The Ancestral Legacy Begins in the Wild West
Chapter 20 A Big Order Came Out of the Box
"You...you don't understand at all. This is what I'm supposed to do. I was a factory manager in Germany! I shouldn't be wasting my time next to those machines..."
"ah--"
"Click." Zhang Chang'an casually tossed the file onto the table, calmly increasing the pressure slightly and pinching his arm.
"So you shot and killed someone's nephew, took his personal belongings, and then pretended to be a friend at his funeral to offer yourself up?"
Kevin has gone silent. That's definitely true.
He was a pitiful man who was tricked into coming to a foreign land, but this position he now holds is the one he stole after killing someone.
Furthermore, he is most likely not as capable as he thinks.
As he said before, much of the factory's current business was brought in because he was eager for quick success. However, his judgment and luck were not very good, and many of these deals have become bad debts and liabilities.
Kevin steadied himself and his gaze fell on the documents in front of him. Zhang Chang'an had just fired a shot while holding the documents, so he was inevitably caught in the crossfire.
One of the bullet holes is in the photo on his profile.
Kevin's panting gradually subsided, and this moment seemed even longer and more terrifying than when he first made up his mind to kill and set up the scheme.
Until: "Feed".
Zhang Chang'an interrupted his thoughts, saying, "Don't forget, I'm just here to collect my money."
He silently released his hand from Kevin's head, left the desk, then pulled a thick cloth from his coat, bent down to wrap the Volcano pistol, and put it away.
Kevin slumped limply to the desk, while Zhang Chang'an calmly gathered the documents on the desk, then opened a drawer:
"I'm only responsible for collecting debts. What you did with this gun is none of my business. It's just that since you've already used it, the price after recycling will be greatly reduced. According to the workshop's official calculation, I still have to take 50% of the fee."
As Zhang Chang'an spoke, he pulled out several pounds of banknotes from the drawer and calmly stuffed them into his pocket.
Kevin calmed down after realizing that he might not be reported.
"Bang!" Suddenly, a hand slammed down on the table next to his head.
Zhang Chang'an came to his side again and calmly said, "Don't worry, we have principles and won't use this to blackmail you."
But before I leave, there's one more thing I need to ask you.
Zhang Chang'an pulled a photograph from his pocket: "Have you seen this Italian guy before?"
………………
"Hey, look who's here." Zheng Kui and the others followed the sound of the door opening and looked at Zhang Chang'an, who walked into the third floor of the company.
"How was your first day?" The crowd immediately gathered around.
Perhaps it was because newcomers like him were rare, or perhaps it was because his personality suited everyone's tastes. Zhang Chang'an was quite popular from the start, and he became familiar with many of the older brothers, including Zheng Kui and Dumb Xiong.
Of course, his mission was only just beginning to show promise, so he certainly wouldn't be spending his free time drinking with everyone.
"Clatter!" A wine glass was handed to Zhang Chang'an, who caught it with one hand, while Zheng Kui had already put his arm around his shoulder.
"Alright, alright, go do what you're supposed to do."
Zheng Kui had obviously already had several rounds of drinks with his brothers. He immediately helped him shoo everyone away and then said, "You've done a good job these past two days."
Zhang Chang'an remained noncommittal and calmly walked into the depths of the corridor behind the main hall on this floor: "It's alright, getting the equipment will make things twice as easy."
Zheng Kui calmly glanced at the gun holster under his arm: "A Colt naval revolver? Old Man Li is really something. If he hadn't been there, you probably wouldn't have seen this kind of thing."
Zhang Chang'an understood what he meant.
This gun was still considered an experimental product for that era. It seemed to be the same type of gun as the ones he had used or seen before, but in fact, it was very different.
Specific accuracy is irrelevant; the key point is that prior to this, including the classic M1873, revolvers were all rotary cylinders. The central cylinder couldn't eject the cartridges.
So when loading, those guns have to rotate while inserting the bullets one by one.
The gun he bought later became known as the Colt M1889 Navy Revolver.
As the name suggests, they were primarily issued to the U.S. Navy.
This is a genuine revolver, with a side-swing cylinder that, when used with a specialized magazine loader, offers astonishing loading efficiency. It even features both single and double-action mechanisms, meaning that without specifically pressing the hammer, this gun can fire in bursts.
"Have you used this before?" Zhang Chang'an asked casually.
Zheng Kui calmly shook his head: "I still prefer to rely on my own fists. But the equipment was ultimately brought back by Uncle Li. Besides the one I lent you last time, I have quite a few other things."
This team leader seems to be quite talkative regardless of whether he drinks or not.
"He's willing to make this for you, so you can always ask him for help if you feel your firepower is insufficient. Although I don't use it, I know the power of those spears."
Zhang Chang'an understood this perfectly well. He chose this gun simply for concealment, and secondly, his current orders didn't really require more firepower.
The two hadn't walked more than a few steps down the corridor when they arrived at the office door of the internal accounts department.
Uncle Li is the company's full-fledged account manager, but he still has several deputies.
Zhang Chang'an came over to register yet another of his business transactions.
Zheng Kui glanced at him from the side, then frowned and sighed, "What the hell? With your skills, you're taking on these small jobs? Tomorrow I'll talk to the people in charge of business and get you some bigger projects sooner."
Zhang Chang'an immediately understood. He had had this idea for a long time, but he was just missing someone like Zheng Kui to make the final decision.
It was already the second night of his business, and he had already closed several deals; otherwise, he would have been exhausted.
Of course, even small orders have their advantages of being easy. Little by little, they add up. Not counting the order he had only half-finished earlier, his current sales volume is over sixty pounds.
Even without working himself to the bone, this is already a considerable number.
Moreover, he does have several large orders on hand:
"By the way, I've been asking around these past two days, but I haven't gotten much news." Zhang Chang'an carried the wine bottle back into the corridor.
Upon hearing his words, Zheng Kui calmly waved his hand: "The other Italian guy, this matter is a bit troublesome, but there's no rush. The boss already has ideas about this. Once he takes action, we'll find out soon."
Upon hearing this, Zhang Chang'an's eyes widened slightly.
He was referring to the previous porcelain business, including Kevin from the factory. These past few days, when he was collecting debts, he would almost always ask about the whereabouts of another Italian.
It seems that Boss Chen has already negotiated with the Jean-Glaucon family, and he hasn't left London yet.
To achieve the sales target of 2000 pounds, one part is to systematically obtain the authority to take on large orders, and another part is to seize every opportunity to secure such orders.
"Take it slow. We'll get high-powered guns, and we'll get big orders too."
Having adapted to the work of a debt collector for a day or two, Zhang Chang'an walked towards the lobby on the third floor while pondering the situation.
Then a brother ran up from the second floor: "Brother Kui, a big order has come in!"
