.
Spencer's smile faded slightly, and a hint of displeasure flashed in his eyes. He instinctively felt that this condition posed a potential threat to his leadership.
"third."
Before Phil Coulson could finish speaking, Quentin interrupted him.
"How greedy." His tone was filled with undisguised contempt, and his gaze was fixed on Coulson.
Phil Coulson shrugged, a helpless expression on his face, and spread his hands, saying, "This is the best I could get."
"What about that matter?"
Spencer pressed on.
The matter he was referring to concerns a deep-seated obsession within all awakened beings.
Coulson handed over a document, his arm slightly outstretched, his eyes holding a complex expression—a mixture of concern for the document's contents and a desire to observe Spencer Quentin's reaction upon seeing them.
"Wes Irwin, he's the one who turned you into Awakeners."
Spencer took the document, his fingers gently pinching the edge of it, a seemingly casual gesture that actually carried a hint of tension.
He slowly turned the pages, his eyes quickly scanning each line of text.
It contained detailed information about Wes, and the dense text, like an invisible thread, outlined Wes's past little by little.
When he saw the description of the "Mind Stone," Spencer's gaze suddenly sharpened, and his pupils contracted slightly.
"To facilitate the evolution into an Awakened One through the Mind Stone."
He read the sentence aloud, his tone carrying a hint of surprise and sudden realization.
"He is not your creator," Coulson couldn't help but say, his voice tinged with worry.
He was well aware of how much the Awakened group valued their origins and feared that they might develop an inappropriate sense of belonging to Weiss because of his actions in facilitating their awakening.
"The creator?" Spencer scoffed, his laughter filled with disdain and anger.
He raised his head, his eyes narrowed slightly, and his gaze burned with anger.
"He did this just to cause trouble for the United States. Because of his recklessness, we have lost our compatriots, family members, and friends."
His voice gradually rose, each word seeming to be squeezed out from between his teeth, filled with deep hatred.
"He is our enemy!"
He practically roared those words, his voice echoing across the town hall terrace, as if he were trying to unleash the fury in his heart.
Hearing Spencer say that, Coulson breathed a sigh of relief and relaxed his tense shoulders slightly.
He had been worried that Spencer would develop feelings for Weiss, but now it seemed that his worries were unnecessary.
"No other information?"
Spencer calmed down a bit and turned his gaze back to the documents, his tone tinged with urgency.
He desperately wanted to know more about Wes, the man who had drastically changed the fate of him and his companions; he had to keep track of his every move.
"His whereabouts are very mysterious; this is all the information we've gathered so far."
Coulson shook his head helplessly, a wry smile on his face.
Wes is like a mystery; they went to great lengths and only obtained this limited information.
"Um."
Spencer responded softly, making the information deeply imprinted in his mind.
"I've heard that your S.H.I.E.L.D. has quite a few good things."
Spencer's lips curled up slightly, a meaningful smile playing on his lips, his gaze fixed intently on Coulson.
It's obvious he's setting conditions.
Although S.H.I.E.L.D. has collapsed, it still has deep roots and maintains secret bases all over the world.
These secret bases were extremely well-hidden and were never recorded in any public documents; they existed only in Nick Fury's unfathomable mind.
Now, this secret has been inherited by Coulson.
The latest novel is first published here!
"What do you want?" Coulson frowned slightly, already guessing that Spencer had something to do, but still asked.
"Weapons," Spencer said without hesitation, looking directly into Coulson's eyes, "the most advanced weapons."
His voice was firm and powerful, leaving no room for doubt.
While the Awakened possess special abilities, there are still many ordinary people in the city of Seattle.
Current standard firearms are no longer sufficient to meet the needs in dealing with various potential crises.
If awakened individuals are equipped with advanced weapons and receive simple training, they are very likely to become powerful super soldiers.
This will not only greatly enhance the city's defense capabilities, but also provide more means of response when facing unknown threats.
Upon hearing this, Coulson felt a pang of inner turmoil.
The advanced weapons of S.H.I.E.L.D. were once an important force in maintaining world peace. If they are easily handed over to Spencer, who knows what kind of changes it will bring.
He quickly weighed the pros and cons in his mind.
"Don't we have a common enemy?"
Spencer's deep voice struck Coulson's heart.
It instantly shattered Coulson's long-held psychological defenses.
The common enemy Spencer spoke of was undoubtedly Weiss.
The downfall of S.H.I.E.L.D. was inextricably linked to Wes.
The claim that S.H.I.E.L.D. is an "organization that maintains world peace" is nothing but a self-deceiving facade that can only fool naive fools.
In reality, S.H.I.E.L.D. has always served the United States.
Everyone knows what the United States does on the international stage.
It calls itself the "world police" and interferes in the internal affairs of other countries, but in reality, it does the work of a "world robber".
Its principle of "those who are not on my side are the enemy" has plunged countless countries into dire straits.
Spencer slightly raised his chin and continued, "Coulson, you and I both know that S.H.I.E.L.D. has seemed incredibly successful these past few years, but behind the scenes, they've been fighting for American interests. Wes, his arrival disrupted the situation the US wanted to maintain, and S.H.I.E.L.D. has been affected as a result. Isn't he an obstacle to us all?"
Coulson fell silent, lowered his head, and unconsciously clenched his fists.
Spencer's words were all reasonable, and he could not refute them.
Coulson slowly raised his head, the struggle in his eyes gradually fading, replaced by a resolute look: "You're right, we have a common enemy."
