Chapter 13: Does it include lunch?

"In recognition of the outstanding performance of Class 1, Grade 1 in this year's promotion competition, all students in the class will be awarded a Class A meal every day for the rest of the semester."

The group of people who had initially had doubts were undoubtedly very excited after hearing this good news.

It's not just Lin Ci who can't afford the Class A meal; most families can't afford it either. Making it free for the whole class this semester is a huge investment from the college.

This instantly snapped Lin Ci out of her daze.

But his joy lasted only a few seconds before he felt he had lost out.

I remember Xie Xie promised to treat him to a week's worth of meals, but now it seems completely unnecessary. I should have ordered something else; I really lost out.

Long Hengxu didn't say much useful stuff; what followed was nothing but some meaningless drivel, the kind that gets mentioned at every major meeting.

The meeting ended quickly. Long Hengxu gave Wu Changkong and Ye Yingluo a look, then announced, "Dismissed. Class teachers, please take your children back."

Wu Changkong glanced at the new class and said coldly, "Dismissed. Lin Ci, Gu Yue, Tang Wulin, and Xie Xie, stay behind."

Soon, all the first-grade classes left the playground and quickly returned to their classrooms. The meeting had already taken up all their free time, and now it was time for class; everyone was eager to get back to their lessons.

Those who remained were the four of them, along with Wu Changkong and Zhang Yangzi from Ye Yingluo's class.

Even Ye Yingluo only glanced at them with a gloomy expression before leaving.

At this moment, Long Hengxu nodded and stepped back to a more secluded position.

Yu Zhen, the dean of Donghai Academy, stepped forward, looked at the crowd, and said loudly, "Students, I'm keeping you here today for no other reason than to announce that the academy is going to establish a first-year Class Zero, and you are the selected members."

Class Zero?!

Apart from Lin Ci, everyone else exchanged surprised glances, each seeing confusion in the other's eyes.

Yu Zhen naturally noticed their confusion and said in a deep voice, "Students, I know you are all curious about why we established Class Zero for the first year. It's simple. The individual abilities of you have far surpassed your current level. If you continue to be trained at the same level, your talents will be buried. Therefore, the academy has decided to allocate special educational resources to you for special training."

Without a doubt, Lin Ci and the others were all outstanding members in the promotion competition. Although Tang Wulin did not participate in the final battle, he still made it into Class Zero based on his excellent performance in previous competitions and Wu Changkong's recommendation.

The new teacher, Wu Changkong, was definitely involved in finalizing this list.

Yu Zhen continued seriously, "I've already stated the purpose of establishing Class Zero: to prevent you from being held back. However, you little brats, put away your arrogance. This world is never short of geniuses. Behave yourselves properly, or don't blame the academy for being impolite. I'm warning you, if something like what happened the day before yesterday happens again, you'll be punished. Don't think you're all exceptionally talented now. Let me tell you, that's called being narrow-minded. In the Federation, there are plenty of people far more outstanding than you."

A reprimand was necessary, considering several were injured in the decisive battle the day before yesterday. And this was only a battle between the first and second rings, yet they caused such a mess. Who knows what they might do when their soul power improves further?

Seeing that everyone was listening, Yu Zhen continued, "The academy has established Class Zero, and will be increasing its investment in you from now on. Resources will be allocated in all aspects, so the academy wants to ensure that you can continue to study here and not deviate from the right path due to some uncertain reasons. Okay, sign this."

As soon as he finished speaking, Long Hengxu stepped forward and took out seven copies of the agreement, placing them in the hands of the seven people respectively.

The agreement is very simple. It means that I voluntarily sign an agreement with Donghai Academy and will not transfer schools before completing my studies in the junior and senior high school sections of the academy.

It's like a contract that means you can only study at Donghai Academy during this period. Since you're enjoying centrally allocated resources, it's impossible for you to leave easily, otherwise it would be a breach of contract.

Xie Xie asked timidly, "Dean, shouldn't we talk to our family about signing this?"

Yu Zhen rolled his eyes. "Sure! Go back and communicate, but don't get involved with Class Zero. I'm busy; I don't have time to wait for you to do these things."

Xie Xie frowned, but then he heard the sound of pens being put down in unison beside him.

He was taken aback and turned to look. He saw that Lin Ci, Tang Wulin, and Gu Yue had already signed their names when he posted the article.

Were the three of you in cahoots?

If they had known nothing beforehand, he would have truly believed they had conspired together.

After hesitating for two seconds, Xie Xie gritted his teeth and quickly signed his name on the agreement.

Lin Ci signed quickly, not just for the mission objectives, but because he knew the resource allocation meant much more than that. He also knew he'd be getting free Class A meals from the academy for more than a year. That was the most tempting thing for him; everything else was secondary.

On the other side, Wang Jinxi and Zhang Yangzi also signed. The two of them are practically one entity, after all, they both possess the Martial Soul Fusion Technique, so it's definitely more promising for them to cultivate together.

Of the three, only Wei Xiaofeng hesitated. "Dean, it's not good to not discuss this with my family. I think we should talk about it, since my family might send me to a better academy when I'm in the advanced department."

Yu Zhen nodded almost without hesitation. "Everyone has their own ambitions. You can go back to Class Two. The number of students in Class Zero of the first year will be increased to six."

As he spoke, he retrieved the agreement from Wei Xiaofeng's hand and waved to him.

You told the dean of Donghai Academy that you wanted to go to a better academy. He certainly knew the level of Donghai Academy, but how could the dean possibly continue to beg you to stay after you said that to him?

After all, even Wei Xiaofeng's talent didn't reach that level. In fact, among Class Zero, the only ones Yu Zhen valued most were Zhang Yangzi and Wang Jinxi, who had mastered the Martial Soul Fusion Technique, as well as Gu Yue and Lin Ci.

He now sees others as even worse.

A complex look appeared in Wei Xiaofeng's eyes, but in the end he did not take back the agreement. He bowed to the dean and then turned and headed towards the teaching building.

"Alright, now that you've signed this agreement, it means that from this moment on, you will become the core elite of the academy. We respect Wei Xiaofeng's choice, but I believe he will regret it in the future. Although our Donghai Academy isn't ranked high on the continent, it is, after all, the only intermediate-level Soul Master academy in a major city. When the academy's resources are fully tilted towards you, even the legendary Shrek Academy might not be much stronger than us."

Yu Zhen had long since lost his serious demeanor and instead revealed a warm smile.

They can change their expressions faster than turning the pages of a book.

Not a single mistake, not a single poem, not a single post, not a single piece of content, not a single look!

Having signed this agreement, they're practically family now. Yu Zhen has high hopes for the future of these geniuses.

However, few people believed his claim that his resource allocation was even better than Shrek Academy's, especially Wu Changkong, whose lips twitched.

Lin Ci didn't actually think Yu Zhen was bragging; perhaps even the dean himself didn't know that what he said was true.

Shrek Academy has always relied on contribution points as a basic requirement; good resources still require personal effort to obtain. Therefore, it's a system of giving before receiving. This approach isn't bad, but it doesn't feel like a typical academy.

It's more like a sect fighting over resources.

Therefore, compared to Yu Zhenji using the resources of Donghai Academy and even Donghai City to support their small team, in some aspects they are definitely superior to Shrek Academy.

"Better to be the tail of a phoenix than the head of a chicken." This saying isn't entirely true. Being the tail of a phoenix has its advantages, and being the head of a chicken has its merits. Nothing is absolute; everything is relative.

Yu Zhen smiled and asked, "Do you have any other questions? Or do you think there's anything wrong with the academy? Feel free to point it out. We'll do everything we can to help you."

Since Yu Zhen has already said so, what else do the others have to say?

The others didn't reply. Yu Zhen nodded in satisfaction and was about to say something encouraging when a certain young man, who had been thinking for a long time, raised his hand.

Yu Zhen frowned slightly and asked, "Lin Ci, do you have any more questions about the academy?"

He subconsciously thought that Lin Ci wanted to go back on the agreement she had just signed.

Ke Linci asked very seriously, "Is lunch included?"

Yu Zhen: "Huh???"

The boy's single-minded focus on food was simply a consequence of the endless hunger and darkness he endured during his imprisonment years ago.

Lin Ci: I don't like the feeling of being hungry.

Spoilers ahead.
