"Huff...huff...um..."

Heavy breathing came from Lu Weidong's chest.

Fine beads of sweat clung to his strong, tanned muscles.

"198...199...200."

After Lu Weidong finished his morning exercise of two hundred push-ups, he stood up and looked up to see Ye Wenxi leaning against the headboard, looking at her notebook with a slight smile on her lips.

Ye Wenxi was taking notes in a notebook about the design requirements she had previously discussed with Li Yuejin.

She discovered an interesting phenomenon.

Currently, the Light Industry Bureau is asking Ye Wenxi to design old products from established brands, not new ones. Although state-owned enterprises are slow to innovate, she has guessed what these old hands are thinking.

This is about maximizing the value of her design. A common characteristic of older products is that while user engagement is there, sales growth is slow.

New products naturally attract attention and sell out quickly; they are in high demand for a period of time after their launch.

If they also let her design new products, they'll have to give her a 2% cut, which would be a loss for them.

"What are you laughing at?" Lu Weidong asked, wiping his sweat with a towel.

"They're laughing at the Light Industry Bureau's little scheme," Ye Wenxi said with a smile.

She briefly shared her guess with Lu Weidong.

"Could it be that the new products haven't been scheduled yet?" Lu Weidong said casually.

"No, they're right to do it this way. If I were the factory manager, I would arrange it the same way to maximize profits."

Lu Weidong put down the towel, walked to the bedside, supported himself with both hands on either side of her, and leaned forward slowly.

"Have you ever done business before?" Lu Weidong asked in a low voice.

"Hmm?" Ye Wenxi looked up.

"No..." Ye Wenxi lowered her head and whispered, continuing to pretend to look at the notebook.

Lu Weidong took the notebook away.

"Really?" He moved closer to her face and body, looking down at her.

He gradually tightened his arms, encircling Ye Wenxi in a small space, his dark eyes staring at her like a deep pool.

As Lu Weidong's imposing aura pressed down on her, she simply turned her head away, acting as if she were a dead pig unafraid of boiling water.

But Lu Weidong pinched her chin and lifted it up, forcing her to look him in the eye.

"If you haven't done it, then you're a little devil, always so cunning." Lu Weidong said with a smile.

Ye Wenxi reached out and wrapped her arms around Lu Weidong's strong neck.

"Aren't you afraid now that you know I'm a fairy?"

"Aren't you afraid I'll...eat you?"

She tilted her head back, her eyes sparkling, their breaths mingling, their lips and eyes less than a centimeter apart.

"Then let's see who eats whom."

Lu Weidong lowered his head and kissed her lips, gently sucking on them, while Ye Wenxi gently extended her tongue in a tender response.

Their breathing gradually became heavier, and Lu Weidong pressed down on them.

boom--!

The door was suddenly pushed open.

The two of them jolted awake and rolled off the bed.

Lu Weidong lay on his back on the ground, while Ye Wenxi lay on top of him.

Ye Wenxi didn't dare to look up to see who opened the door. She just lay there on the floor between the bed and the window, holding her breath and remaining silent.

"Huh? Nobody's here..."

"Dad Chen, Uncle Lu and the others aren't here."

Zhang Xiangyang's childish voice rang out from the doorway, calling Chen Yuanchuan from another room over.

"Not here?" Chen Yuanchuan poked his head in.

After scanning around, I saw a bit of Lu Weidong's trouser leg peeking out from under the bed.

Chen Yuanchuan: "..."

"Hiss..." He scratched his head.

"Come on, Xiangyang, next time you must knock first!"

Ye Wenxi & Lu Weidong: "..."

Chen Yuanchuan silently closed the door, and a voice came from the doorway:

"I've found a restaurant; I'm going to treat Xiangyang to a nice meal. You two hurry up and go together."

Ye Wenxi nearly beat Lu Weidong, who was lying on the ground, to a pulp.

"I told you not to lock the door! I told you not to lock the door!"

The jeep sped into the city of Kunming.

The streets in the central area were more bustling than I had imagined.

Along the roadside are two- or three-story buildings with gray walls and faded red slogans pasted on the windows.

Bicycles jingled as they passed by, and occasionally a car would drive by, kicking up a cloud of dust.

The car stopped in front of a state-run restaurant. The storefront was small, with a faded red signboard and a sign on the glass window that read "Today's offerings: Crossing-the-Bridge Rice Noodles, Steamed Chicken in a Clay Pot".

Zhang Xiangyang got out of the car and ran inside, but after a few steps, he ran back and grabbed Zhang Yunxia's hand.

"Mom, come with me."

Zhang Yunxia was pulled into the restaurant.

Lu Weidong watched their figures disappear, then turned to Chen Yuanchuan and whispered:

"Sister-in-law, do you have any thoughts on this?"

Chen Yuanchuan knew what Lu Weidong was referring to.

"It's not confirmed yet, let's wait and see. After all, this is a big deal."

"But no matter what, the child will probably be taken back. He grew up in Northeast China, and he definitely won't be used to staying here."

Compared to Zhang Yunxia's emotional nature, Chen Yuanchuan is more rational and calm.

"I've already spoken with the civil affairs department about his father and grandmother. We'll take them back with us so they can return to their roots."

As they spoke, the three followed Zhang Yunxia into the restaurant.

Restaurants in the 1980s were not like those later.

The menu has a limited selection of dishes: rice noodles, rice vermicelli, and steamed chicken, all clearly labeled in red paint on the wall.

Ye Wenxi had eaten all of these before, so she had no expectations, but for Zhang Yunxia and her group, everything was new and exciting.

The waiter quickly brought over a large pot of clay pot rice noodles.

"It's just noodles!" Zhang Yunxia rolled her eyes at Chen Yuanchuan. "Old Chen, you said you'd treat us to something nice, and all you did was treat us to noodles?"

"And what about steamed chicken in a clay pot?!" Chen Yuanchuan said defiantly, gesturing with his chopsticks.

"Come on, Xiangyang, eat more," Chen Yuanchuan served Zhang Xiangyang a bowl first.

"Thank you, Dad Chen!" Zhang Xiangyang said cheerfully.

"Hmm, this time you're being polite!" Chen Yuanchuan patted his little head.

Lu Weidong and Ye Wenxi choked at the same time, instantly realizing something, and both of their faces turned red.

"So, you two are planning to leave on your own after you finish eating?"

Chen Yuanchuan turned to Lu Weidong and said.

"Yes, these two days plus the honeymoon make it five days in total. I'll take Wenxi out for some fun," Lu Weidong said happily.

He and Ye Wenxi made plans last night for their honeymoon trip, using Kunming as their base, to travel independently and explore Yunnan Province.

"Be careful when you're out and about. The security here is a bit worse than where we are. Plus, there's the chaos after the war, so the border isn't very peaceful."

"Wenxi, stay close and be careful," Chen Yuanchuan kindly advised.

"Don't worry, Commander Chen! With Lu Weidong around, who can bully me?" Ye Wenxi said with a grin, patting Lu Weidong's strong arm.

"Look how happy Lu Weidong is! Old Chen, quickly grab a rope and tie him up. Look, he's almost floating."

Zhang Yunxia smiled with a look of disgust.

"Mom, I have a rope here." Zhang Xiangyang said, and was about to pull off the waistband of his pants.

"Ha ha ha ha."

A burst of laughter drifted out the window.

After finishing the meal, we said goodbye to Mr. and Mrs. Zhang Yunxia.

Ye Wenxi and his companion carried their luggage and headed directly to their next destination.

"Let's go to Daguanlou today, and tomorrow we'll go to the Stone Forest!" Ye Wenxi said excitedly, linking arms with Lu Weidong.

"Okay, we'll follow Mr. Ye's arrangements." Lu Weidong smiled indulgently.

Ye Wenxi quickened her pace, pulling Lu Weidong toward the bus station.

"I asked the hotel owner and he said to go north to take a bus. We need to hurry, I'm afraid if we're too late, the guesthouse next door won't have any rooms left."

"Want to hurry? Okay."

"Ah—!" Ye Wenxi exclaimed in surprise.

Lu Weidong scooped Ye Wenxi up in his arms and sprinted towards the station.

"Don't move, let me hold you."

He wasn't wearing a military uniform. In this place where no one knew them, Ye Wenxi stopped struggling and let him flaunt their sweetness.

Lu Weidong held her in his arms and ran quickly toward the bus station.

Ye Wenxi's memory was instantly pulled back to the first day they met, the day he carried her to catch the train in the same way.

Looking back on the days since they met and got to know each other, a warm feeling spread through Ye Wenxi's heart.

She hugged his neck tightly, and together with Lu Weidong, they embarked on every happy future together.
