Chapter 19 Be Best Friends for Life
One of the most amazing things about high schools in Los Angeles is that after the long weekend, the short weekend only lasts for 3 hours.
Similarly, during the week of Da Zhou, students only have Friday afternoon and Saturday off; they still have to go to school on Sunday.
So while it may seem like the exam isn't until next week, Gu Yun's translation is actually "the exam is in three days."
This immediately made Gu Yun a little nervous, and he typed:
【The Marks of the Setting Sun: When?】
[Banxia: It's Thursday, why are you asking again?]
[The Marks of the Setting Sun: Can I Not Participate?]
Upon hearing this, the other party seemed to fall silent for a moment, and the chat box above remained in the "typing" state.
A short while later, the phone rang.
Gu Yun answered the call, and Xia Qige's anxious voice came through: "Why don't you want to take the exam?"
"Are you worried about not doing well on this exam? Don't worry, Dad won't laugh at you."
Xia Qige felt that Gu Yun was probably worried that even if she studied so hard, she still wouldn't be able to improve her grades.
Some people do study hard, but for various reasons their grades are not ideal, and they are even ridiculed for not studying properly. Such words are enough to make a person emotionally broken.
Xia Qige felt that Gu Yun was worried about this. As his good brother, although she was a bit sharp-tongued, she was still kind-hearted.
So she reassured her, "It's really nothing."
"..."
Gu Yun also found it a little difficult to explain to her.
You can't exactly say you can't take the exam because you might be involved in a crackdown on organized crime, can you? If you did, the other person would probably recommend you go to a mental hospital to get your head checked out.
So he grinned and retorted sarcastically, "It's nothing, I was just kidding."
"You believe everything."
"Gu Yun!"
Xia Qige gripped her phone frantically, staring at Gu Yun's face as if she wanted to tear him to pieces.
That's infuriating!
You clearly meant well and cared about the other person, but all your efforts were negated by a simple "Just kidding."
I'm never going to talk to him again!
Yes, we can't talk to him tonight, at least.
The longest time Xia Qige and Gu Yun had ever broken off their friendship was twelve hours, because Gu Yun couldn't stay awake and fell asleep while they were chatting, and she held a grudge against him for the whole morning.
At other times, they mostly just talk and rarely say anything harsh.
After all, friendship is similar to dating, so never say "break up" lightly.
Even if you're joking, others might not necessarily see it that way.
She hung up the phone and lay in bed still fuming.
Luckily, no one was home, otherwise the arguing would have attracted my mom sooner or later.
The other party never thought much of a poor kid like Gu Yun...
They even talked about being a good match, saying the other person wasn't good enough for them.
She explained no less than eight hundred times that she and Gu Yun were just good friends, how could good friends possibly be considered a good match?
She was somewhat annoyed, but also somewhat helpless.
"Really..."
"That's clearly not true at all..."
"He and I... will just be best friends for life... right?"
....................................
The next day, Monday.
The morning was mostly uneventful, except for watching Su Nianshan recite official jargon like "seize the day" from her prepared speech again during the flag-raising ceremony, and being chased and beaten by Xia Qige for a while.
During class, Gu Yun exchanged a glance with Chen Zhizhi and smiled at her to show his friendliness.
The other person quickly turned their face away, seemingly having a problem with him.
. . .
Forget it, I won't argue with a woman.
Gu Yun pursed his lips and focused on the lesson.
During this time, for the first time, he didn't focus all his energy on math, but instead listened to the questions the teachers were discussing.
The physics and chemistry teachers both gave him a deep look, clearly having some recollection of the student who had been doing math problems in every class last week.
Seeing that he was listening attentively to his lesson, I couldn't help but teach even more enthusiastically.
at last.
Has my course finally been recognized by him?
If Gu Yun knew their true feelings, all he would say is...
Oh no, I was just bored.
He listened to the science courses with great interest. To him now, it was like a sudden enlightenment. He didn't understand the science knowledge in high school, but he could fully comprehend it and tried to integrate it.
Whether or not I can do the questions now depends entirely on my state of mind that day.
Just like the sword cultivators in novels, when you ask them if they won or lost, they say they understand and get it.
When asked what level they had reached, they said they should go home.
Gu Yundu would run away on the spot if he encountered someone like that; he was so scared that he cried.
It wasn't until the end of the first evening self-study session that Gu Yun put the test paper aside, stretched, and looked around.
Although everyone was studying quietly, they obviously couldn't keep up with his pace.
I completed a college entrance examination math paper in an hour and a half, and filled it with writing.
I guess I've won this round.
Gu Yun was smug for a while, then patted Xia Qige's thigh next to him.
"what?"
Xia Qige glared at him back. Gu Yun had lunch with him at noon, which had calmed him down, but this slap had interrupted her train of thought. If he didn't give her an explanation, she would never let him off the hook!
"Excuse me, I need to go outside to ask a question."
Gu Yun had to say this in a low voice.
It doesn't matter if Xia Qige and his classmates complain loudly; they are all reasonable people and no one cares about his little thing.
But going out to ask the teacher questions is a different story; that's a real "academic slacker" move.
It's impossible for him to get a scolding if he's caught, but he'll definitely be "Aruba," and then his younger brother will be in danger.
Xia Qige was clearly aware of the seriousness of the matter.
So she chuckled softly, then shouted loudly:
"Gu Yun is going to ask the teacher a question!"
"Fuck your mother!"
Before he finished speaking, the entire classroom fell silent for a moment, then erupted into a cacophony of noise.
"What? Gu Yun wants a problem?"
"Good grief, you've been secretly learning it, haven't you!"
"Grab him! Don't let him get away!"
Several boys immediately dropped their pens, grinning maliciously as they sprang up from their seats.
Gu Yun felt a chill run down his spine, and a vulgar curse slipped out of his mouth. His body moved faster than his brain, and he squeezed past Xia Qige from behind.
Xia Qige was knocked to the side by his bump, but she laughed so hard her shoulders shook, adding fuel to the fire: "Quick! He ran towards the back door!"
Gu Yun fled, leaving behind the clattering of tables and chairs and excited shouts.
He moved like a slippery fish, dodging left and right in the narrow aisle, narrowly avoiding a grabbing hand, but his backpack strap was tugged.
He simply hugged his schoolbag to his chest and rushed out the back door with his head down.
The corridor was brightly lit and deserted. He dared not stop, listening to the footsteps and laughter chasing after him, and headed straight for the stairwell.
Going downstairs was too slow, so he gritted his teeth, turned around, and ran towards the teachers' office.
Sure enough, as they chased him to the vicinity of the office, the momentum behind them weakened, leaving only a few reluctant "shh"s and "you just wait."
Gu Yun, panting heavily, stopped at the corner of the corridor outside the office, leaning against the cold wall, his heart pounding.
Summer Prayer Song.
Relying on a young woman.
