Chapter 47 Xiao Nan

My name is Xiao Nan, and I am an orphan.

War broke out, and I began to wander until a boy named Yahiko shared some food with me. Yahiko was very opinionated and courageous. He led me to survive in this chaotic world by stealing supplies.

I know stealing is wrong, but we just want to survive.

Later, I found a boy named Nagato outside, with a dog named "Little One" by his side. I gave him a piece of bread, but he didn't eat it right away. Instead, he shared half with "Little One." I thought he was a good person, so I took him back to the base that Yahiko and I had established together.

After Nagato joined us, our thefts became much smoother, since we could spare one person to distract the vendors. Once we succeeded, we would usually split up and escape.

Once, I met a boy named Uzumaki Tokio rummaging through a pile of trash, which was leftover scraps from a fishmonger. Feeling sorry for him, I shared one of the breads I had stolen with him, and he said "thank you" to me.

The next time I met him was because I had been caught by the fishmonger. He suddenly rushed out from the nearby garbage heap and hit the fishmonger's toe hard with a wooden stick, which allowed me to escape.

Toki is a loyal person, so I decided to take him back. Yahiko and Nagato both agreed to let him stay, and even the little one happily barked a few times.

I don't remember what my home looked like before the war started, but I'm certain that the little cave with the campfire was my new home, and they were my family. We huddled together for warmth in this chaotic world; our only goal was to survive.

But a year later, we lost a family member.

We stumbled into the battlefield of the Legendary Sannin and Hanzo of the Salamander. "Little One" was killed by a flying explosive tag. Nagato was crying, Yahiko was clenching his fists, and Toki was staring blankly at the battlefield. What was I thinking at that moment?

I can't remember exactly, we only know that life is so fragile, so...we crave strength.

Because Yahiko disliked Hanzo the Salamander, we returned the excess supplies to the people at the market and, carrying dry rations and water, embarked on a journey to find the Legendary Sannin of Konoha. After finding them, we expressed our desire to learn ninjutsu.

Orochimaru wanted to kill us, believing it would be a release for us. Fortunately, Jiraiya stopped him and offered to stay and take care of us. Then, he asked for our names. When Toki gave her surname, Tsunade, who had already left, returned, intending to take Toki away.

We refused, and Shi Xu didn't want to leave either.

Until Jiraiya-sensei said that Tsunade was Toki's clansman... That's great, Toki still has a family.

After the war, Toki was already a Chunin in Konoha. He would always take on missions near the Land of Rain and then come to see us. He would always prepare lots and lots of gifts and teach us some medical ninjutsu... Even though we were apart most of the time, we were still family.

Until war broke out again, this time... I lost two family members. Yahiko was killed by Hanzo of the Salamander, and Tokio wanted to come back to help us, but was caught and killed by Tsunade.

I wanted to retrieve Toki's body, but the masked man stopped me. I asked Nagato for his opinion, but he was persuaded by the masked man and decided to prioritize the greater good.

Many years later, as the plan reached its final stage, we decided to destroy Konoha with hatred in our hearts. But as I searched for Tsunade's whereabouts, I opened and closed my eyes and was transported back to that bridge from many years ago.

Just like last time, Tsunade took Toki away again. But this time, I won't be foolish enough to stand by and watch Toki travel back and forth between the two countries. I'm going to Konoha with Jiraiya-sensei to bring Toki back!

He's mine!

……

On a sunny afternoon, under a boundless clear sky.

"Is this Konoha?" Konan asked, displaying just the right amount of curiosity.

"Yes, this is Master's house." Jiraiya laughed heartily a few times, leading Konan across the gate. "It's been three years. I wonder if Tsunade and Orochimaru have missed me."

"Then...where is Shi Xu?" Xiao Nan asked directly. She didn't want to stay in this place any longer and just wanted to find Shi Xu as soon as possible.

Jiraiya leaned down slightly and teased her in the ear, "Oh~ Minami's all grown up, hasn't she? Can't wait to see her sweetheart?"

Konan was already used to her teacher's unreliable behavior: "Jiraiya-sensei, no wonder you can't find a girlfriend."

"This... cough cough! This immortal is dashing and romantic, and I'm never short of women... it's just that I haven't accomplished anything great yet, so I can't indulge in romantic entanglements."

When Jiraiya is being stubborn, the best approach is to remain silent.

Konan shook off Jiraiya and walked straight ahead, but after a while she stopped by the roadside and looked at herself in the mirror, dressed in the attire of the Land of Rain. A long black robe covered her completely, from her face to her calves, and there was no beauty to speak of.

"When a girl wants to dress up, it must be because she's rushing to see her sweetheart. I knew I was right... Hehehe, Uzumaki Tokio, consider this a way of repaying you for the advice you gave me in the letter."

A hint of amusement flashed across Jiraiya's face, then he coughed twice and stepped forward with a serious expression.

"Konan, let's go inside and take a look. Wearing clothes from the Land of Rain isn't comfortable in the Land of Fire's weather."

A hint of hesitation flashed across Konan's face: "Jiraiya-sensei, I don't have any money."

Not a single mistake, not a single poem, not a single post, not a single piece of content, not a single look!

"Oh dear... Now that you've come all the way to Konoha, how could I possibly let you spend money on me?"

"No, thank you."

Konan refused again, but Jiraiya, with his vast theoretical knowledge, simply lowered his voice slightly: "When you meet Toki, he'll buy you a gift too. Do you want to spend his money? Or rather... can you refuse his kindness?"

"A gift doesn't necessarily have to be clothes."

"But there will definitely be clothes among the gifts," Jiraiya replied confidently.

A few seconds later, Xiao Nan went into the clothing store, and when she came out, she had changed into a proper white dress.

The slope in front of the Senju mansion was covered with red and yellow leaves, like a blanket welcoming Minami. The warm sunlight enveloped her, even her individual blue hairs reflected a soft glow.

Shi Xu opened the door, and the figure there looked so petite that it gave off a sense of fragility. Her delicate face was rosy in the sunlight, with a sweet smile, as if it were another color between dreams and reality.

He raised his hand in surprise, and smiled slightly: "Long time no see."

The moment Xiao Nan saw Shi Xu, the obsession that had been suppressed in her heart for many years was finally released. She smiled with her eyes crinkling and her eyes were a little moist.

"Long time no see, Shixu."
