Chapter 30 Two Commissions

After Rosanne went down to the ground to report, she quickly alerted Captain Dunn Smith.

He asked Leonard, who was temporarily lounging in the recreation room, to watch over the "Charnes Gate" for a while, and then went to the living room to ask the two about the situation.

The timid and reserved boy, however, mustered his courage under these circumstances and interrupted the tall, thin man next to him who was about to speak, saying, "My father has disappeared. He hasn't come home since yesterday afternoon."

Dunn's grey eyes sized him up. He rubbed his temples and shook his head almost imperceptibly. "Sir, why would you want to come to the security personnel? The police in Tingen are very professional."

The boy involuntarily lowered his head, looked at the coffee table, clenched his fists, and said nervously:

"My father said that if something like this happened to him, reporting it to the police wouldn't help; he would have to come here for help. He mentioned you, Mr. Smith."

If something like this happens, calling the police won't help. Does the child's father know he's involved in some kind of supernatural trouble? In other words, a survivor of an extraordinary case?

Philip quickly grasped the general idea, and the others probably had similar thoughts, but obviously this couldn't be discussed in detail in front of outsiders. Dunn's deep gray eyes narrowed slightly, he tapped his head with his finger, and then nodded:

"I understand. Where is this gentleman?"

The tall, thin man was taken aback, clearly not expecting the topic to shift directly to him. He turned his head to look at the boy, who had seemed to understand after a brief moment of confusion, and without saying much, he spoke:

"My name is Carrie, and I am the butler of Mr. Vikroll, the tobacco merchant. His only son, Elliott Jr., was kidnapped this morning, just two hours ago. We have reported it to the police, and it has been taken very seriously."

"But Mr. Vikrol is still not at ease and hopes to use your security personnel's channels and your understanding of Tingen to investigate from another direction to ensure that little Elliott is rescued safely."

"If you can find the kidnappers' hiding place, Mr. Vickroll is willing to pay £100 as a reward, and if you are confident that you can rescue young Master Elliott, he is willing to double that amount."

£200, that's a big order!

Philip, who had only a little over eight hundred pounds in total, including his bank account, was somewhat tempted by the offer, but he also knew that this matter was probably not of much concern to him.

However, the next moment, Dunn's voice brought Philip back to his senses, who was still thinking about the work ahead: "Lawrence, are you confident about this?"

"I?"

Philip pointed blankly at himself.

If the kidnappers weren't involved with extraordinary individuals or subject to multiple gun bans, he would indeed be quite confident in handling this commission single-handedly using his new divination techniques and the skills he gained from being a "prisoner." But wouldn't that be too much trust in him?

"Hmm." Dunn nodded, not answering Philip's question, but simply looking at him silently, waiting for an answer. "Is that alright?"

"Okay, I'll go get the paperwork."

Philip nodded without saying anything more, turned and went into his office, took out four ready-made contracts that had been printed a few days earlier, and returned to the reception room where he and the butler signed their names on two of them.

Then, at Rosanne's prompting, he picked up the contract again and had it stamped with the "Blackthorn Security Company" seal by Mrs. Oriana, which made the contract valid.

The butler immediately took one of the contracts, tipped his hat and bowed to Philip, saying, "Sir, we await your good news."

After saying that, he left.

Philip, holding the remaining contract, looked at Dunn sitting on the sofa and said somewhat awkwardly, "Captain... uh, I mean, am I really going to do this all by myself?"

Unexpectedly, upon hearing this, Dunn's gaze held a hint of doubt. "Lawrence, I don't think you're such a coward. The missions you've performed before prove that."

As he spoke, he paused for two seconds, as if he had thought of a key point, before smiling frankly and saying, "Don't worry, after this period of observation, you have already proven yourself. Now, you are an indispensable member of our group."

"I'll give you two documents. This commission might be dangerous. Go ask Old Neil for guns and bullets. I didn't even know you hadn't mentioned this before."

"By the way, the other document is your permit to enter and leave Tingen. If the kidnappers are outside Tingen, you don't need to come back to report. Just handle it yourself and I'll take care of the risks."

Philip listened in silence.

Her sapphire blue eyes softened.

He bowed slightly, seemingly to himself, but also to everyone else in the arena, and slowly said, "Captain, thank you. I will do my best."

Ring ring—

The soft ringing of the bell slightly disrupted the somewhat strange atmosphere in the reception hall. Rosanne looked around somewhat embarrassedly, then went into the inner room with Philip, who was holding the white note.

Not long after.

After Philip and the butler quickly left through the door, Dunn's expression turned serious again in the reception room. He asked the boy in front of him, "What is your name, and what is your father's name?"

"Eric, Eric Brondy." The boy took a deep breath and continued, "My father's name is Joel Brondy."

"Joel Bruni, Joel Bruni"

Dunn closed his eyes, pinched the bridge of his nose, and repeated it several times in a low voice before finally finding the answer in his memory. "Okay, Eric, now tell me everything you know about your father's disappearance."

Not a single mistake, not a single poem, not a single post, not a single piece of content, not a single look!

Eric clasped his hands together and nodded.

"I don't know much. I only know that he is a fan of the occult, but my father was very opposed to these things many years ago. However, as time went by, he seemed to have gradually become fascinated by them."

"Yesterday afternoon, my father went to the dock area as usual. He always does this; he always brings back strange things."

"But this time I waited a long time, and he still didn't come home." Eric didn't continue.

Inside the reception area, Klein turned his gaze to Dunn and asked, "Captain, you seem to know Eric's father before?"

Dunn nodded slightly, clasped his hands under his chin, and slowly said, "He, like you, is a survivor of a previous case, but he chose to return to a normal life, and our subsequent examinations showed no problems."

Seven years have passed.

Klein sensed the melancholy and sadness in those words, so he politely refrained from asking further questions.

"Klein, I'll go with you myself."

However, as soon as Dunn finished speaking, Rosanne leaned close to his ear and whispered something very carefully. The latter's expression froze slightly, and after a couple of seconds of silence, he finally spoke:

"Eric, I'm sorry, I have some things to take care of later. Our security personnel are all busy right now, so you may have to wait a while."

"No, it's okay."
