Reborn in the 1980s: Nine Stunning Beauties Get Pregnant Before Marriage
Chapter 208 High-end Hotel
"With this plow, a tractor can do several days' worth of work in one day. The time saved can be used for transportation, and the money can be earned back quickly. This is a long-term calculation."
Qin Liping blushed when Ma Weimin called her "sister-in-law" and was about to explain.
Chen Yongqiang's voice came through: "Give me a receipt, Master Ma, I'll buy this plow."
Time is money, and Chen Yongqiang didn't want to waste too much time on farming.
Upon hearing that the deal was done, Ma Weimin's face lit up with a smile: "Brother Chen, you have an eye for talent! You're destined for great things! Your wife is sure to enjoy a life of luxury with you!"
Ma Weimin led Chen Yongqiang to the counter to get an invoice.
Qin Liping followed behind, tugging anxiously at Chen Yongqiang's sleeve, and whispered, "Brother Yongqiang, why...aren't you going to explain this to them?"
"What's there to explain?" Chen Yongqiang felt there was no need to explain so clearly.
"It's that...he always calls me sister-in-law..." Qin Liping blushed again.
"We left after we finished shopping," Chen Yongqiang said dismissively.
Ma Weimin processed the business quickly, and Chen Yongqiang paid the money readily.
The two men loaded the newly purchased plowshare onto the back of the tractor and left the agricultural machinery company.
"Brother Yongqiang, where are we going now?" Qin Liping asked as she got back on the tractor.
"Let's go eat first. Then we can take a look around the market." Chen Yongqiang thought that since he had come all the way to the county town, he might as well go to the market and maybe discover some new business opportunities.
Today I took on a delivery job for the supply and marketing cooperative. I can earn thirty yuan by making two trips.
This would be considered a very good income by others. But Chen Yongqiang, considering the large expenses of building the house, felt that the money was not coming in fast enough.
Upon hearing that they were going to eat at a restaurant in the county town, Qin Liping immediately perked up: "What good food is there in the county town? I heard they have mutton soup, sweet and sour pork..."
She rattled off several dishes, but Chen Yongqiang didn't really know what good food there was: "What do you want to eat? I'll take you to try everything except state-run restaurants."
"What's wrong with state-run restaurants?" Qin Liping asked, puzzled.
"The waiters there are arrogant and think they're above everyone else. If we go now, we might have to wait an hour or two and still not get our food. We're not going to put up with that, and we're not going to waste our time."
Only those government employees who value their status and image, or small business owners who want to show off, would insist on going to state-run restaurants.
Chen Yongqiang was driving his tractor down the street when he saw a restaurant with four red cloth banners hanging at the entrance.
In Northeast China during the 1980s, the number of signs hanging outside restaurants was quite significant:
A front: usually a snack bar, mainly selling simple foods such as noodles, steamed buns, and wontons.
Two fronts: It's a legitimate stir-fry restaurant that serves home-style stir-fries and staple foods like rice and steamed buns.
Three reasons: It is a mid-range restaurant with better chefs, capable of hosting general banquets, and offering a relatively complete menu.
Four signs: This is the mark of the highest level. It means that the restaurant can host large banquets and has impressive main dishes and signature dishes.
The chefs are highly skilled, and the service is relatively more professional. Daring to display four signs is a symbol of strength and a signature feature, but naturally, the prices are also higher.
The restaurant Chen Yongqiang saw, with its four red banners, was a well-known establishment in the county.
"This is the place." Chen Yongqiang parked the tractor by the roadside.
He brought Qin Liping along not only to broaden her horizons but also to give her a good meal.
I also had another thought in mind: I wanted to see if there was any opportunity for cooperation with such a large hotel.
I tried to sell wild game to state-run restaurants, but I was turned down and couldn't get the connections, so I gave up on the idea.
These privately owned restaurants that dare to display four different names are probably more resourceful.
Qin Liping followed behind Chen Yongqiang and noticed that the restaurant's decor was unusual.
Feeling a little apprehensive, she tugged at Chen Yongqiang's sleeve: "Brother Yongqiang, how about... we just find a noodle shop? This place looks... not cheap."
Chen Yongqiang glanced at her: "It's rare for you to come to the county town, so I'll treat you to a good meal and show you how this big restaurant does business."
As soon as I entered the restaurant, a waitress in a white uniform greeted me: "Comrade, how many of you are there?"
Chen Yongqiang responded: "The two of you."
"This way, please." The waitress led them to a small square table. "What would you two like to eat? We have stir-fries, stews, and cold dishes." She handed them a handwritten menu.
Chen Yongqiang took the menu, but before looking at it, he asked, "What are some of your specialty dishes?"
He naturally wanted to order some specialty dishes.
"What kind of specialty dishes would you like to try?" the waiter asked with a smile.
"It's on the mountain," Chen Yongqiang said rather subtly.
"I understand," the waiter said knowingly.
He quietly named a few dishes: "Braised wild rabbit, pheasant stew with mushrooms, deep-fried forest frog... these are all common dishes. There are also some seasonal wild vegetables."
After listening, Chen Yongqiang felt there weren't enough varieties: "Is that all?"
The waiter explained, "Sir, the mountain hasn't opened yet, so many wild animals are hiding and difficult to catch. Therefore, the only options available are these more common ones."
Chen Yongqiang didn't make things difficult for her and ordered all the wild game dishes the waiter had mentioned.
The waiter noted down the names of the dishes, said "Please wait a moment," and went to the kitchen.
After she walked away, Qin Liping asked softly, "Brother Yongqiang, haven't we eaten these dishes at home before?"
"I want to see how the food prepared by the chefs at this fancy restaurant differs from what we make at home," Chen Yongqiang explained simply.
A short while later, the waiter returned, looking apologetic. "Sir, I'm so sorry, the kitchen said... they're out of pheasant today. Could you perhaps offer another dish?"
"That's all?" Chen Yongqiang hesitated for a moment. "I happen to have a pheasant on my tractor. Could you process it for me? I'll pay for the processing fee."
He also keeps quite a few pheasants in his space.
Unable to make the decision, the waiter turned around and called over the restaurant manager.
The manager, a man in his forties, understood the situation, glanced at Chen Yongqiang, and readily nodded: "Sure! Our kitchen can help with the processing."
"Okay." Chen Yongqiang agreed and turned to leave the restaurant.
He walked to the tractor, and under the cover of the vehicle, with no one around to notice, he took out a live pheasant from his spatial storage and carried it back to the restaurant.
The manager took the pheasant from Chen Yongqiang and was surprised by its quality.
The manager immediately told the waiter, "Take it to the kitchen and let Chef Liu cook it using our best methods!"
