Era: A college student came to the courtyard house
Chapter 3: Deliberate Targeting
The administration building has five floors.
The first floor houses departments that frequently interact with employees, such as the labor union, women's federation, petition office, and youth league committee. The second and third floors contain administrative offices for technology, production, factory affairs, and logistics. The fourth and fifth floors house departments under the factory's Party committee, such as the factory office, personnel, publicity, and supervision.
The office of the first secretary, Su Haixiong, is on the far east side of the fifth floor, while that of the factory director, Yang Songlin, is on the far west side. There is a conference room in between, clearly separating the two offices.
Since it was still early and Fang Yuan was the only person in the office, he first went to the water room to get a kettle of hot water, and then made himself a cup of hot tea.
The tea was bought by myself; it was just ordinary jasmine tea. It smelled quite fragrant, but the taste wasn't particularly good. It was only good enough to mask the slightly bitter taste of the water in Beijing.
Sitting at his desk, Fang Yuan took out a document from the drawer and slowly began to read it.
On the surface, he appears to be looking at documents, but in reality, he is summarizing the original owner's previous actions.
The original owner got into the Hongxing Steel Plant through his brother-in-law's connections with Lin Xianghua, the third secretary who had just been transferred there half a month earlier.
Generally speaking, from the moment he stepped into Red Star, he was passively marked by Lin Xianghua. After arriving, even if he didn't exchange gifts or make connections, it was still necessary to at least report his thoughts and feelings.
The original owner had been here for three days, but hadn't taken the initiative to visit anyone. No wonder he was a bookworm and a simpleton.
Fortunately, it's not too late; we've only been here for three days, so there's still a chance to make amends.
A short while later, another person entered the office.
Li Zhe, 25 years old, graduated from high school and has been working at Hongxing Steel Plant for five years. He previously worked in the publicity department of the coking plant and was transferred to the plant office at the beginning of this year. He is now the head of the second comprehensive section of the plant office.
The two had just greeted each other when Li Zhe said, "Fang Yuan, you're here so early, why didn't you tidy up a bit?"
"I just arrived too," Fang Yuan said frankly, "I was afraid of messing up everyone's things."
Li Zhe, however, adopted a condescending attitude and acted like a senior: "Young people should be more diligent and do more work in order to have a chance to advance."
Fang Yuan didn't even bother to look at the "pie in the sky" that was casually thrown at him, and immediately replied, "Brother Li, I just arrived. If anyone's going to improve, it'll be you who improves first."
Fang Yuan inwardly scoffed at this childish obedience test, thinking that Li Zhe was trying to label him as "diligent."
While newcomers may integrate into the group more quickly in the short term by adopting a "diligent and helpful" label, in the long run, it often does more harm than good.
Not only will you be unable to refuse various forms of help in the future, but you will also be very likely to fall into traps unintentionally. In fact, if you really have something to do in the future and can't help others, you will be blamed for "changing" or "not being like before".
Just as Li Zhe was about to continue arguing with Fang Yuan, Li Jianye, the deputy director of the factory office, walked in from outside.
Fang Yuan stood up and greeted him, but Li Zhe swiftly moved to Li Jianye's side, took the briefcase from Li Jianye's hand very naturally, and then followed him to his office.
As more and more people entered the office, Fang Yuan forgot about what had just happened with Li Zhe and continued to study the office regulations and rules.
It was almost noon when Fang Yuan was just getting ready to pack up and go eat.
"Fang Yuan, wait a minute."
Li Zhe suddenly walked in from outside the office and called out to him.
Fang Yuan, puzzled, asked, "Is something wrong?"
Li Zhe, with an expression of taking it for granted, instructed: "Please convey the spirit of the meeting this morning to the leaders in charge of the branch factory. Here are the meeting minutes. Explain the situation to them clearly, and let me know after you've finished contacting them."
Seeing Li Zhe hand over the meeting minutes, Fang Yuan didn't reach out to take it. Instead, he pointed to himself and asked疑惑地问道, "You want me to relay this?"
Li Zhe slammed his notebook on the table without ceremony and said definitively, "Yeah, you know everyone in our office is busy, and you're the only one free right now."
The reason Fang Yuan didn't cooperate immediately was that although he hadn't spoken much these past few days, it didn't mean he was unaware of the situation within the department.
Li Zhe doesn't do his job properly; he often goes to other offices to get acquainted with people, especially the propaganda department where there are the most female colleagues.
He usually takes Li Jianye for granted, and doesn't respect anyone else, not even the section chief. Only a few deputy directors and directors in the entire factory office can command him.
Now they've actually set their sights on Fang Yuan.
In terms of rank, Li Zhe doesn't hold any official position, so why should he listen to him?
Could it be that he's envious of me because I'm more handsome than him?
Or perhaps I offended him by not listening to him clean this morning?
At this moment, everyone else in the office had put down their work and were preparing to go to lunch, but after this incident, they all pretended to be very busy, while their eyes were intentionally or unintentionally observing the two of them.
They also wanted to take this opportunity to see what kind of person Fang Yuan really was.
If Fang Yuan takes on this job without complaint, he will be faced with countless other odd jobs.
Having been in the workplace for so many years, Fang Yuan knew exactly what was going on, and naturally wouldn't tolerate Li Zhe's bad behavior.
"Let's forget about it. I didn't attend the meeting, and I'm afraid I won't be able to explain things clearly. If something isn't explained, and the branch factory leaders make mistakes in implementation, that would be a huge mistake."
Li Zhe, who was about to turn and leave, froze upon hearing this, saying, "What's so hard to explain? Surely you're a college student, can't you even understand a few words?"
This deliberate targeting left Fang Yuan somewhat unsure of what to do.
Was Li Zhe's action truly his own intention, or was it due to some leader having a negative opinion of him?
He knew that such important positions in the factory office were highly sought after, and his sudden arrival would inevitably affect the interests of some people.
"Director Wang's task for me is to familiarize myself with the office regulations and rules as soon as possible. I haven't finished reading them yet. If you really want me to pass them on for you, please write a list to clarify responsibilities. I'm only responsible for relaying them." Fang Yuan thought for a moment and then added, "If you don't write it up, I can also ask the director for instructions."
Li Zhe never expected that Fang Yuan, who hadn't uttered a single word the past two days, would be so eloquent today, which completely stumped him.
This was certainly not a task assigned to Fang Yuan by his superiors; he simply wanted to get away as soon as possible and go out to have lunch with Xiao Li from the propaganda department.
Knowing he was in the wrong, Li Zhe naturally couldn't let Fang Yuan report the matter to the higher-ups.
"You don't know yet, do you? Director Wang went to Ansteel with Secretary Su a couple of days ago," Li Zhe explained, but not wanting to lose face, he immediately pretended to be righteous and said, "College students are so great, they can't even handle such a small matter. It seems I need to report this to the leaders."
Then, he whispered menacingly in Fang Yuan's ear, "Don't think you're the only one with connections."
It stinks.
Fang Yuan waved helplessly, dispelling the air polluted by Li Zhe's bad breath.
This kid is young, but he's got quite the big mouth.
After Li Zhe left, Fang Yuan looked around at his colleagues in the office. Many of them smiled at him. Among them, Qian Jianing, who was two years older than him but already at the deputy section chief level, secretly gave him a thumbs up.
Fang Yuan smiled slightly at Qian Jianing, it seemed that Li Zhe was indeed not very popular.
However, thinking about the people in the office, Fang Yuan couldn't help but sigh.
The factory office truly lives up to its reputation as the central hub of Hongxing Steel Plant. My colleagues, all so young, are either section chiefs or deputy section chiefs; it's quite a place where hidden talents reside.
You have to understand how many people work hard their whole lives and only manage to get a deputy section chief's salary by retirement.
From this perspective, his status as a college student doesn't seem so special.
