Chapter 49: A chilling ending

In Bai Chen's view, the disaster that the host group encountered was not actually that difficult.

As long as you stay calm and make accurate judgments, even an ordinary person can survive there for a considerable period of time.

However, to his surprise, he had originally estimated that the other party would return within an hour at most, but in the next two hours, it was as if the other party had lost contact and completely lost all communication.

If he hadn't been able to vaguely sense the activity of the [Hand of the Prison], he would have almost thought the other party had failed.

It wasn't until nearly one o'clock in the morning that he finally saw the other person. Having been in that godforsaken place for too long, the other person was now covered in dirt and grime, with marks from being burned by smoke and fire, and his hair was a mess.

Because of his appearance, and the fact that he seemed to be deep in thought and walking rather absentmindedly, many pedestrians avoided him, fearing that they might have encountered some kind of madman who had escaped from a mental hospital.

...Unfortunately, this guy is completely oblivious.

Just as Bai Chen felt a little embarrassed and wanted to sneak away with Yin Hongxiao, Su Qun spotted him at a glance and immediately raised his hand excitedly to greet him.

He had already attracted a lot of attention because of Yin Hongxiao's extraordinary appetite, and now Su Qun had done this to him in public. It just so happened that the night market was crowded during the summer vacation, so the three of them instantly became the focus of attention in the crowd.

Bai Chen: "..."

..........................................

"Why did you change rooms? I thought your previous location was quite good."

Su Qun, who had just washed her hands and face and walked in, tidied her messy hair with her hands and began to complain.

"Actually, there's no need for all this fancy stuff to welcome me. I'm not picky; I can easily find street food..."

"Why are you out so late?"

Bai Chen tapped the table with his finger, interrupting the other person's incessant chatter.

"With the help of the Hand of the Prison, you should be able to easily lure that fusion monster into that elevator and press the button to go to other abnormal floors."

"Uh... I was just thinking of helping you collect more data from over there, wasn't I?"

After sitting down at the table, Su Qun coughed.

"I haven't forgotten what you asked me to do before."

"So you actually used gasoline to burn that thing?"

Bai Chen glanced at the charred marks on the other person's clothes and looked suspicious.

"Of course, with your hand pointing out the directions, getting around to it is a very simple matter."

When talking about this, Su Qun's face lit up with excitement.

"You have no idea, this is the first time I've discovered that arson is such a thrilling thing, it's incredibly addictive."

"I told you to provoke it, not to offend it to death."

Bai Chen rolled his eyes.

"That thing probably can't be burned to death. Who taught you to go and attract aggro like that?"

"It is indeed unkillable, but those it has merged with can be, so I..."

"To be the Virgin Mary?"

He quickly figured out what had happened to the other person, glanced at him, and sneered.

"Although I don't know exactly what that fusion monster you described looks like, judging from its slow movement, it must be extremely bulky. By removing its 'burden,' you not only indirectly increased its speed but also inadvertently offended it. No wonder you came back so late. You're purely lucky to have returned from that godforsaken place."

"We can't just let them live and not kill them... I feel sorry for those people, they've suffered terribly."

Su Qun scratched his head, looking slightly embarrassed.

"They were people who had gone missing there before. Although their bodies were disassembled, fused, and pieced back together, they still retained their consciousness and could clearly feel the pain coming from all parts of their bodies. Since I could help them find relief, I naturally had to lend a hand... Anyway, after that, I did as you said, leading them into the elevator and sending them to the abnormal floor. Then I walked down the corridor and went back..."

"Yeah, yeah, and if you keep helping them, you might end up becoming one of them. Should I congratulate you then?"

"Uh...right, this is something one of them spat out to me before he died. I don't know if it will be of any use to you."

As if remembering something, Su Qun hurriedly pulled a bag from his pocket and handed it over like a treasure.

"Also, I took a part off that amalgam. After the outer flesh and fat were burned away, the thing's main body was a mechanical assembly with fleshy human horns and an electric fan in the head position. I don't know if this thing will be useful to you, so I brought it back as well."

The bag was covered in oil stains, with some yellowish gelatinous solids solidified on it. At first glance, it seemed to be human fat. However, Su Qun didn't mind the dirt and simply poured out the two items inside the bag.

The two items were a slightly worn, aged, pure gray seal and a fist-sized, wedge-shaped mechanical part that gleamed with a cold, eerie light.

Bai Chen's expression changed slightly upon seeing the two items that Su Qun had brought back.

He hadn't expected the other person to bring back just some trinkets, but he never imagined it would be something like this.

...An epic, a legend?

As far as he knows, the number of epic items in the relevant official departments is definitely no more than three, let alone legendary items above that.

Although these two items have completely lost their value and are basically useless, the meaning behind them is truly terrifying upon closer examination.

"How was it? Did it work?"

Having been observing his expression, Su Qun immediately asked him a question as soon as he looked away from the two items.

"What else did you bring back from there?"

Without intending to answer the other party's question, Bai Chen looked at Su Qun in front of him and asked a question in return.

"Judging from your distracted state earlier, you probably brought back more than just these two items from there, right?"

"Uh... fine, I knew I couldn't hide it from you."

After a moment's hesitation, Su Qun sighed and took out two identical ID cards from his pocket, then held up one of them.

"I just grabbed this ID card from that fusion monster."

"This ID card is exactly the same as the one I used to carry with me."
