Chapter 21, First Shot
The group arrived inside a rectangular factory building.
This place was originally an assembly line, but it has now been transformed into an indoor shooting range by the Iron Claw Gang.
Rosen stood in his designated firing position, with a yellow warning line at his feet.
Behind him, dozens of Iron Claw gang members formed a semicircle, watching Rosen.
Morris walked to Rosen's side and pointed into the distance, saying:
"This first challenge tests your marksmanship and reaction time. Do you see that red machine 50 meters away?"
Rosen followed the line of sight and saw a modified pitching machine there.
"The rules are simple: once the machine is started, it will spew out plastic balls at irregular intervals."
What you have to do is destroy it before it hits the ground. According to the old rules, you need to hit it at least eight times out of ten to pass the test.
Morris said in a deep voice, then paused and added, "Considering this is your first time using this machine, we can let you fire ten shots first to get a feel for it. After the test shots, we'll officially begin."
"A test of marksmanship?"
Rosen inspected the gun in his hand, nodded, and said, "Okay, let's begin."
Soon, the unrelated personnel retreated to the safety line.
Morris waved his hand, and the indicator lights on the distant machine lit up, beginning to emit the sound of mechanical charging.
Everyone held their breath, waiting for Rosen's performance.
Rosen held the gun in one hand, his eyes fixed on the firing port.
The machine didn't spray immediately; instead, it idled for a few seconds. Suddenly, with a "poof," a white plastic ball was launched, tracing an arc through the air at a fairly high speed.
However, Rosen made no move.
He remained in that standing position, letting it fly past its highest point and then fall to the ground.
A commotion arose in the crowd.
"What's going on? Didn't you realize what was happening?"
"This is way too slow..."
Upon seeing this, a hint of disappointment flashed in Morris's eyes.
I initially thought this kid was a hidden master because of his impressive aura, but I didn't expect him to miss the first ball.
There was no reaction at all, not even to fire a gun. Was he scared?
However, before this feeling of disappointment could spread in everyone's hearts, the second ball was already ejected!
In that instant, Rosen moved.
boom!
The plastic ball, which had just flown less than two meters from the muzzle of the gun, exploded in mid-air.
This shot made the whispering crowd gasp for breath.
But this was just the beginning. Soon after, they witnessed a shooting spectacle that could be described as an art form.
boom!boom!boom!boom!
Each ball is blown apart in mid-air by a bullet the moment it leaves the machine's launch port, at its fastest speed and most difficult to detect!
As the last shot rang out, Rosen lowered the muzzle of his gun and gently blew away the smoke from the barrel.
The entire firing range was completely silent, except for one person who swallowed hard, the sound of which was unusually clear.
Everyone looked at Rosen as if he were a god of war.
Except for the first shot, which missed because Rosen didn't fire, the remaining nine shots were all blown up the moment they left the barrel!
"Warm-up complete."
Rosen smiled and looked at the stunned Morris, his tone relaxed: "We can begin the formal exam now."
Morris snapped out of his daze, gave Rosen a complicated look, and said with a wry smile, "Actually... you don't need to take the test anymore. You've already passed the test with that level of precision."
He's not stupid. Rosen didn't hit the first ball just now because he was observing the trajectory and initial velocity.
The quality of those nine shots was so high that even a fool could see it far exceeded the standard of "eight out of ten".
However, Rosen's smile turned arrogant, and he shook his head:
"No, Morris, 'passing the level' has never been my goal. Since I'm here to take this position, I'm going to take it in a way that leaves no room for complaint."
He pointed to the machine in the distance: "That plastic ball should be able to go even faster, right?"
Morris paused for a moment, then nodded: "That was the advanced difficulty. There is indeed a hellish difficulty as well."
Rosen's lips curled into a smile as he uttered two words: "Then adjust it to Hell difficulty."
"Wow—"
The Iron Claw Gang members couldn't help but gasp in amazement.
If Rosen had dared to make such a request before, everyone would have thought he was putting on airs and would have been somewhat sarcastic.
But after witnessing the incredible nine-shot technique, everyone's mindset completely changed.
Surprise, excitement, and anticipation!
They are a group of gang members who glorify violence. Who wouldn't want their boss to be an absurdly powerful monster?
"Think it over," Morris warned seriously. "The speed on Hell difficulty is twice that of Advanced difficulty, and the spray intervals are completely random, making it difficult even for the best shooters to catch."
"It's alright, I have great confidence in my abilities." Rosen laughed arrogantly as if this was nothing at all.
"Since you're so confident..."
Just then, Caesar, who had been silent all along, suddenly stood up.
He strode up to Rosen and said provocatively:
"How about you just use Hell difficulty as the official test? I won't bully you, I'll lower the requirements a bit, seven out of ten shots will do."
Wang Ling's expression changed abruptly. He looked at Caesar and hissed in a low voice:
"Caesar! What are you doing? Rosen has already proven his strength; this hell difficulty level is just for entertainment..."
"No, this isn't entertainment, it's a challenge."
Caesar ignored the king's order and stared intently at Rosen.
In Hell Mode, hitting 7 out of 10 shots is his limit. You want to be the boss? Fine, then you have to do what I can't!
"good!"
Rosen readily agreed, meeting Caesar's gaze without flinching.
This head-on confrontation ignited the passion of the Iron Claw Gang members around them. This was the kind of atmosphere the Iron Claw Gang should have!
"The machine is now set up!"
The young man operating the machine, standing 50 meters away, shouted in their direction, breaking the standoff.
"Are you ready?" Morris asked Rosen, his palms slightly sweaty.
"That's fine."
Rosen turned around and faced the firing range again.
"Okay, let's begin!" Morris took a deep breath and shouted.
Boom boom boom—!
The machine emitted a dull roar, much louder than the last time.
Everyone held their breath, their eyes fixed on the exit.
puff!
A very short, sharp whooshing sound rang out.
A white shadow was shot out at high speed, so fast that it was impossible to see clearly for a distance in front of it!
too fast!
This thought has just crossed the minds of many people.
boom!
A gunshot rang out.
The white afterimage that had just flown out suddenly exploded in mid-air, turning into countless fragments scattered all over the ground.
First shot, hit!
