Turn left after entering the Qianjin Agricultural Machinery Factory and you'll find the security department.

Inside the room was a three-drawer table with peeling paint, the red lacquer peeling off in patches like fish scales, and a worn-out register was pressed tightly on top of it.

A flashlight and a rubber baton leaned against the edge of the table. The glass window wasn't large, and the sunlight streaming in was hazy. The air was filled with a pungent smell of smoke and earth.

Lin Deqiang slumped into an old wooden chair behind the table.

The cigarette between his fingers had burned to the end. He sighed, leaned forward, stubbed out the butt in the ashtray, and slumped back down.

"Section Chief, what's up?" Young clerk Li Xuejun peeked out from behind another desk. "Is it still about your brother-in-law's matter?"

"Sigh, my sister-in-law is great in every way, hardworking and capable, it's just that her brother is such a worry!"

Another officer, Hao Daguo, put down his pen, his tone full of regret.

Everyone gives a thumbs up when they talk about Deputy Section Chief Lin's new wife.

She is a master at housework, impeccable in her dealings with people, and manages the household affairs perfectly.

What was Deputy Section Chief Lin like before?

His beard was unkempt, and although he was in his early twenties, he always had dark circles under his eyes and looked haggard, like he was in his forties or fifties.

Needless to say, his five nephews and nieces were also involved.

The clothes are never clean, and no one, big or small, ever stays still. One day someone skips school and the teacher calls the parents; the next day someone breaks a window and gets the authorities knocking on the door...

But ever since he got married, Lin Deqiang seems like a completely different person, clean and tidy.

The five children became well-behaved, and when they occasionally came to the factory, they would greet people.

He looks completely different from his previous mischievous self.

The couple's only argument was because Zhang Wenshan was fired.

It can't really be called an argument.

Section Chief Lin was scolded all night and stayed in the security office for several days before moving back.

"That's right!" Li Xuejun sighed as well. "They always have Section Chief Lin on their lips, but when something happened, they kept asking my brother-in-law to fire you all. Even if Section Chief Lin wanted to help, there was nothing he could do."

"Your sister-in-law is quite shrewd, but why isn't your brother quick-witted?" Hao Daguo shook his head dismissively. "With that kind of shout, even if someone is willing to testify, they won't dare to step forward."

Lin Deqiang remained silent.

His fingertips unconsciously traced the lacquered edge of the table, his mind a jumble of thoughts, filled with the words the purchasing manager and the state-run restaurant chef had spoken to him.

Catching snakes, catching small-scaled fish, rabbits, and snails.

The state-run restaurant also sent some of that stuff to the security department; it tasted good and they could make money from it.

But if you say it was his brother-in-law who did it, he would never believe it. He even said he cooked it himself. What a joke!

When she lives at home, she doesn't even wash her socks, and her older sister has to fold her blankets for her...

However, there was indeed only one Zhang Wenshan in Chishongtun.

I was just thinking about it.

With a loud crash, the security office door was kicked open from the outside.

The door slammed against the wall and bounced back, startling the three officers in the room who all looked up abruptly.

Before Lin Deqiang could even see who it was, the other person spoke urgently: "Deputy Section Chief Lin, come with me immediately, something's happened."

The security personnel looked at each other in bewilderment.

"Section Chief Zhou," Lin Deqiang stood up and asked, "What's wrong?"

"Don't ask so many questions, just come with me." Zhou Daguo waved his hand and remained silent.

"Don't forget to patrol." Lin Deqiang immediately tensed up, and started walking outside. "Where to?"

Leaving the security office, Zhou Daguo said with a gloomy face, "In Chishongtun, Kong Qingdong has had your brother-in-law Zhang Wenshan detained..."

"What?"

"They say Kong Qingdong forced your brother-in-law to catch poisonous snakes, and when he got angry, he beat them up..."

Lin Deqiang's mind was buzzing. He knew things had gotten out of hand, and his doubts deepened.

The person Section Chief Zhou was referring to was his own lazy, greedy, and cowardly brother-in-law?

They sped along and soon arrived at the brigade headquarters of Chishongtun.

Looking from afar, the courtyard outside the brigade headquarters was already surrounded by people, three layers deep, with discussions and shouts filling the air.

"Fellow villagers, please make way so we can pass!"

Zhou Daguo was the first to jump out of the car, pushing through the crowd while smiling and calling out to people.

However, they were met with angry stares, their eyes fixed on the uniforms of the agricultural machinery factory they wore.

Zhou Daguo's face stiffened, and he was about to speak when suddenly a cry came from the crowd.

"Master, Master, save me!"

Zhou Daguo hurriedly looked over.

Kong Qingdong was sitting on a bench in the yard, seemingly unharmed. The two people next to him looked dejected, as if they had been beaten.

"No one was killed or injured, that's good."

He breathed a sigh of relief, knowing that Chishongtun was acting with restraint and that things hadn't reached the point of no return.

"Everyone, make way and let the comrades from the agricultural machinery factory in."

As the brigade secretary Zhou Bingren spoke, the crowd parted to make way, and Zhou Daguo took a deep breath and stepped inside.

Normally.

When the purchasing staff from the agricultural machinery factory came, not to mention the whole village lining the streets to welcome them, everyone was very enthusiastic, and food and drinks were immediately provided.

It looks like they're about to devour people.

"Oh, Secretary Zhou, right?"

"My name is Zhou Daguo, and I'm the purchasing manager at the agricultural machinery factory. We're even from the same clan, aren't we?"

"This is Lin Deqiang, the deputy head of our security section, and he is the son-in-law of Chishong Village."

Zhou Daguo didn't even look at his apprentice, but with a smile on his face, he extended his hand to the other person.

"I am Zhou Bingren, the secretary of Chishongtun. I'm so sorry to trouble you, Section Chief Zhou, to make this trip." Zhou Bingren extended his hand and shook hands with the other person briefly.

"Oh dear, you're too kind of me. It's my fault for not disciplining them properly and causing trouble for our village," Zhou Daguo said repeatedly, then tentatively asked, "What do you think about this matter...?"

"I didn't know at first, but by the time I figured out what was going on, I had already made the calls," Zhou Bingren said calmly. "The main problem is that this person claimed to be part of an organization... and if we didn't cooperate, they tried to sabotage the farm machinery..."

After learning what had happened, he immediately understood Zhang Wenshan's meaning.

They took down Kong Qingdong, insisting that he assaulted someone because the other party impersonated an organization, issued construction tasks, and forced him to go on blind dates to catch snakes.

Well known.

The same thing can be described differently, characterized differently, and its severity can vary completely.

"That's not true, absolutely not!"

Zhou Daguo shook his head immediately, his tone resolute.

"Catching snakes was a procurement requirement for our agricultural machinery factory. There was absolutely no forced assignment, nor was it an organized task. It had nothing to do with supporting construction. It was all Kong Qingdong's own decision."

"Master, I didn't..." Kong Qingdong immediately became anxious.

I can't take the blame for this myself. If it's proven true, not only will I lose my job, but I might even end up in jail.

"What do you mean, 'you'?" Zhou Daguo kicked the man hard in the chest, knocking him to the ground. "Shut up."

The crux of the problem had become that the agricultural machinery factory was using the guise of organizing construction support to deceive and coerce the villagers into catching snakes.

Catching snakes can be fatal.

This matter absolutely must not be related to the agricultural machinery factory in the slightest, otherwise we'll all be finished.
