Chapter 45 Talismans

But that's not enough, far from enough.

Compared to the almost transformative abilities of Sequence 7 "Werewolf," Philip, now a Sequence 8, is still pitifully weak. Facing the covetousness of the Rose School, and without the help of the Night Watchers, his fate is almost certain to perish.

Philip was torn. He dared not gamble on the consequences of his secret being exposed to the Night Watch, nor did he dare to leave and face the unknown risks without any room for maneuver. Yet, his conscience was also condemning him.

In fact, his decision to return to the security company instead of preparing to flee was subconsciously a way for him to stop worrying and fearing, and to calmly accept the outcome of being sent to the sanctuary by the night watchmen.

Unfortunately, reality often likes to play tricks.

Normally, this matter might have been kept to himself, but at this moment, whether it was due to the lingering effects of the potion or something else, Philip suddenly felt a strange impulse, and various negative emotions began to arise.

boom--!

As the loud sound of the silver water cup being crushed underfoot reached his ears, he opened his eyes wide, regained his composure, and breathed a sigh of relief.

Stop thinking about it. Quickly digest the potion, advance to Sequence 7, and escape Tingen. If you encounter a critical situation, try not to leave others.

That's it.

Philip looked at his hands again and found that the abnormal light red on his skin had faded. He then quickly made a lunch with the leftover ingredients from yesterday before tidying up his somewhat disheveled clothes, picking up his silver-inlaid cane, and going outside.

He had no clue how to digest the "madman" potion. If he tried to figure it out on a superficial basis, he could not do anything related to those two words, otherwise he would be considered out of control or crazy.

It's just that prisoners, madmen, and werewolves are all ghosts. This acting method is deliberately targeting people who follow the "prisoner" path. It's too much to ask him to find the key to digestion from the name of the potion.

But there was no other way out at this point. Philip twitched his lips and stopped complaining. He waited at a roadside bus stop for a tram, paid 4 pence for the fare, and rode directly to the Dragon Bar in the dock area.

Although I don't have high hopes for the occult market in a small city like Tingen, there's still a chance if it's just for supplementary materials, so I can't just give up.

Because if you make such a request to the "Hanged Man" during a Tarot reading, regardless of whether the other party accepts it or not, your information is very likely to be deduced by the other party.

After all, if an extraordinary person cannot even purchase such simple materials on their own and has to entrust them to others through secret gatherings, then their current predicament is self-evident.

They were either being hunted down or in dire straits.

Combined with the information about the Rose School that Philip had previously offered, a little association is all it takes to arrive at the most likely answer: members of the Restraint faction in Awawa County.

As for asking Captain Dunn to exchange his items, that would be even more risky. Who knows what his every move might make this forgetful yet reliable man think? He's already having a bit of a stress reaction about that.

I'm afraid that the other person will look at me with their deep eyes and say in a calm tone, "That's true, after all, it's reasonable to apply for these materials since we need to prepare potions."

Then the night watchmen pushed open the door, handcuffed themselves, and sent them to jail to sober up.

As Philip's thoughts wandered, contemplating future ideas and plans, the carriage unknowingly arrived at its destination, stopping not far from the Dragon's Tavern.

He got out of the car and walked confidently to the bar entrance. Ignoring the burly man standing guard beside him, who was frowning and deep in thought, he pushed open the wooden door and stepped into the bustling bar.

There was no intense fighting going on in the central boxing ring at the moment, presumably because it wasn't time for the match yet. So the dozens of patrons around the ring simply sat together, chatting heartily about various topics, occasionally clinking glasses and taking a big gulp of alcohol.

Philip walked confidently to the billiard room, but stopped at the door, looking at the familiar figure inside. He called out softly, somewhat uncertainly, "Mr. Neil?"

"Lawrence?" The aged figure froze for a moment, then turned around, his furrowed brows relaxing as he laughed heartily, "Sure enough, I didn't mishear, it's you. Hmm, good afternoon?"

"Hmm, good afternoon."

Philip nodded in response.

His gaze lingered on the other person's expression, which was gradually returning to normal, and a sense of doubt arose in his heart. However, he pretended not to notice and asked, "What brings you here?"

"Oh, I've come to buy some extraordinary materials for making talismans. You know, we used way too much yesterday, and now we're completely out of supplies," Old Neil explained.

Then he changed the subject, "And you?"

Having already formulated his plan in a short time, Philip didn't hesitate. He rubbed the back of his head and said with a smile:

"Actually, I'm also here to buy related materials. After all, without 'that' yesterday, I would probably just be a decoration. So I also want to try making some talismans to protect myself."

Not a single mistake, not a single poem, not a single post, not a single piece of content, not a single look!

"Hmm, not a bad idea." Old Neil nodded approvingly, pulled Philip through the secret door ahead, and then, as if remembering something, turned his head and said:

"Have you ever tried making talismans? If you don't have the skills, it's very difficult to succeed, and you'll waste a lot of materials."

He wasn't surprised that Philip brought up the topic of making talismans. He didn't know if Philip had learned something from Dunn or Leonard, or if he had guessed or imagined a reasonable explanation.

"Hmm." Philip nodded. "I've successfully made spiritual talismans before, but the success rate wasn't high, and I'm not sure if the relevant materials are here."

"Then you can come with me to buy more of the materials I mentioned. When we get back, I can teach you how to make some of the talismans that the Night Watchers are skilled at. They can be very useful in critical moments."

Faced with Old Neil's kind invitation, Philip hesitated for a few moments, then unconsciously curved the corners of his mouth into a smile and replied sincerely, "Yes, thank you."

In any case, it's good to learn some safe and useful knowledge in this dangerous and mysterious world. Moreover, with Old Neil's cover, even if the Night Watchers find out he came here today, they won't pay any attention to him.

If he comes across the necessary "werewolf" potion ingredients, he can simply use the excuse of needing to make a certain talisman he possesses to buy them. After all, no matter what, the other party can't force him to make it in front of them.

At worst, we can be shameless and fool the old man; after all, there are always more solutions than problems.
