Chapter 533 Consciousness

David, as if he had lost his soul, left the refugee area with unsteady steps, wandering aimlessly on the edge of the city like a walking corpse.

At this moment, his heart was filled with despair and pain. In his eyes, the whole world had become dark and colorless.

"stop!!"

A sharp shout suddenly rang in his ears.

It instantly jolted him out of his confused thoughts.

David slowly raised his head and saw a soldier holding a gun, the dark muzzle pointed directly at him, his eyes full of vigilance and impatience.

"Get out of here right now, this is not a place for you."

The soldier shouted again, his tone cold, firm, and unquestionable.

David then realized that he had unknowingly walked to the edge of the city, which is what people often call the "rich area".

He slowly turned around, his gaze passing over the soldiers and looking towards the city behind him.

The place remains bustling and lively, as if the pre-war clamor has never dissipated.

Cars and vehicles come and go on the streets, and pedestrians are dressed in bright and beautiful clothes. Shops are lined up densely, and their windows are filled with all kinds of dazzling goods.

This was a world apart from the refugee camp he had just left; it was like two completely different worlds.

On one side is a living hell, where refugees struggle desperately under the torment of hunger and disease;

On the other side, however, there was a dazzling display of lights and revelry, with the wealthy indulging in a life of luxury.

Such a huge disparity filled David with intense resentment.

But by this time, he was already exhausted, both physically and mentally, and didn't even have the strength to argue with the soldiers.

His eyes were numb and empty, and he turned around mechanically. In that instant, he subconsciously glanced back, and in that glance, he was filled with resentment and helplessness.

After that, David continued to wander aimlessly, not knowing how long he had walked, until he unknowingly arrived at the Wailing Wall.

The area around the Wailing Wall was crowded with pilgrims, all dressed in traditional clothing, their expressions solemn and devout.

David was pushed along by the surging crowd and moved involuntarily toward the Wailing Wall.

The sound of chanting rose and fell all around him, one after another, like an invisible force echoing incessantly in his ears.

David involuntarily lowered his head, closed his eyes, clasped his hands together, and instinctively began to pray.

He prayed that the gods would hear his voice, see the suffering of the refugees, and that the world could return to peace and tranquility.

His lips trembled slightly as he murmured to himself, tears silently sliding down his face from between his tightly closed eyes.

"It's all a lie! If there really is a God, how could we have lost the battle?!"

These voices, filled with grief and doubt, exploded like a powerful bomb in the otherwise quiet and solemn crowd in front of the Wailing Wall.

It's important to know that the Western Wall is one of the holiest places for Jews. Countless Jews entrust their faith and hope to this place, and it carries the solace and spiritual sustenance of so many people.

To utter such blasphemous words in such a sacred place is undoubtedly a naked desecration of the gods and an open provocation to all the believers present.

In an instant, the solemn, pious, and sacred atmosphere vanished without a trace.

The eyes of everyone around turned like sharp arrows to the person who had spoken, their eyes filled with anger, shock, and deep contempt.

That gaze seemed to burn with raging fury. If a gaze could truly transform into a blade and take a life, that person would probably have been torn to pieces and died countless times already.

"Why are you still so stubborn?" The man not only did not restrain himself at all, but became even more agitated and began a long and impassioned speech.

"There are no gods in this world. Even if there were, a god who watches us suffer like this is not worth our worship! Otherwise, how do we explain this war we are suffering? Look at our homes, now devastated and shattered; our loved ones, displaced and many have perished. Is this divine protection?"

His voice echoed before the Western Wall, each word and phrase like a sharp dagger, piercing the hearts of every believer present and causing waves of pain to ripple through their souls.

David stood in the crowd, his thoughts still immersed in devout prayer, when this sudden turn of events abruptly interrupted him.

At first, a strong anger welled up in his heart. After all, the Wailing Wall was a sacred place that he once deeply revered and regarded as a spiritual refuge, and he could not tolerate others slandering it like this.

But as the speaker's words went deeper and deeper, David's heart began to ripple like the surface of a calm lake, gradually becoming shaky.

These are the thoughts he has kept hidden in his heart all this time, but has never had the courage to say them.

At that moment, looking at the speaker's passionate and fearless demeanor, David felt as if he were radiating a dazzling light, like a bright light suddenly appearing in the darkness, illuminating his long-lost and confused heart.

I must follow him and work together to build a home that truly belongs to us.

This idea, like a seed, quietly took root and began to sprout in David's heart.

His eyes shone with a determined light, no longer filled with numbness and despair, but with a renewed hope and courage for the future.

However, most people around them were blinded by anger.

"He is a heretic!"

"He must be executed!"

"The crime of slandering deities should be punishable by death!!"

Angry shouts rose and fell, like waves crashing one after another.

The crowd began to stir and the situation gradually spiraled out of control. Some radical believers even rushed towards the speaker as if they had gone mad.

A man with a flushed face and agitated emotions couldn't contain himself any longer. He bent down, picked up a stone from the ground, raised his arm high, and threw it forcefully at the speaker.

The stone whistled through the air, tracing a sharp arc, and carrying a heavy dose of malice as it viciously slammed into the speaker.

This smash was like igniting a barrel of gunpowder, instantly setting the entire arena ablaze.

More and more people seemed to be controlled by some kind of crazy emotion, and they followed the man's actions, picking up stones without hesitation and throwing them at the speaker.

In an instant, countless stones flew towards the speaker like a dense raindrop.

The speaker was unable to dodge and was struck hard by the stone. His head was instantly lacerated and bleeding profusely, with bright red blood gushing down his cheeks. His face was filled with pain.

However, even after suffering such a severe blow, he stubbornly straightened his spine, showing no intention of backing down.

"Fellow countrymen..."

He endured the excruciating pain, opened his blood-stained mouth, and tried to continue shouting, hoping that these frenzied people would stop their violence and calm down to listen to the voice deep within his heart.

However, his voice was so weak that it was mercilessly drowned out by the angry shouts of the crowd as soon as he uttered it.

"Shut him up!!"

The angry crowd had lost their minds and gave the speaker no chance to speak.

The stones continued to rain down on him, and his body began to sway under the relentless onslaught, his steps faltering. But with unwavering willpower, he gritted his teeth and stood firm, his eyes revealing an unyielding determination and indomitable spirit.

As the frenzied attack continued, the speaker gradually lost his strength, and finally, he was knocked to the ground by the rain of stones.

Even so, the crazed people showed no sign of stopping, continuing to hurl stones at him, which slowly piled up around his body.

The stones gradually formed a small mound.

From a distance, the mound looked like a hastily built tomb, burying the speaker's voice, his ideals, and his aspirations for the future beneath it, as if trying to erase him from this world completely.
